  1. Although dreamweaver is my program of choice for web design I personally would not recomend it for someone who has no experince. There are much simplier and cheaper programs like coffecup and stuff like that. To lay out 400 dollars on dreamweaver and have no idea about what it does does not seem like a good idea. I started with coffee cup and went to frontpage and then dreamweaver. I now use photoshop for the design and dreamweaver and notepad for coding.
  2. I think perlgoodies is right. As long as you are just doing a simple site godaddy will serve the purpose. I have been a godaddy reseller for years now and have watched them grow tremendously due to their customer service as well as pricing structure. However, if you want a bunch of extras that would require updates or addons to the server yourself they will not allow it. Nowadays though most php scripts dont require to many additional modules.
  3. Maybe let them do what you have listed so you can keep a stock and then have a link for custom candles that they can choose the scent and the color of their choice. Let them know custom candles take a little longer. HTH
  4. But with your great products think how well you will do.
  5. I did not mean to discourage you from creating your own script. I do however find it very strange that you would develop a custom secure shopping cart for each customer unless they were paying you big dollars to do so. I have a custom cart which my wifes site runs that has costed me well over five or six thousand dolloars to develop myself and with other programmers. I dont see how you could do that for a "free" cart. I also think if you are a reputable companiy maybe you shouldnt be using a "Free" cart with advertisments for a business unless you are making candles with "free wax and jars and lables" whats the difference right you need to invest in any business to make it a business INHO. As for your perl comments I like use and prgram perl myslef, ebay does not use perl anymore just because you see cgi.ebay doesnt mean it perl, perl is not the same a php as perl is way more of a resource hog and alot less secure then php. Perl in not php's older brother but php is perls replacement and any programmer will tell you. I say go ahead make your own cart and I wish you the best of luck with it but I agree with others as far as why make something tht can be purchased and customized in days. As far as their security? For the carts I mentioned why dont you go to their websites and ask their thousands and thousands of customers how secure they are. One last thing before this turns into a peeing contest, i'll show you my masters in computer science if you show me yours.
  6. This seems to be getting a little out of control. In prairieannies defense her points were valid. I mean if your boyfriend owns a script site why posrt a thread like that if he is already programming you a script? What are people supposed to think? For those who may feel she was mailicious since her hubby does cart design I say poppycock to you. Prairieannie was here long before I was and I hit this board hard when I started coming and never once has she done or said anything malicious like I was cutting into her work, as a matter of fact quite the contrary, there is room for whover here to make a dollar or to and helo out other members but I too dont see the point in reinventing the wheel and trying to sell a new script without thoroughly testing it forst. I also thing creating a perl shopping cart is like beating a dead horse in pmy opinion. 9 out of 10 real businesses use either asp or php. If you host unix use either xcart or sunshop and if you host windows use vipasp. One last note, in all the carts I just mentioned it is not against the license agreement to modify the templates to fit your website, as far as security nobody here has anywhere near the time or money to test a new cart like the ones mentioned have been tested. I have my own version of a shopping cart that I have developed over years with others and I can tell you for the money you cant beat xcart. Yeah its a little complicated but for a few hundred bucks you haire a real programmer to make it do what you want, and quite frankly if you arent willing to part with a couple of hundred dollars for a professional to build you a secure shopping cart your busness really shouldnt be doing business online yet. I just want to clear the are about the bashing of other respected members and I assure you I did not just create this account to say this.
  7. A good cart will allow you to incorporate it into your existing site and calculate shipping. without the whole site being a cart.
  8. I can tell you in photoshop and you can get the free trial. But I am not familiar with the other programs. If you decide to go that route let me know I will explain it.
  9. If your usinfg a florecent light you will need to difuse it. Try putting a light material in front of it (not on it it will start a fire) or go to home depot and go to the lighting section and buy a frosted panel like in office buildings. This will make the light more natural. Another thing you want to do is shoot the pic in high resolution and then scale down for the website this will keep your labels clear.
  10. I think jason works monday to friday and you will probably not hear from him until monday when he goes to work. I thik he told me he was director of sales or marketing or something so he may be a nine to fiver.
  11. I may not be the most business savvy here but I knowworking with family stinks. It sounds to me that MIL and you were a team when your business began growing and now she feels abandoned. The solution might be to get some extra fill in help for MIL and bring her in the back with you for a few days to "Train" her on that aspect of the business. If she is older she will hate it. More importantly it will let her walk a mile in your shoes and show her you are not behind a closed door sleeping but actually working in your office as she is working in the kitchen. I remember when I was small my father had a partner in the building industry, the partner did your job and my father ran the jobs. We all used to say you give him half the money and you do all the work. However my father never felt that way, little did we know then that the partner dealt with customers, suppliers, lawyers, accountants, city hall, insurance co, bidding jobs etc. And our phone never rang all night his did etc. Now that we are older we understand that. I would let her see that even though your business grew you didnt outgrow working and leave her behind.
  12. I think he is using a branch of oscommerce not php nuke maybe im wrong
  13. Sounds to e like you better start making more product. A big show with only stinky soap as your competition could be a gold mine. Good Luck maybe you will sellout.
  14. Carmen set that main table size which is now 1000 to 778 or 100% to try to prevent the scrol. The other option would be to put a resolultion detection script in to detect the screen resolution and redirect to a page for that. Nomatter the monitor size if it is set to 800x600 (which 80% of internet users is) they will get a side scoll. Looks good though Doug
  15. If you go with the turtle hosting I wouldnt recomend the .99 pplan as 1gb of bandwith is not very much for a business website. For your paypal problem just make a paypal button for the other site. then click advanced or more options( I cant remember) and make the thankyou page go to the other site Doug You may also want to look here: http://www.hostingspeeds.com/index.php?act=hcompany&id=641 overall rating 17 out of 100
  16. You can go to file manager in your control panel then browse your pc for the file and upload that way if you dont have ftp.
  17. I think if you call the flash through a flash detect script that would improve the dialup and firefox hangups. just right the script and put it in a small swf file and tell the script if the file cant load to load images with rollovers for the menu. Then if the browser supports flash they get it if not they get a background image with rollover buttons for the menu. You could also tell it to check the connection speed and show the images for dialup. I know some people dont like to wait for things to load. If you need help with the script contact me and I can point you in the right direction. I think you should also make the main body table for the oxscommerce table smaller to keep it away from the edge and use a graphic for the table headers in your menu boxes that looks like your main menu I mean rounded. That would look really great if you did that. I like the overall look and it definatly works but I think sites that use shopping carts are so much better when they dont look like they use shopping carts, I probably said that wrong.
  18. If you have no computer knowledge or a decent graphics program and already have customers I would reccomend getting someone else to do your labels atleast until you can get the hang of it. Of course the first thing you will need is a name.
  19. Did you find it? Thank you for your comment on the site too LOL
  20. Yeah 300 is great for clarity. If you dont find the image disks let me know I just got 50000 new ones on 2 disks and it will make me finally go through them all LOL.
  21. I use photoshop and do my labels in 300dpi. That makes the best resolution for a crisp color label imo. Keep in mind the graphic will be huge and your laptop will need alot of ram but you will have a nice label. Also most free web graphis are 72 dpi or lower. If you know what you are looking for pm me or email me and I can give you a couple graphics to start you out.
  22. Its there, under the pillars category go to round pillars. If you elct the size it changes the price. The extra +0.00 is what is added to the base price for the size you select.
