  1. Never tried 6006; do you know what the ratio is?
  2. Ditto for everything above! The only difference I do: I use a silicone spatula I don't cover or insulate mine I cook for about an hour, then stir in the "island" that has yet to be saponified, cook for another 20-30 min. Add my extra superfatting agents and FO last, pour into mold Slice the next day Cure for at least a week to harden up Lots of great questions!
  3. It depends on the fragrance; it should give you a percentage amount safe for skin as opposed to candles. You obviously want a skin safe FO. It can vary, but I load mine up by about 25%! LOL I know, it's probably way too much... No cure time necessary, just add to the bottle and shake shake shake
  4. Sounds like you are own your way! A power burn is basically what you do to mimic when an idiot gets a hold of your candle and burns it for like the whole day... Or an idiot who left the house for the weekend and forgot to blow the candle out... You want to burn the candle as long as you can without trimming the wick or anything; make sure you have the candle in a fire-proof environment and burn burn burn till it extinguishes itself... Remember, we want our candles to be as safe as possible; not everyone follows the rules and/or instructions. This is why candlemaking is more than just throwing wax and a wick in a jar. We don't want to get sued, let alone harm anyone or burns someone's house down... Oh, and make sure you have insurance before you sell any candle!
  5. I was just going to suggest the 60-44-18z for that libbey! The 51 should be good for the 8 oz. mason Remember, try to always test burn the diameter of the candle: 2 inch diameter: 2 hours test burn 3 inch diameter: 3 hours 3 1/2 inch diameter: 3 1/2 hours so on and so forth... Then, when you think you have the right wick, then test another candle and do a power burn Then, when you try a new fragrance test that one too! Isn't this fun? LOL
  6. Keep testing, you're doing great! Ok, what sizes did you use for each and how long were your burn sessions? Remember, anything that looks slightly underwicked in the beginning will catch up as the jar gets hotter further down the jar as it burns...
  7. Hey now! That looks good!!!!! Congrats on your farm! It's growing wonderfully, lol
  8. For the 8 oz, I use the 51-32-18z Don't remember seeing the 6 oz, but I would try a 44-32-18z on that one; you want a slower burn for a smaller candle... All of my 8 oz. jellies took a 44-32-18z, with the exception of a couple of fragrances. Your 4627 wax maybe burn slightly different than my formula, but all of your jars I would test with: 44-28-32z 44-32-18z 51-32-18z These would be your best wicking choices, IMO I'm so glad to help
  9. Then you should be good If the 52 is a tad too hot, then you could try the 44-32-18z...wait, which mason are you using? A jelly jar or a square?
  10. I have my own wax blend, mostly para, but did anyone successfully wick an 8 oz. or 11oz. tureen? Single or double wicked? These jars are tough!
  11. Yes, anything that has a little curve or shoulders always gives better HT:) Never had great luck with the straight sided jars until it got on the 2nd or 3rd burn... Still trying to perfect the 8 oz. tureen; I love that jar but it is a royal pain to wick! 60 and 62 zinc works but I don't care for the larger flame...thinking I may go to an 11 oz. and double wick...I love the HT the most due to the large mouth design. Did you get your mushroom farm started yet? Lol those darn zincs! I still swear by them, though. What size did you use in the mason? 44-32-18?
  12. Here comes the soy wax retaliation comments, head for cover! LOL In a nutshell! In hindsight, I doubt the manufacturers would divulge this info anyway, strugglebrother! I'd be curious to see what answer you get, though!
  13. I HP'd soap in the Passionfruit Guava.....AMAZING!!! I tried the Very Vanilla in soap yesterday...still hoping it doesn't cure out to smell like Play-doh! I must have tried a dozen vanillas and I just can't seem to get it to smell like vanilla; so frustrating!!! The peach fragrances are sooooo good! Peach Nectar definitely smells like schnapps; super sweet! The Peach fragrance is great by itself but I'm thinking of mixing it with the Nectar to get a really sweet peach without that "mixed drink" note... I use paraffin so any scent (almost) will give a great throw...if you're using soy I would definitely go with the Peach Nectar, it's stronger than Peach!
  14. Thanks, puma! Yes! The citronella is perfect! I can't get over how strong these oils are...
  15. I hear ya! I'm trying to scale down my suppliers too, for simplicity's sake! I think I've settled on NG, CS and BB. CS peach is really amazing, though. Look at the reviews on their website, it's a lot of people saying how much it smells like a real straight peach, too! I was actually going to blend Peach and Peach Nectar to see how that would smell; they both are incredible and strong OOB!!
  16. Any straight paraffin with a low melt point is good for blending. The only thing is, you have to add your own components to make it a good blend. Straight para will need vybar 260 to hold more FO. That will also require multiple pours which can be a pain, but HT is probably better than any preblended wax you can buy! ( IMO) If you're still fairly new to candlemaking, stick with the 4627 until you've nailed down the wicking. You're on your way, I promise! Once you get that down, then I would start playing with different wax/additive combos until you come up with your own unique blend:) There are so many variables it's insane; adding: soy petro mineral oil crisco coconut oil palm wax microcrystalline beeswax You can add in different amounts and then....comes wicking! It can be migraine inducing not to mention expensive and time consuming, but one thing is sure...you'll never have to worry if your supplier will discontinue, go out of business, batch variations, etc. When you have your own blend you have more control over your own batch consistency, down to the gram if need be. I don't think 4627 is going anywhere, as lots of chandlers use this wax. I just like knowing what's going into my candles and knowing that no one else on the earth has my formulation, lol! Hope this helps
  17. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am loving the new scents! I'm off today so I was just going to figure out my game plan for creating I also had ordered a bunch of samples from NG prior to my CS order...now I'm feeling overwhelmed, lol! I will say, CS oils are fabulous! All of them are super strong! I love NG but sooo many of their oils are hit or miss, or just not strong enough to my liking. I'll fall in love with a scent and later think, "Gosh, I love this scent but I wish it were stronger.." That goes for soap/bath and body products as well as candles... I think 90% of my order from CS are going to be keepers, though! Cranberry Marmalade...that one sounds good! Is it on the sweeter side?
  18. I forgot I have Carmelized Pralines! It does smell yummy! After a while it starts to smell like maple syrup, lol! I remember my hubby coming home and asking if I made pancakes...lol
  19. Candlescience Peach hands down! They also have a peach nectar, but I think you'll be more than happy with their Peach FO. Best I've smelled yet. (I've never tried the Tennessee Candle one, though.) I just gave a review on CS samples I ordered; you can see my reviews on the FO threads:)
  20. You would be better contacting a fragrance manufacturer, and asking them. I know some manufacturers can give you an $8.00 per lb. price and a $20.00 per lb. price on the same fragrance. There is where you would ask what solvents are used. I'm sure they can give you more info on what they "cut" it with.
  21. Sooo true, OldGlory! Good point! Wicking is a whole different ball game with different amounts of FO.
