  2. Take extra care when handling the pot. hyd. The flake form has a lot of very fine dust that will really mess up the nose:shocked2:
  3. You need to wear a mask when working with slsa. It contains a lot of fine dust that will definitely wreak havoc with the sinus's:shocked2:

  8. Another thing to remember is that the FDA is so busy that they will never bother with them unless they receive numerous complaints
  9. I have some from IFT, haven't tried it in candles, BUT 1oz in a 3.5# batch of soap will run you out of the room!!
  10. OO castille is slimy unless it is given a loooong cure time. 100% OO castille with no water discount will take a year of curing to loose the slime

  12. Lye is mixed ahead of time. I mix it by the gallon. When I want to make soap, I pull out a container of oils nuke it for 3 minutes, add fo, lye, wham bam it's done:)

  14. I've also heard it does less damage to the fragrance. Personally i prefer to cover the mold and let it set overnight. simple and easy. Try a water discount if you want shorter curing time. I like making things as simple as possible Master batchs pre- mixed lye (40% solution) Fo's added to the oils I can whip up a batch in 15 minutes
  15. If it "rose up" it definitly gelled. I know a lot of people like to put soap in the oven to insure gel, but I have never had a batch that didn't acheive full gel by simply insulating the mold.
  16. As long as everything is mixed, no oil floating, pour. For crisp swirls I pour at medium. If you want some blending, pour light.

  19. Exactly!! I used to help my grandmother make soap. No scales were used. She saved used grease (lard) until she figured she had enough, used 1 jar of red devil lye and made soap!
  20. The way I look at it, soap is for cleaning and should smell good doing it, but shouldn't be stong enough to stay with you all day.
