Michdj
So apparently Nature's Garden reformulated their Pink Sugar FO and I used it last week for CP soap. It turned my soap YELLOW. When I called about it, they were pretty unconcerned. I'm looking for a new Pink Sugar to try. Does anyone have a favorite? I'm desperate! Moonstar
I love the one from Indianna Candle Supply but Ive never used it in soap, only wax melts + rollin perfume.
8-GRAN-ONES
Does it not normally discolor? I have not ever had a pink sugar that did not discolor. I also use Indiana Candle supply, pink sugar, but it does turn a dark chocolate brown..in cp soap.. it is also wonderful in 415 soy wax...it has an incredible HT.. bfroberts
It has always discolored for me.

Many do look electric yellow at first, then they darken to brown as they oxidize.

I've never seen it go electric yellow, but it does get very dark pretty quickly.
Scented
Usually the yellow is the first sign of imminent brown. I know Peak's version goes from yellow to brown.
Michdj
I've had it turn a shade of kind of dark cream for a vanillin reaction, but this was yellow like in the rainbow. I even used full-strength vanilla stabilizer. When I used the pre-reformulation FO from NG along with vanilla stabilizer from WSP, I had pink and white soap. It's *still* pink and white, even 6 months later. But this was 30 minutes after I made it - YELLOW. It's so disappointing. So no one has a Pink Sugar they like? Shari
I use Peak's and it starts out yellow and goes dark brown.
Gsmakinsoap
You should try soapsupplies.net pink sugar. Some say it discolors little (see posts below). http://www.craftserver.com/topic/101851-some-recent-soaps-i-made/#comment-960768 http://www.craftserver.com/topic/87114-pink-sugar-omh-soap-bars/#comment-816475 I also checked the soapscentreview board and pasted their reviews of the soapsupplies.net pink sugar--not quite as favorable color wise. Pink Sugar by lilysmom » Wed Oct 12, 2011 9:49 am RTCP, all veg. oils, 33% lye sol., 1 oz. ppo. Very nice Pink Sugar. No A at all. Scent is comparable to other PS's I like, without the D to dark brown. I use some milk for my liquids, so I got D to medium tan which I expected. Very nice. Update Mar. 2012 - this did end up a med. brown. Still a nice scent holding well months later. It will discolor but not as bad as others will. I use TD in mine and swirl with pink (I like her flamingo) and it turns out very nice. Also, no acceration. Very well-behaved at 33% lye solution, no acceleration whatsoever. D to medium tan. It's not as nice as the one from TSW, but it's still quite good, I might reorder. And next time I'll use 1 oz ppo for a stronger scent. peremenka CP Soaper 33% Solution Posts: 78 Joined: Sat Jun 19, 2010 5:18 pm
Shari
I've tried the Soap Supplies PS and don't care for it. My favorite is Peak. I've tried others too but that remains my favorite. I work with discoloring FO's when they go brown and don't mind it. I don't use VS.
TallTayl
What I found is the older my FO gets, the yellower it goes in the pot. My my favorite was from the now closed Scent Works. It is the one I have had duped into my own and co-op a couple of times a year.

nursenancy
I've had it go neon yellow with stabilizer if it gets too hot. plus I've found that you can't mix the stabilizer and FO too early. Now I wait until just a couple of minutes before I add it to the soap. I should add, I only do PS hot process but I've done LOTS of batches
