  7. I used to help my grandmother make soap many moons ago. She just saved used grease, probably 95% lard
  8. if you hold a straw across the opening of the fo bottle as you pour you can get a small stream that doesn't run down the side of the bottle. The liquid will run down the straw:D
  9. Sounds right. Needs to be thick enough to suspend the sugar
  10. There are specific requirement for using the Monoi seal (certificate de Appeliton (sp) ) If you follow the guideline and use the minimum percentage for a specific product you are allowed to use the seal on the product. Oil based products require 50%, soap 30%, etc Monoi oil itself has to be 90%. hence the difference noted from different suppliers
  11. If there are that many people wanting it, I can get Monoi from the same place Lynn does. And a little cheaper too:D

  17. Something that has not been addressed is % of superfat. Since no lye amounts were given this could be the problem. Also how much water was used? A high % of OO can produce a soap that is softer fresh out of the mold but will become rock hard after a good cure. I have made 100% lard soap that doesn't have any odor that isn't present with any other oil or combo. Smells like soap. Seems as though a lot of folks immediately blame the lard. Personal preference aside, it's hard to beat lard:thumbsup:
  18. My opinion is the olive is causing the "stickiness" a long cure should take care of that. The smell could be from overheating or old oils
  19. Try mixing 50/50 or 60/40 monoi/fco:D
  20. Haven't had any wax eaten, but I have had a few bars of soap chewed on:laugh2:
