  1. I usually dont like falling stuff as it is distracting but one way to appease most visitors and your kids would be to load that script right after the <BODY> tag so it will be behind the tables that include your text and not in front. If your tables have a wide enoough area or your page has margins try to make the table bg color white and you will see them around the edges of the page.
  2. I like it but I would make the modifications suggested and add the scent name and/or products name to the front.
  3. I wasnt insulted I was serious. Sometimes it is very hard to try and put some of the technology in normal terms.
  4. If you make your orderform in word or a grapichs program or whatever just send it to me and I will make the pdf and setup the link for you
  5. First and formost save the normal images as gif files and save the high quality larger ones as jpg files. bmp files take alot longet to load and are kinda old technology.Search engines do read your alt tags but keep a few things in mind windows users also view alt tags. If you put your mouse over the image the alt tag shows. try to use some of your keywords in the alt tags themselves but not just keywords that dont make sense, meaninful descriptions or short sentences. Using to many keywords not only wont get read on some search engines it will get you dropped. Also do not make your page all images or 1 large image. You can also get very creative with css. not sure how familar you are with it but you can do alot of seo with css tags.
  6. it is up now. When choosing a web host you should make sure they have multiple carriers with redundant lines. I know it is probably greek to most but it is important. As someone mentioned the level3/cogent. Level3 owns the lines and shares with cogent with level3 being the premium bandwith provider and cogent being the economy. But this is not redundant as they are both on the same network. So a host that has level3 / verio is a multiple carrier so if level 3 goes down or even get congested the network itself will switch to verio if it is faster. I have had customers come from freewebs but I will tell you when I started out and went to school for this that is what we used because for inexpensive type hosting hey are one of the best. Mny businesses start out using them and then as the online part of the business grows they move on to a more robust host with more features and such. I hope I didnt confuse you to much.
  7. I hope you werent offended buy my post. I did not mean to bash your site in the least and I did actually mean I would help you our if you needed it. I am very new to candle making to (I am in the giving away stage) to close friends and family who do have nice things to say about them. I learn alot from the people here and reading some of your later posts in this thread I think you thought or wanted to hear only praise for your site. If thats the case then you dont want a critique you want compliments. All the points I made are valid and can be fixed up in a jiffy. I often tell my customers that as much as businesses are assumed to have a website, I mean we are in the technology era and domain names are cheap so I think people now more then ever take advantage of the net to research stuff and if they can find you they wonder why. However a disfunctional website is positivly worse than no website at all. You will rarely meet someone who wont buy your product because you dont have a website. You will meet people however that went to your site and decided not to give you their money and go elsewhere for different reasons. I meant what I said about the email thing to email is not secure (thats a scientific fact) So if you had a customer order from your website and then they got their credit card statement and found out it was maxed out on other stuff they didnt buy. I bet they wont be buying from you anymore. A good rule of thumb for online business is to either use virtual terminals or if you must run the cc manually it should be held in multiple databases which are md5 encrypted. Anyone who could break that code wouldnt be hacking your website as that is how your bank stores your account info on their website. As for the other comments I made I didnt mean to offend. I meant to give you "Professional Criticism" which is what I thought you were asking for. I am new to candles but not to websites or marketing which is what I tried to stick with. OK Im done. Again I wish everyone luck with their business especially online, and if you decide you need some help with it or some ponters please feel free to pm me. PS. This website is the brittanica of candle and bath or sure. So much knowledge in such a small place. One more tihng alot can be learned from this website itself. For instance it is owned buy peak candle supply, not only do they have an awesome site but they let you talk about their competitors, link to their products, even buy from them. They offer their competitors to join and advertise their own products and services here on their site. Hows that for marketing, see they are sure of their products so no need to compare. Now ask how many people out of the 1500+ members respect them for that type of marketing. You can come to this website anytime anyday and you wont be alone. That is successful marketing.
  8. OK I dont want to hijack the thread but I have to ask. Is that you in the header?
  9. try to do a search but search for potpouri (or however you spell it) burner. Usually a search for tart warmer brings the electric ones.
  10. If you have a website I would put that across the bottom small but legible as not to take away from the lable then all the contact info on the back. This way if you sell from a website they can look at the candle on their desk and order more when it is running low. LOL
  11. Ok I will make a couple of points. I am a member of the "Website Community". I think you should resize the swf file to a width of 776. Even though 98% of internet users have a screen resolutions of 800x600 most browsers eat up some real estate so anything over 776 usually produces a side scroll which is not professional looking. On another not if you want your order system (which I kinda like) to be like that make a little more action go on as they select stuff so they know things are happening. either a sound or a flash or something to let them know what is going on. It is all happening "Below the fold" and very small. The other thing is email is not secure. So if you cannot produce a flash shopping cart that is secure you should just do away with the flash system and maybe have a nice flash header or intro. The other point is it is all flash, you will turn alot of people off without a dialup version. A good way to do it is to do a browser check and see if the flash plugin is active. If it is active give them flash if it isnt give them a static site. You will also never be found on search engines unless it is dynamic flash,(ie. reading all the content from html files) which I dont think it is or you would have an html version too. I also dont think you should put down another product or feel you need to compare like that. The comparisons you sight as checkboxes are sticky points and are all documented. In the real world you will get sued big time for degrading other businesses. Especially big ones that actually have a legal dept. All they need to do is drag a high priced mouth piece into court and say you cost them business by saying they claim they are something they arent. And if you cant prove it you will be making alot of awesome candles to pay for the lawsuit. Now I am in business to and I can tell you that I would never bash your website to sell one of mine. I can sell my services on my product and only the quality of my product. I have done work for pixar and disney, etc. I am new to candlemaking too but in time your product will sell itself. There is alot of knowledge here, and very nice people willing to share it. Now If you decide you need some help tuning up youor site give me a shout. I will give you a hand. Please dont think I am bashing you. Doug
  12. THank you. I was just wondering if there was a different type of warning label that I should put on it warning that the outside of the container is extremely hot or something. I was also wondering what everyone used. I like the look of the tins but wanted to know the pros and cons of the tins as to the glass as I am sure different people prefer both. Thanks Again
  13. That is cool, is that ribbon wax also? Beeswax or something?
  14. Thank you for responding. For those of you who use glass lets say the stubby round jars (apocathy maybe) do they get host as well? Do you label the tins to warn that they get hot. I know it is probably common sense but ummm.... what if everyone doesnt have common sense.
  15. I want to start making the wickless candles and I like the idea of the tins. I think they are clean looking. I have some questions though, Do the tins get hot? I mean if someone were to say the the candle up off the warmer after it has been on there would they get burned? Are the low profile or deep tins better? Are the jars better? Which jars? Basically what do you guys use if you dont mind me asking and what sizes do you do as well. Thanks for all of you that I hope will give me your expert opinion. One more thing if you know soemwhere to get what you use at a good price I would appreciate it. Doug
  16. It has a 4 out of 5 rating now. And also a very nice user comment from a doctor. Congratulations. I better go buy some now before oprah does and I cant afford it LOL again congrats and dont forget about us when your in macys.
  17. I would think that the supplier will take off one charge. What probably happened is they put a hold on it when you ordered and then instead of just accepting the hold they billed again then proably accepted the hold. Hence the couple day difference. Then I would think once your credit card co. provides you with the level of service you deserve they would reverse the otl fee because of an obvious oversite that was beyond your control. If not I would ask them where they would like you to mail the card. LOL
  18. Nero smartsart is for burning cds. I am not sure about the other one. do you have paintshop pro or anything like that for a graphics program? If not pm me and I can help you out if you need me to do it for you.
  19. I would be carful how you word it. If you say materials being purchased they probablt have a case against getting "the materials" that they paid for. Even know we know it would be used to purchase materials I wouldnt word it like that.
  20. I love HP. for the smaller label sheets like the badge labels etc I use the photo slot as to not get a jam
