  1. "You can assume that Libby glass that is manufactured for candle use is safe." Thanks, Stella! But how do we know that?
  2. Thanks, Steve! These were not cut with patterns, but they were made in china. I won't buy them. Darn! They were pretty! They had some straight-sided uncut crystal goblets by by a couple of high-end crystal & china designers, like DANSK & that Japanese company that starts with the letter "M," for $2.99, would those be safe? The walls looked thick. Can I assume that most all Libby 11 oz tumblers are safe?
  3. I saw some pretty 11 oz lead crystal tumblers today on sale for 50 cents each. They were a cheapy brand, not Waterford or anything. The bottom was 1/4" thick, & the sides were straight & had facets like a 12-sided jar. They weren't cut with patterns. But a lady in the store said lead crystal is not heat-resistant, is that true? Are they heat resistant enough to pour into & burn?
  4. Today I was in the candle aisle of a discount store, & a lady in her 60s, (who refuses to burn anything but a soy candle, said she & her daughter had fallen in love with Pink Grapefruit scented candles but couldn't find them anywhere. That must be an awesome scent!
  5. According to Pantone, who does the official fashion colors each season, Honeysuckle Pink is 1st in the top 10 Spring 2011 Fashion colors. Good to know for choosing candle colors: Top 10 PANTONE Colors for women’s fashion chosen by New York designers for spring 2011 http://www.pantone.com/pages/Pantone/Pantone.aspx?pg=20752&ca=4
  6. Thanks for the in-depth explanation. In my state, many are all using Heaven Scent, Heaven's Scent, Heavenly Scent or some variation, & I couldn't understand why they were able to do it.
  7. That's what I was thinking after I recently bought my first Yankee candle, just a votive to try the scent. It had a good CT whenever I passed my kitchen table. Then I burned it at home in my den. After 30 minutes or so I got a decent HT in a 300 sq foot room sitting 10 feet away, & then the HT went away after 15 minutes & never came back. So, even though the candle was too small to scent that size room, as a customer I was just too unimpressed to ever go back to Yankee.
  8. Me too! & then I went to a private chandler's store, & I could smell the CT so much better, stronger, & more accurate by sniffing inside the lids where the fragrance collects. I mentioned that to her & she said she usually suggests the customers smell the inside of the lid, especially from the big glass jars she keeps her votives in. I will say that when I went to Yankee recently, the only scent that impressed me was the strawberry. I could actually taste it! Wow!
  9. EricofAZ: Red + Yellow = Orange :tiptoe:100% of the time. 10. Oh, darn. Now I'm going to stress out about which jj lid color to choose.
  11. Scotty: So, do you have to make sure all your candles get bought & burned within 30 days of being poured?
  12. Yikes! I'll check mine & see what lids they came with, but they look like a one-piece silver lid, & they're Ball jars. But, if necessary, can I buy one-piece lids locally or are they only at candle suppliers? Yes, jj is very convenient. Right now the cheapest are at Food Warehouse. But if it weren't for labeling issues, would you think embossed are cute? Or too junky?
  13. I guess they're also called "Classic" jars. These look really cute with the labels: http://www.kandicandles.com/index.asp?ID=22
  14. Thanks, pleasureridgecandles! I kinda like the idea of putting the label on the lid, so I might try that on my jj. I saw some 12-sided Dodecon jars that looked nice with an oval label on the front too. I also saw some very pretty Glass Glow 12-sided candles that were "double-wicked for a pretty glow." I'm not ready to get into GG, so I'm starting with 6006, but the 12-sided really shows off the crystalization of GG beautifully. I wonder if the embossed jj are a turn-off to some customers? If they really want a country look, embossed is very country. But my daughter only likes the smooth jj because she thinks they look cute, not country. lol Decisions decisions! Since I'll start out selling to friends & fam, I'll show both jars & see what they like. I wish there were fancier lids for the Dodecon jar.
  15. P.S. This is the jar I'm considering, but my daughter doesn't like it, so I'm wondering if that means it's got limited appeal...hmmm... http://www.candlescience.com/containers/6oz-12sided-jar/ I like it. I'm thinking that rural people in my area would like a low-cost candle that's a little different than the JJ & hex. Thoughts?
  16. I bought some 8 oz jj locally because the comments here say they're a bestseller, especially in rural areas. They're embossed with fruit. My local hardware store will order canning jars for customers year round with no added shipping costs. But I like the 12-sided Dodecagon jar too, & the 6 oz one holds almost as much wax as the 8 oz jj. They only cost a little bit more too. Which seems to be more popular with customers in general? I rarely see the 12-sided Dodecagon candles online compared to jj, is that because the jj is much more popular with customers? or what? lol
  17. These are awesome: http://www.coyercandles.com/
  18. Here's a cool video about it: http://video.about.com/candleandsoap/Marbled-Container-Candles.htm
  19. Thanks, Ravens. I don't mind if 4627 is messy. Is that why you prefer TCS & 4633? because they're not as messy? Or do they have better HT for you? & is there more than one TCS wax? What's the name of the one you like?
  20. The soy in the 6006 would make it longer burning, right?
