I agree...let this wax sit right on their shelves. I couldn't sell this to anyone. -
New Quantum waxes - smoking when melting

Picture 1 - Christmas Splendor - 6% FO -(Pink Candle) First of the 4. Notice the Black at the top pool - Beneath is clear. All candles smoked like a train as each were blew out. The other 2 burned ok. The last grayish purple candle - Blueberry Muffin 6% - flame pretty much drowned out. All burned a good 4 hours. Picture 2 - Purple Hooters - doing good. Picture 3 - Purple Hooters - Flames Drowning. -
New Quantum waxes - smoking when melting

To chime in on the Q210 - I also noticed the smoking when heated beginning at a very low temperature. After putting the candle out, it does smoke like crazy (CD and HTP wicks) and I noticed black streams in the wax after it re - solidifies. One issue I am also having is the wick will burn fine for a good 4 hours, and then the flame becomes very small like its drowning. This is with a 6% fragrance load. The MP's were great as one candle had an HTP 83 and the other an HTP 93. Both had a nice size say 1/2 inch melt pool - from the first hour to the fouth hour, then the flame slowly but surely began to - "Drown". One candle I tested "Christmas Splendor" the flame was ridiculously high - 6% FO Load, but the top part of the melt pool was very dark - almost black, but the rest of the melt pool beneath it was quite clear and very deep. I will see if I can upload some photos. All this rucus and long wait over this wax - but it makes me wonder if we are seeing this - why didn't the Manufacturer? I will try to post some photos shortly. - I am afraid to even test again with 464 - with all the issues I am reading about. 6006 started to give me issues a good year ago and I left that alone. Is there a good wax out there? -
Thanks for the responses. I know I can't depend on my sense of smell. If it was left up to my nose - the only scents I would offer would be grapish smelling and lavender. So I will check out some fruity and light florals. Thanks again.

Could I please get a few good Fragrance recommendations and suppliers for Bath Bombs? I do have lavender already. I am just looking for a good 8 scents or so just to start that seems to be pretty good sellers. TIA.

Hello...I been out of the loop a while. Does anyone have any info on what the deal is with Peaks waxes? I need to get back into the candle testing and everything just about is out...6006 been out a good while. I decided to fizzle it up with the 4630 - but they are out of it also. Well, it says its out of Stock....I really like their quality and they ship pretty quick. Not sure what happened....

The Wax is 6006, and the jar is standard mouth 16 oz. mason jar- the jar is like a small version of a mayonnaise jar. I do trim the wick, but I think what I am venturing to seek out is, if the FO / Wax combo do not play nice with the CD wicks, is there another wick that could be used in place of the CD or should I just not use that particular FO?
-
My CD 10 wick is 5 inches and the CD 8 is 4 inches. When I had ordered the CD 8's I wasn't sure and still am not sure if they have it in a longer length. I am using a 16oz. Mason Jar. The flame does not settle down, but gets taller and taller. -- I will look for another wick supplier and see if I can get the CD wicks at a longer length.
-
Has anyone had this issue?
-
I am wondering... is it just me or does CD wicks produce very tall flames? It is just the second burn and in 4-5 hours the wick is a torch. The jar would probably explode if it burned completely down. So - my question is, if I am using the smallest wick that will fit in my jar, which is the CD 10, (the CD 8 is not tall enough) - what would be the next suggested wick type? Or since the recommended FO amount is 8% for that wax and I used 6 - does the amount of FO play a part in the height of the flame?
-
Hmmm. I am definitely interested in the one that is not quite 4 inches. Thanks Robbie

Hello All, Does anyone know where I may be able to find 16 oz. apothecary jars that are just short of 4 inches in diameter? More like 3 3/4 in diameter?
-
I am using 6006 wax. I haven't used any additives. I was curious to know if adding "Universal Additive" would help the wax melt to the sides of the Jar quicker. The jar is a 3 inch diameter tumbler. It seems like the wax needs a little something to "Help" the MP without going up a wick size. I just am not sure what that could be besides soy.
-
No - not on the first burn. But I would expect it by the 3rd or 4th burn to have a FMP of at least 1/4 inch. But - it just seems that it should burn out to the edge of the jar in at least 2 hours. That is - in a 3 inch diameter jar. -- I was curious. As I am burning one of my jar candles, and burning a "Y...ee Tumbler Jar. I lit them both a half hour ago. My jar is just a walmart cylinder tumbler. -- The Y tumbler has a thick wick inside, a very still flame, and the pool has burned out about 1 1/2 inches. Mines has burned out about an inch. This has been 1/2 hour. The Y wax burns effortlessly in a jar that has no shoulders. That is why I was wondering if there was an additive besides soy wax that will allow for a quicker MP. Soy would be good, but then some things would be compromised.
-
Can anyone please explain if or not you notice that wax reaches a FMP quicker with the use of universal additive. I know what they describe it to do on various sites, but could someone give an example of the candles performance with the addition of universal additive? I will order some, but what I am looking for is a more of a full Melt Pool with out adding additional soy. I am satisfied with the wick size for long term burn, but if a customer only burns the candle 3 hours and the candle dont get a FMP for 6, the candle may run into tunneling issues.

ECO Soy Wax Being Reformulated
Grani L replied to Moonstar's topic in Vegetable Wax & Beeswax Candle Making
Candles and Supplies mentioned something on their FB live page about some reformulations coming in 2017 but gave no real details -
No...I have not sprayed the molds with silicon spray. I will give it a try.
-
Ok- thanks for the suggestions. I guess I will head off to order a few more FO's. I am gonna go broke fooling with ordering FO's. Its very mental for me because I Have to go overboard with ordering.

OK- for nose test OOB , they smell pretty strong. Off to testing. I am going to test the Zincs. I do have some 51's. And I will be backing down to the 6% - I see that I am getting a nice throw with some of the candles, but not satisfied with black on the jar early in the burn. So...I just made Peaks - Sugar Cookie. Its doing very good throw wise with 6%. Got to go up a wick size - the wick acting like it want to go out....

Does anyone know where I can get a different type of mold for cherries and strawberries? I currently have the Thick Yellow Hard Rubber Type molds. I have a heck of a time removing the pieces from it. I was hoping to find the other softer type of mold if possible - Like Purple or Green that would be easier to demold. I have a soft green Blue Berry and a Muffin Mold I had bought from Gatehouse Candles - but I dont know what happened to them - they were up in the mountains in Waynesboro PA - I think it was. I don't want to buy embeds, I would rather make them my self - without the hassle of struggling to get them out. Any help will be greatly appreciated, especially if my removal process may be incorrect.
-
I trim the wick just below a 1/2 inch before lighting.
-
No..I never got the candle back..but I also wick for the bottom half of the jar. I am currently testing in 16oz.mayo jars. I am satisfied with the flame height and wick size...and also do notice my throw gets better as it burns down. So FMP for me is 3-4 hours. At the last third of the jar the MP of about 1/4 - 1/2inch around the 3 hour mark.
-
Should I expect a good 1/4 inch melt pool in at least 2 hours? My candles reach a Good FMP in the 3-4 hour range using 6006. I am a little stumped... I reluctantly gave someone a candle who kept bugging me and bugging me. So any way, when I followed up on feedback, he told me that the candle tunneled down the middle. I think the person that actually burned the candle only let it burn an hour or two. I know that I had the right wick size because I made 2 of the candle so I could test burn it to see how it burned. -- So should I expect a FMP sooner - in case people only burn the candle just 2 hours? If I was at the point of selling, I would educate customer on how to burn my candles. Would adding Stearic acid enable me to still use the smaller size wick, but achieve a MP quicker?
-
Ok - I appreciate the feedback.

May I Please ask...what can I use to pour wax into strawberry and cherry embed molds? The small pour pot resulted in a nightmare. It does seem to get better if there is just a small amount of wax in the pot. Any help I will greatly appreciate.
