  1. I use a turkey roaster, fill it full and add a pitcher and a half with water, My soap is not old, it does shrink a bit, but I don't have problems with it sticking this way. I stir my additives in just before I pour into molds.
  2. I use a turf and surf for soapmaking. They just had a smaller version on sale at walmart for 30 bucks. I have melted oils in no time. Mine is the larger kind with a spigot, but a presto would probably work better than a hot plate. They took to long for me. ps, in a pinch for small oils I have used an electric skillet. I set the pans down in it (it holds 4) add water and heat them up. I am chicken on the microwave, I like to see how hot it is getting.
  3. We pay around 50 per space, usually 10 x 12. Ours are indoors, but some have outside places available. The outside ones are where they typically sell garage sale items and such. indoors is mostly new or antiques. Most have 500 or more spaces. They are more like a mall. Our farmers market is only open two days a week, only in the summer. It think it mostly carries produce. As I garden myself I have never been there.
  4. I am also in several flea markets, they all do really well. It does not take as long as you think to build up customers. I do think it does depend on the market. If you are surrounded by garage sale stuff people will want to haggle. In our area most of the fleas are like malls, mostly new stuff, rent is actually high, but not as much as a store. Lots of people travel through and stop and look. If nothing else, mark your business cards with a coupon code and see how much more business it generates on your website, I was really surprised. I have a store, but honestly I do many times over my store sales in the flea markets. I get a ton more exposure, even if people don't buy they see you and remember what you have for later.
  5. Locksmiths don't require a license either. All you have to do is get a business permit and hang your sign, then you are privvy to all kinds of information. You can join organization that will give you certificates and take classes etc...
  6. aztec has them, I didn't see them on their site, so you might have to call.
  7. I am a miniturist, I love minis. I have several new house designs that are being made into kits. My favorite at the moment is quarter, but the houses are half scale. I sew, quilt and am presently teaching both girls to sew, although they want to make clothes (yuck). I love to garden and grow almost all the herbs for my soap. It is pretty extensive, but nothing like my Moms. I am sort of scrap booking I guess, I bought the large frames with all the cutouts and am putting my pictures in those. My daughter is nutso for it though. I would love to be able to sing, I am so bad, I hate to sing near anybody, but my grandbabies love it so they get to hear me. I have cross stitched and crocheted, but have grown away from it. I no longer have the need to can, but I used to love it, now I just have a smaller garden, the girls are interested in it though so maybe this year I will do a few things. My kids loved the garden, when they were young, they would just eat their snacks right in the yard. My husband travels a lot and the kids are gone, so I have some free time in the evenings.
  8. There was a sign in my ups, it said they do not ship perfumes and other scented liquids. It did not appear to be new. I asked if that would include fragrance oils and they said yes. I get most of my scents through the ups, so if your not supposed to send them airmail or ups, how are you supposed to get them. ps to the website lady, drop shipping is okay, but don't try it on ebay, you have to state it in your auction.
  9. My customers sign in with their information on my wahm website, it remembers their information after that. Your invoice form paypal will say...order number 54 from and the website your order came from, you will have to sign into wahms got to www.yoursite.com/store/setup.asp them click on history, the second option will let you type in the month and year and you will see all of your orders. I print from there, buy going to print preview and chossing the option on only printing that frame, I don't want all the side bar stuff on the invoice. hope this helps. ps you can try it and buy something, pay yourself, but you will have to pay the fees, so make it cheap.
  10. I used to work at a cookie factory, they delievered melted chocolate in big tanker trucks, sometimes they dropped a guy in to scrap the sides, (he looked like a big chocolate bunny when he came out) I wonder if they would melt wax? hmmm
  11. I found a program that works on round labels, micky mouse printshop. my avery templates make me print half and then turn the page over for the other half or else they don't match up. now if i oculd just find one that does ovals.
  12. My dollar store is carrying the battery operated lights right now. I haven't seen them cheaper online.
  13. I went to tsr and clicked contact us I copied the addy and went to mapquest. I did not google clikc make me a map or ask their website for directions. I copied and pasted the information into google. If they have other pages with their addy so what? I was on their website, I do not lie and I would have appreciated an I'm sorry, I did not and do not deserve to be harrassed that that is not what they found when they clicked after I had already called alabama, I am glad you have had a fine experience with them, I did not. I am not trying to stir up trouble this was my first experience with them and they dropped the ball. They (and you)can try all they want to say I did it wrong, but I took it off their website and ended up in timbuck too! I do not use them for anything, I do not have their addy saved, I went through tsr, but it should not matter how I got to their website, their contact us was WRONG! I did a page back, (it only went to may 2006 and their addy was wrong at that time.) if I can find out how to get back to FRIDAY morning, I will post the results here, I mean really, why on earth would I go all those extra miles, but to me the main thing was I was treated wrong! I should not have been told to refresh, that I went through google etc,.... I did not. An apology would have went miles here. If I had showed up (they knew how long I had been looking for them) and they would have said you poor dear, I am so sorry, would you like to use the bathroom, maybe a cup of coffeee while you wait, I would have been in a much better frame of mind. Sorry, they sucked. I did not need to be told I am a screw up and read their website wrong. Glad you have a great experience with them, I will never use them a again, when I screw up (or don't but the customer thinks I did) I do not berate them. that is bad CUSTOMER SERVICE!
  14. My reg supplier was out of jars so I hopped around and found some at alabaster, I ordered them and said i would pick up. Now here is the real kicker, The morning I was going I went to tsr, went to contact us, copied the addy, pasted into mapquest and away I go, GET THIS, It took me hours to find the damn place, the directions on map quest were off and I had to finally find a cop to get me to the right place, I get there and it is locked up, nothing in it, phone number on the door does not work, finally called the alabama number and a nice lady answers, it seems they MOVED a year ago, so she gives me another number, (wrong one btw) I called and called, while sitting in scareyville, finally called home and had to get my hubby out of a meeting to find the right number, the guy gives me directions and says 15 minutes away, so i take off, his directions were not at all good and it took my a LONG time to get there. HE TELLS me that I am wrong, I should have "refreshed" and he can't find the old addy on the website. I told him the lady from alabama said she would have Joe fix it right away. Now why in the hell would I go to Ind, when I could have went to Lousiville? I don't think I have ever been so upset in my life, get this he said you don't have to by from us... Right after spending an ENTIRE day finding him I am not going to take the jars. I have never purchased from them before and will not sell candles in jars if I have to buy from them again! He did not even bother to apologize, just kept saying things that I could have done to get the wrong addy, he said I must have googgled it! I am not stupid, I know exactly where I got the 'old addy"! at least the lady on the phone said she was sorry, their customer service totally and absolutley SUCKS! Shame on them for trying to make me take the blame because they didn't update their addy, but most of all for trying to tell me it was MY FAULT! I am going to copy and paste this over on tsr, if people are buying from them they should know how they treat their new customers.
  15. I only make regular cp, I have never tried any of the others mp stuff, although I have looked at it. Pros on it would be, once you get it, you can nuke it or shave it and add whatever you want, you are right most people do not know anything about making soap and could care less how you made it. It is quick and easy and fail-proof. You just don't ruin 50 bars of this stuff, by not tracing long enough. Although I imagine you could still have the uglies or the stinkies. We learned from Barbara Bobo, (24)years ago and have never even tried hp. cp Pros, you can make anything, use any oil, and it is so creative. I love to have a new kind turn out prefect, and try to rebatch what does not. Mom swirls the best, but she likes all the expensive stuff. Using lye is just the same as anything else, use care and don't make soap when you are busy, preoccupied, or have anybody in the house to bother you (kids, neighbors) cons, expensive shipping for oils, etc. once mixed the lye backwards and had a vulcano of spewing foaming mess. I have had to rebatch some depending on the weather, plus there is the curing time. The smell is a plus and a minus depending on what you have curing and how they smell together, I have had some that smell great and others I couldn't wait for them to cure they smelled so bad together. patchouli once just about made me leave my house, yuck. another con on soap making is the amount of space it take sup while they are curing. I think this is prolly true of most kinds though.
  16. Last year when my internet was down I went to the Library and signed in, they even let me print packing slips, etc...
  17. I sent a house through ups for a birthday, thery got it but the box had been opened and the contents removed, then sealed back up! Can you imagine delievering an empty box? I could prove by the wieght that it weighed correctly when I dropped it off, and sent them another, but it was not there in time for the party. Thankfully I had taken it in to the ups to be weighed and such, because i didn't want to wait a day for them to pick up or I would not have had proof. It still took them three weeks to get my money back to me, I only use ups for things over 4 pounds as that seems to be the cheapest shipping for heavier things, I do not use fedex at all. They are a pain with the paperwork. DHL comes here once or twice a week, nothing has been nroken from them, maybe I should look into it. Paypal has a new thing now where you print all you labels at once and then you get one paper for the po to scan in all your shipments. It sounds great but it is still a little shakey, imo. When I click individual packages, it knows the weight and how they wanted to ship, insurance paid etc, the new thing does not remember these things as of yet. Paypal also really sucks with international shipments ( I do a lot 1/3 or more) but theyonly offer global priority! I use airmail, as nobody I sell to wants to pay that kind of money in shipping.
  18. I get way more than 10 uses out of a bottle of dye.
  19. cute name.. I personally try not to buy from suppliers who sell "candles" and such to the general public. I like a supplier whose focus is on supplies. I would not like to be a candlemaker in the same town with a supplier who sells candles, does fundraisers and shows etc.. I have a friend who has a supplier right in her town, they sold to the general public and did all the fundraiser etc.. she had a hard time getting going, plus they could sell things so cheap! They just closed their doors last month so maybe she will be able to pick up some local business.
  20. I do it for my larger wholesale accounts. I print my own labels so it is not a big deal. They email me the logo and I click it in. I don't see it as a big problem. I am printing them anyway. It takes a couple of seconds to change it to their log and I save it for latter use. I own the work and I don't give them the file, though. Some places are worried about having their cometition get the same thing so they don't want anybody to know where they are getting them. I do charge for the tarts though. I have them made so they pay whatever it costs to get them.
  21. You have a formula button that will walk you through it, try help, then formula.
  22. I have some, I use clear bins with lids for storage, I label everything as I put it in. I use a label maker, so when I change to something else it just pulls off. I just got stackable totes and wrote on the outside of each for where it goes, no more grabbing the wrong box for the wrong place for me. I liked them so much I went back and got them for my wholesalers. (yea!) I only use stickems for writing down the scent and then I stick it in the bag, I can't tell one from the other anymore. I write on the candle box lid what I made, I have had to many stickys come loose. My most expensive lesson, use cash, buy in bulk and don't be afarid to ask for a discount! Oh yea, and stay out of the classy's. You never know what you might have to have until you see it.
  23. go to walmart and buy a pop or a pack of gun, swipe your card, wen it asks you if you want money back say yes and take out how much you need, I refuse to pay the fee to take money out (sometimes 3 bucks depends on what the machine charges) Sometimes I have to buy several packas of gum or go to a couple clerks to get it all out. I never use the transfer, it takes to long.
  24. My family has been making soap and othe natural products for over 20 years, it has never supported a family, but has given us the freedom to follow our dreams.
  25. Sounds like aol to me.. That place is a total rip off, you have to change bank accounts to get rid of them.
