  1. I've never read about them, heard of them. Will have to go investigate..... !!!
  2. Thanks, this all helps greatly. I have no need to use vybar, didn't think so, but this all helped me confirm my thoughts.
  3. My tarts were just fine!!! I use very little pillar wax in my tarts but enough to help them unmold and to get out of the tart melter on the customer end. No weeping of oil, I stuck to my 8% load, can't tell any difference in my hot or cold throw. Luckily, the one's I had to make to complete this order are pretty heavy duty fragrances in the "laundry" category and two florals.
  4. It is a woman's perfume by Aquolina, launched in 2004. The "male" version is Blue Sugar and the also tried a chocolate version.
  5. Can anyone beata my list of FO suppliers for candles or tarts? Here's my current list.... Aroma Haven Alabaster Aztec Bittercreek North Brambleberry Brighter Scents CandleScience Cierra Connies Daystar Elements Fillmore Indiana Just Scents Kentucky LoneStar Majestic Mountain Sage Millcreek Soy Miami Erie (find these weak overall) Nature's Garden Oregon Trail Peaks Southern Garden Scents Sweet Cakes Taylored Concepts' The Candle Source WholeSale Supplies Plus Still want to try but only a scent or two from each so shipping holds me back Cajun Candle Bittercreek South Bert's Save On Scents (how is this for candles?) Backwoods Tennessee Cajun Moon Works First Choice (formerly Southern Soapers) Candle Cocoon Scent Works Trilogy but lack of descriptions makes me nuts and can you order one ounce samples or 16 ounce bottles? Thought minimum was 25 lbs.
  6. I've never used Vybar but have seen it mentioned and did a bit of research. Does Vybar make my current fragrance oil load stronger? Based on what I read, it seems it allows the addition of more FO than recommended by the wax mfr. Based on posts I've read, though, it seems that it makes existing loads stronger. In other words, if I currently use 8%, if I add Vybar, will it now throw as though I used 10%?
  7. I'm a tart maker, not candle maker so can't help with instruction. Maybe take a baby step and just use a color for a candle, rather than natural, that matches the scent. After a while, your partner might get braver and try the swirls. Are you sure it's not the price? I think many do natural color container candles and still do well. A striking label really helps on a natural label, too.
  8. Thanks. I'm not making candles, making tarts and I needed a paraffin pillar blend to harden my own blend. I would not send these tarts untested but figured with my coupon, it would be worth a gamble to try it out, test it and see if it works. If not right, I most certainly will not send it out. I usually use 8% and kept it in line with that and will see how it throws tomorrow when I melt it. Just made my first batch and they are hard enough and the cold throw seems similar to when I use my normal pillar blend in my formula.
  9. I had a lapse of mind and thought I had more of my paraffin. Didn't . Ordered it but won't arrive until later this week. Have to get an order out so I went over to Michaels and bought this wax, tried the Yaley website but couldn't find info. Does anyone know, maybe from experience, the max fragrance oil load this wax will handle? While I'm at it, how's the throw? I only bought the 4 lb block with a 40% off coupon so not out too much money.
  10. Are there any scents you just can't find to match your expectations and you keep trying over and over and over with new suppliers? I often find I have to blend to find perfection but there's still a handful that I can't find "off the shelf" or even blend to be able to be truly happy. Here's my list, what's yours? I have tried at least SEVEN fo's plus my own endless blending for each of these and still I'm not thrilled...... Sugar Cookie (AH Sugared Shortbread winner so far, testing Fillmore now and might be it) Butter Rum (I give up) Coconut (BCN the winner so far) Cotton Candy (I have several I like and just need to decide and stick to it!) Salty Air (Daystar Salty Sailor winner so far) Buttercream (I give up) Coconut Cream Pie (KY is the winner so far but find it to be weak, accurate, but weak) Banana (NG Bananza winner so far but not thrilled with it) Carrot Cake (can't seem to get that cream cheese frosting note) Birthday Cake (AH the winner so far) Apricot (Just By Nature had the best but now I'm still hunting) Toasted Marshmallow (KY the winner so far) Pie Crust (only 3 FOs tested....so far! ICS seems to be ok) Graham Cracker (only 5 FOs tested....so far!)
  11. Done testing soy for my tarts and have decided against an all soy tart for a number of reasons. Ravens, thanks for the post!
  12. I have the one from Just Scents, it is very yummy and strong, but it has baked chocolate notes in it, which to me, is unusual for a Bear Claw pastry.
  13. Johann, thank you so much! We really wanted to go but it we had a family graduation that day. Sounds like a really great time so nice her mom was there and the food was even home made.
  14. I am starting to get antsy and want to see if I can improve my tarts. I have several container waxes picked out but need to add some PB which is boggling my mind. I would prefer paraffin or a para-soy blend. Would you recommend either of these or something else? Although want both, the HT is slightly more important than the CT. Thanks
  15. I always thought Save on Scents was better formulated to be used for bath and body although it could be used for candles, however, their claim to fame is for bath and body FO's. Am I mistaken?
  16. I don't remember seeing a thread about this, I apologize if I missed it. If you attended, would love the details!
  17. I think the three classic American pies, blueberry (blue), cherry (red), apple (white) pies. Or with the God Bless America theme (the song)..... from the mountains (something mountain), to the prairies (wild flowers? grass?), to the oceans white with foam (salty ocean air scent)
  18. I have a few. I tried the search function but it is still not working beyond 2008. Which is your favorite? Any I should avoid? So far I like Nature's Garden the best. Thanks.
  19. I'm sure everyone on their email list received the email. Daystar reaffirmed that they are open, have always been open and will remain open contrary to some internet rumors to the contrary. They are bit behind on orders but catching up. In case someone didn't know this, passing it on! Daystar is alive and kicking!
  20. I'm being funny and serious at the same tim I've been to the Pacific and Atlantic. I've been to Nantucket and Florida, and England and Spain, Hawaii, Virginia Beach, California, etc. I've been to the OCEAN!!! I've been in a number of mountains, Rockies, Appalachians, Smokies, Alps, Ural and and others I can't remember. I've been to the MOUNTAINS. They all smell just like air to me. No different than when I walk out my front door here in the Midwest. What salt scent from the ocean spray? What fresh mountain air? Do I just have a horrible sense of smell? There is a post right now about someone wanting mountain cabin scents, I've read other posts debating which FO has the most realist salty ocean notes. I have Salty Sailor from Daystar, Sea Kelp from Aroma Haven, Ocean from Peaks, Ocean Breeze from Candle Science and Sea Mist from Candle Science. I've put all of them in wax. None smell like "the ocean" to me, then again, to me, the ocean has no scent unless it has dead fish or seaweed floating en masse.
  21. They could have renamed an oil or a custom formulation so you may never know the real oil. Some people are very kind, maybe email the company and ask them for the supplier and the name - they might oblige!
  22. I think it would be helpful if you shared the name of the supplier so we could all benefit from your experience. Thanks!
  23. Thanks Eric - 155, wow. It's not warping your clamshells? Lucky you! I pour at about 135 into clamshells. I started testing and using soy so I could pour this low but can't stand working in soy.
