Lye is mixed ahead of time. I mix it by the gallon. When I want to make soap, I pull out a container of oils nuke it for 3 minutes, add fo, lye, wham bam it's done:)
I've also heard it does less damage to the fragrance. Personally i prefer to cover the mold and let it set overnight. simple and easy. Try a water discount if you want shorter curing time. I like making things as simple as possible Master batchs pre- mixed lye (40% solution) Fo's added to the oils I can whip up a batch in 15 minutes
If it "rose up" it definitly gelled. I know a lot of people like to put soap in the oven to insure gel, but I have never had a batch that didn't acheive full gel by simply insulating the mold.
It will be soft, requing a very long curing period. weak lather very conditioning Needs more hard oils you have 88% soft oils That said, 100% olive makes a wonderful soap if you are willing to wait a year for it to cure
Exactly!! I used to help my grandmother make soap. No scales were used. She saved used grease (lard) until she figured she had enough, used 1 jar of red devil lye and made soap!
