  1. I'm trying to come up with a scent description to post on my website for Pumpkin Hollow and I'm completely stuck. To me, it is not a bakery scent, more of an overall fall scent. Can anyone help me with the notes or how you might describe it? Is it a bakery scent to you?
  2. I'm hoping for feedback on how they perform? I worry because they are a low wattage, I believe the are all only 12 watts. It would seem to me only tarts made with low melt point wax would through decently. Has any tried a Yankee tart in an electric Jackel? To me, if a melter can melt and throw Yankee tart scent, it can throw anything.
  3. Coconut Temptation, Coconut Garden, Imaginary Coconut, Innocent Coconut, Coconut Mist, West Side Coconut, Romantic Coconut, Coconut for Lovers, Mystical Coconut, Midnight Coconut, Fallen Coconut, Market Square Coconut, Farmers Market Coconut
  4. Would straight paraffin plus a mountain of vybar get the wax to hold a load that high?
  5. Thanks everyone! I sent her all the links and suggestions.
  6. Thanks! I'm on the hunt for a friend for a wedding to throw instead of rice. I bought 2.5 lbs from the classified here and she thinks she'll need 10 lbs total. I wonder if non-French lavender would be less expensive. I'll let her decide!
  7. This is a huge problem and I know exactly what you mean. We save our own testing for days when the air is not running and plan our fall scents quite ahead of time and test earlier in the year. There are always new oils out but for the most part, we have a field of 30ish we rotate in and out every fall. However, we put no limitations on our testers and they do test with air on, etc. On my rating sheet, I always ask about weather or anything else unusual (like garlic bread for dinner) when they are testing and take that into account.
  8. Woo Hoo! Congratulation and wishing you much success!
  9. While we're on the subject of Fall scents, do you know of any supplier who carries a dupe of Slatkin's Leaves? Thanks!
  10. Seems there is a lot of misinformation out there about Vybar. Many of you know suppliers on a first name basis. Who do you suggest I call? I have no doubt I buy from almost all of the top 50 mentioned on these boards.
  11. I think they have the best Oatmeal, Milk and Honey and also the best Bobbi Brown Beach dupe.
  12. I like that the room spray smells yummy with the Sugar Cookie. I think Sugar Cookie is a very difficult scent as it is naturally a light scent. Thanks for coming back to post about your experiments. Good luck with the show on Thursday!
  13. I don't really have an answer as I don't work in soy. However, I found the paragraph about your slow melting in tart burners to be interesting. I looked up the melt point of those three waxes you mention, 4630, 464 and 415. 415 is the highest melt point at 125 which is more than fine for tarts. Tart wax should have a melt point of 132 or less (if combining waxes, then the average melt point of the combined waxes should be 132). Your other two waxes I believe are under 120 melt point. I know stearic acid/stearin raises melt point along with firmness. Maybe that was the issue. You said you've now started omitting the stearin, are you still having in issue with the tarts taking a long time to melt? Again, I don't work in soy but I think you need to find a soy pillar blend known for great hot throw and combine that with your CB. I would say 50/50 PB/CB is a good ratio to start your testing. In the paraffin world, many use 70/30 PB/CB.
  14. Yes! You are the best. Those etsy soaps are BEAUTIFUL. Oh my goodness. I would never use them. You are so very kind to share the mold website. Wow. Thank you everyone for your help.
  15. We carry about 300 scents. I order from 20 to 30 suppliers on a regular basis. In some cases, I only order 1 or 2 scents from a particular supplier. I have noticed that some suppliers excel or bomb at bakery, some at floral, some at fruit, etc. I do see trends within MY scent list and suppliers. I also have suppliers I will never order from as I've had bombs across all scent families or strength (ie, Candles and Supplies is one of those).
  16. I only make wax tarts and have many silicone molds. However, I just received my first ever order for bridal shower favors (oh happy day!). The hostess would like to give everyone a tart melter, which I sell, and a dozen heart shaped tarts in Falling In Love scent. She showed me a picture from a magazine of an embossed heart soap and asked if I could make a heart shape that was similar. It was very pretty and feminine with scrolls. Another had flowers and mini hearts. I don't need that exact design but all my hearts are prim or grubby. Can you share with me some good travel size soap mold sellers and perhaps I can spot a pretty heart mold?
  17. I think it would work if you could find enough wax buyer in your geographic area. I don't think a co-op for wax, on this board, would work as whoever ran the co-op would run into the same high shipping cost to get the wax out to those who participate. Seems to me you'd (or someone) would have to make the drive and then everyone who participated would need to drive to your house to pick up their wax. Their gas cost, driving time, plus whatever "fee" your charging needs to be worthwhile.
  18. I think it is good to understand things from a customer perspective. They are not candle makers. They want a pretty smelling house. The wouldn't know what "wicking up" or a fragrance oil load is from a kumquat. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our "art" yadda yadda yadda that we forget the customer experience...do I like the scent and is it strong? It is called marketing for a reason and we all fall for it every time we enter a grocery store and buy something new on a shelf. That link was to an article not tied to any supplier or vendor or seller (to my knowledge). It may very well be outdated with waxes of 20 years ago but your AVERAGE customer has no idea what the waxes were 20 years ago or what they are today. They do understand the term triple scented in the context of a candle site or candle label. I don't personally know any sellers who use this term but I have certainly read it on sites and label. I do not jump to the conclusion the sellers are liars.
  19. As I stated, not saying this is Gospel truth but helps give some perspective to the term. You think it's wrong, others think it makes sense. Pesonally, I don't like the term but I no longer will view it as misused when I read it. It seems to have some basis, whether I agree with it or not.
