  1. Hi guys! I think I discovered the cocoa butter in my lotion bar is breaking me out! I added more cocoa butter than beeswax to see if I could get my lotion bar "less sticky". I understand it's high on the pore clogging chart, but geesh! This is crazy! Any good suggestions for substituting cocoa butter? Something not greasy? I must have tried more than a dozen variations already, with ingredients as beeswax, sweet almond oil, coconut oil, shea butter, jojoba, avocado...just can't seem to get it right... Any help is very much appreciated!
  2. Well said, candlelady!! AMEN!!!! lol! No wonder you're a SUPA STAR!!!!!!!!
  3. I think it's natural to be protective; I've spent hundreds if not thousands of hours researching and developing various products because I want them to be the best. When someone comes up and starts prodding, would you just hand over those hours of your blood, sweat and tears?? Giving your full disclosure of everything you create in my opinion is foolish. I've seen new businesses open that are blatantly plagiarized down to the website and everything! Please don't be so naïve.... Maybe you haven't put in as many hours as some of us on here; I just don't understand your thinking.
  4. I've been making candles for about 15 years now, and I understand everyone has their own opinion/viewpoint. I'm glad you're happy with your decision to use cotton wicks; myself, on the other hand, am completely happy with my wicks and proprietary wax formula (and so are my customers). To each his own, right?
  5. You're welcome! Let me know how you make out!
  6. I've tried almost every type of wick and still keep coming back to the zincs. I would try a 44-32-18 or a 44-28-18 for that diameter. At least with the zincs they don't curl, and they give a great hot throw. Mushrooms are the only real problem I deal with.....HTH!
  7. Thanks so much, guys! Love all of your replies!! This forum is such a blessing! LOL
  8. How do you handle customers that are seeking specific answers to your candles? For instance, I had a customer ask me where to get fragrance oils, and I told her there are many online suppliers and to look them up on the net. Then, point blank, she asks me, "Where do you buy yours from?" What would you say without coming across rude? How do you handle customers like this? (I played dumb and said my husband does all the ordering of supplies, and I had no idea...) Yeah, I wussed out but I was not prepared for such a blunt question.... Anyone deal with this?
  9. Ever wonder what ingredients are used to make a low shrink wax? Petro? Mineral oil? Anyone know??? Just toying with the idea of making my own blend....
  10. You need to melt it. I usually melt mine to about 180 degrees, keep it there for 7-8 minutes, then continue. HTH!
