  1. Exactly! Even in homes that never burn candles or anything else you will see a lighter wall color behind hung paintings if they don't WASH THEIR WALLS annually to remove normal dust.
  2. Me too! The Taylored Concepts PB is good, but I would love for it to be even stronger like when you sniff a jar of natural PB.
  3. I & my family & friends have burned paraffin candles all our lives & have never seen any soot or had gray/black walls. Soy doesn't burn cleaner than paraffin, & the food-grade paraffin used in candles is non-toxic & doesn't cause cancer.
  4. I'd love to try it! I can't believe how heavenly the peanut butter & maple syrup candle I made smells when I put it on the candle warmer! It's amazing!
  5. As a candle consumer, I'd rather buy from a chandler with Stella's attitude because I'd feel safer. & as someone learning to make candles, I don't want to take any risks with anybody's safety or with liability.
  6. Why did you mix it with 464? Have you tried just plain 6006? Was the HT not good enough plain?
  7. Maybe the CO helped too, how much p.p. did you use?
  8. Maybe it's cuz you stirred for at least twice as long as I did? I thought I went 2 minutes, but maybe not since I didn't watch the clock.
  9. Thank you, Karen. I'm using 51 zinks. It's been 6 days, CT is strong to very strong, especially when I first come back home, but HT while burning is passably light & lovely on CS English Garden, but barely detectable on the other CS FOs, which are CS 3 leaf strong. Most of them work better on a candle warmer, although still too light. I did use one Taylored Concepts FO, a mix of their Peanut butter & their Maple Syrup, & got no HT at 6%, but a light HT at 9%. & when I put that 9% one on a candle warmer, it's HEAVENLY, but I still want it stronger.
  10. Thank you! I'm looking forward to hearing more. The CS FO that throws the best in my first batch of 6006 is CS English Garden. I love it! & I don't even like florals. But I should have used 1.50 oz p.p. instead of 1 oz p.p. I heated my melt pot to 200 by leaving it sitting in my electric skillet while heating my wax to 200 in my Presto. Heated my jj's in oven at 170 because that's as low as it goes. Then I moved my melt pot to my scale & pressed Tare, & then ladled 16 oz of wax into my melt pot. Then I moved the melt pot full of wax to my electric skillet again to keep the temp up while I added & stirred liquid dye drops, testing color by dripping on a white paper plate. Then I removed my melt pot from heat & tested temp & added unheated FO at 190 or 185, don't remember, but it should have worked. (Maybe I should have heated the FO to 160 in a mason jar in my oven?) Then I stirred with a whisk for what I thought was 2 minutes, but didn't watch a clock, so maybe I didn't stir long enough after all. Hmmm. Then I tested temp & poured at aprox 176, or so, just to try the higher 180-ish pour temp on my first batch before trying the 160 & 150 on later batches.
  11. Interesting, Eric, thank you. I don't want to get into blending if I don't have to. I'm excited about trying 4627 because of all the comments about it's fantastic HT.
  12. Interesting. I thought thickness would help too, but I was also told that thick glass shatters when it gets too hot. I wonder how Soy-Beam Candles gets away with filling any & all kinds of containers that people bring in. I don't see how they know what wick to use without testing.
  13. When I inquired about using lead crystal for containers I was told that the lead makes them overheat & they're too fragile, you're not even supposed to wash crystal in hot water, only warm.
  14. My understanding is that paraffin does not produce more soot than veggie wax, it depends on how you wick it & other things. That said, I love the look of GG palm.
  15. Thank you so much! My local candle supply quoted me 86 cents per empty clamshell container.
  16. Could you please post the link? When I go there it's a list of suppliers at different websites: http://www.eclamshells.com/
  17. Stella, I jumped in when I could afford to jump in, which was a couple of days ago. I would have started making candles weeks ago, but I had to gradually acquire the supplies over a period 3 of months, since my income is well below $1,000 per month. So I was forced to wait & do research far longer than I ordinarily would have, since I've never been afraid to "jump in." I made 24, 8 oz jj's with IGI 6006 & 7 different Candlescience FOs, 51z wicks, mixing my own colors with liquid dye, & they all turned out gorgeous with good CT, but the HT (so far) is little to none, either because they need time to cure or because 1 oz p.p. was not enough. The temps I used & the amount of stirring I did should have worked based on what I've read. So, I'll probably switch to that messy Vaseline-like paraffin that's known for it's amazing HT next. I can't remember the name of it right now.
  18. Gee! I just made 24 8 oz jj candles with 6006, 21 with 1 oz p.p. of Candlescience FOs & 3 with 1.50 oz p.p. of FO, with 51z wicks, & while the colors & appearance turned out beautifully, the CT is pretty good but the HT is very disappointing, even non-existent so far. I'm hoping some cure time will help. I heated to 200, then added liquid dye & stirred, then added FO & stirred very well with a whisk, & just the way the timing worked out I was pouring at about 176 degrees, or between 170 & 180. Many say to pour 6006 at 180, but IGI says 160, & a local chandler says 150. Help! I feel like switching waxes because I don't want to wait 7 to 14 days for a good HT.
  19. Congrats! The Candle Cauldron has a page about fundraisers, tips, & down-loadable forms too.
  20. That's wonderful news! You can save $$$ & get an awesome throw! I read in old comments about 6006 that it can also give the best FO with 1 oz to 1.25 oz per lb. Less is more! I'll try it. Thanks so much!
  21. That's what I want!!! What FO load do you prefer? I read that some get a better HT with less, like 6%. But I'll test from 6% to 9%. I'm sure I'll try both 6006 & 4627. Thanks!
  22. Thank you so very much for all that info, Traveler! That's what I really needed to hear! Awesome!
  23. WildFire has one with bubblegum & grapefruit & vanilla in it. I can't wait to try it: http://www.wildfire-creations.com/Candle_supplies2.htm
  24. What horror stories? The messiness? The mfg recommends the HTTP wicks or whatever they're called.
  25. Okay, never mind, I found answers to this by Googling & I don't want to mix any waxes. But thanks for the suggestion anyway.
