  1. wow ! that's really neat !!! Never heard of anyone doing that before. Great idea !
  2. everything looks great !!! can you explain what an "open home" is for your candle products ?
  3. The "multiply by 3" breakdown is --- material cost, overhead, and profit --- . The electricity and your labor would fall into the "overhead" part of the equation so it's already factored in. Granted it never truly covers our labor but it gets a bit of it in there. LOL
  4. Hi Nicholas. Welcome to the board. You need to add up every dime you spent making that candle.. jar, lid, wax, FO, dye, shipping, etc. Then the general rule is to multiply that number by 3 to get a retail price. That won't be the 'set in stone' price but it will get you in the ballpark of what you should be charging for your candles. You may have to adjust up or down as needed.
  5. I have to agree too. I've never been a techie type person, especially when it comes to cell phones. Just show me how to turn it on and how to answer if it rings !!! Never needed or cared for all the extra "bells and whistles" of a phone. Square has changed all that. We went ahead and got new phones last week so I could use Square and after using a cell phone for over ten years, I sent my very first TEXT to my daughter the other day. And my daughter is ecstatic !!!! LOL
  6. . . You didn't say but I'm assuming you are living in a dorm room now ? Your parents kicked you out because "what" is getting too much ??? . If taking over their kitchen is the "too much" then do they have an extra bedroom ? What about your old bedroom ? Any reason why you couldn't move your work station into there and then it would be out of your parents way. ?
  7. 6.48 x 3 = 19.44..... so your selling at 17 each is not too far off the mark.
  8. I only do wax melts ... no candles ... and I'm strictly soy. I have no desire to be seen out in my driveway beating the crap out of a block of paraffin. LOL Seriously though, I love the ease of the soy flakes. I've tried three ... EZ Soy (horrendous frosting issues), CBA (awesome look but hot throw non-existent), and EcoSoya PB which I'm perfectly happy with so will stick to it.
  9. will these work ? http://www.tealightboxes.com/category_s/47.htm even though it says tealightboxes... the page will open to votive boxes.
  10. Tyler Wren was the one who replied to me also. I'm guessing the four in a case is four of the same ones. They have some really nice ones but I hate that they only stock 8 of them year round. Although I guess they could have any number of the others so a phone call to order will probably be best just to see which ones they have at any given time. I do find it interesting that they suggest we sell at $ 14.99 retail when they sell in their own online store for $ 16.99.
  11. well..... different reps must be giving different answers ...... I wrote them again last night after posting I hadn't heard from them and I received a response this afternoon. I told them I was a very small business making my own melts and was looking for a wholesale supplier for the melters. The email said they have 8 basic ones they try to keep in stock year round plus a few holiday ones. I don't know which 8 that is but I emailed back and asked. They come boxed four to a case and if you order at least 4 cases you get a break on shipping. So I'm going to hopefully order a few in January... if I survive the holidays !
  12. Thank you for the replies everyone ! More to think about ! Jo
  13. I've seen these in a few places. I've emailed them a couple of times asking about information regarding wholesale pricing but have yet to receive a reply from them. Jo
  14. bringing this back up to get more information from everyone using Square. I have to wait until January to upgrade my phone to one that will accept Square so I'm still researching. I've been reading the Square user agreement about receipts and it says ....... 21. Receipts. When your customer is present at the time of the transaction and signs the Square Signature Screen, you benefit from the Payment Network rules for card present transactions. You agree to request that your customer personally sign for all transactions greater than $25.00 when your customer is present. You must make a written receipt available to your customers for any transaction greater than fifteen dollars ($15.00). You may give your customers the option to receive or decline a written receipt. As a convenience, but not in lieu of a written receipt, you may also offer Square electronic receipts for delivery through SMS or email to your customers. ....... so my question is ...... how do you give your customers their written receipts if they request one ? Is there a receipt printer available that will print from the Square app ?
  15. you can buy the replacement bowls for the electric warmers. several colors to choose from. http://www.tartburners.com/canwartarad.html Approximate size 2" high, 2-1/2" diameter at the bottom and 3-3/4" diameter at the top.
  16. I'm jealous ! I wish I could convert my garage into work space and storage.
  17. those look great ! I do have a question though .... what does the 5% paraffin do for the soy ?
  18. . What temp are you heating too ? Pouring at ? . I'm surprised to hear about bad frosting with CBA. I started out with CBA about a year ago and totally loved it for the pretty, smooth appearance and no frosting... but I changed because of the difficulty with hot throw. I still have a few tarts (clamshells) that I made back then and they are still free of frost.
  19. same here. I've searched a few times now and still coming up with none like this. I know they are out there !!!!
  20. one week in .... how are you doing ?
  21. I started out by reading... reading... reading... looking for every thread I could find where members here were talking about their favorite scents, or their best sellers. Looking at every supplier website I could find to see if they had lists of top sellers. From all that I made a list of about 30 scents that seemed to be the most popular or "best in soy" and my daughter and I picked 10 from that list based on the fact that the description sounded wonderful. That was over a year ago. I now have waaaaaaaaaaaay too many scents in my cabinet and working on getting back to a much smaller number. And I've discovered that picking that first 10 ... hard as it was .... was tons easier than trying to choose which ones to get rid of. LOL
  22. a very nice marketing ploy ! remember Scentsy thinks theirs is uber special too .... so does Yankee and Kindle and Partylite .... and everyone else. LOL The extra chunks ... different color and different scent .... is a great idea. Wish I'd thought of it !
  23. I searched for a little bit last night and couldn't find any... I'll do another search and see if I can find something. I've seen them before... just can't remember where.
