  1. As your test continues, you might find that your original results still hold true. Wait until the test is completely finished and then let us know.
  2. I use pre-tabbed ECO wicks from CandleScience, mostly 6 inch. I also keep some extra tabs around so I don't waste wick if I cut off a long piece. I just take the "scrap" piece, tab it and use it in another candle.
  3. I also like to find unusual containers for candles but instead of making candles directly in the container, I will make a candle in one of my usual jars or tins and put that container in the unusual container. Hope that makes sense. It doesn't always work, of course, but sometimes it does. I think it's good to give new life to something old, as long as you can do it safely. :smiley2: HTH Deb
  4. I am a paralegal in PA. IMO, it must be worth it to you emotionally. If you are happy to get the judgment even knowing you probably will never get any money and that you will spend time and more money getting the judgment, then go ahead. If you are simply trying to get the money, unless it is a lot of money and the defendant owns property, etc., you will probably not come out ahead. It is a lot of trouble and usually not worth it just for the $. If it is for the principle, only you can decide on that one.
  5. Yeah, I think I'd have to say something to the kids. I'd start nice and go from there. Even without all the other stuff, they're blocking your stand. Deb Mia Bella =
  6. Gosh, I never thought of using goo gone for that. Thanks! Now I won't have to go to my regular job with magenta dye in my fingernails!
  7. Yeah, I love that trick for jjs. That's where I start too. But then when I get to my 4 oz tins, it just doesn't work for me. By that time, though, I usually have a good idea since I've already tested my jj. Deb
  8. Schedule a craft show or home party. Nothing like a deadline to get the juices going.
  9. Hi Sherry, I think starting a new thread on an old topic is good sometimes with new waxes coming out, new formulas and scents, and new people joining the board. The search tool is handy but discussing old things with new input is good too. Flicker - the pliers trick usually doesn't work for me on containers less than 3 inches tall. The wick falls over before you can really get a chance to see what's going on. I do use it for large containers to narrow the wick size down to two or three choices. Then I make testers with those two or three wicks attached to the container. HTH Deb
  10. The paper dixie cups are okay but only if you are measuring and immediately pouring the oil into your wax. If you let it sit too long, the oil will eat through. Plastic dixie cups are not recommended.
  11. Mindy, get ready for that small card table to take over your whole kitchen! LOL Also, you might want to consider going ahead and making a whole pound of your first scent. I melt one pound of wax, add 1.5 ounce of oil (by weight) and then dye. (Some people do this differently so that the total weight of the container with oil included is one pound - whichever way you do it, stay consistent or you wicking may be off). That way, you have plenty to play around with different wicks and you won't have to stop to make more wax. Testing takes more wax than you think. Good luck and enjoy the process. BTW, your house is going to smell great! Deb
  12. I use Very Vanilla from CS and I actually have to wick down on this one. I know usually vanilla gets wicked up but not this one, at least for me. I use C3. In an 8 oz. jj, I use an ECO 8. Any higher and I get soot. HTH Deb
  13. Sounds like fun, tornadoes and all. Did you do well?
  14. CandleScience has very nice, solid tins that are made in the USA.
  15. What color would you make it - orange or purple or what? That's always my dilemma with these types of mixes. You could call it Pumpkins and Petals, maybe.
  16. Depending on why she's a PITA, maybe you could just make things difficult for her so that she'll stop ordering. Like if she wants to be catered to with special orders, just say no. Or if she wants to return things all the time, say no. You know what I mean?
  17. And if they ask how something is done and you say "sorry, trade secret" they get all huffy! Oh and we always have people who want this product but in this color and that scent and this other jar with this other ribbon and can you just put it back for them in case they decide they want it... People drive me crazy sometimes. Either buy it or go away. Sorry, Scented. Didn't mean to hijack your thread with a rant. I'll shut up now.
  18. I did made some years ago but they were a PITA and I didn't really like the look. I thought they looked kind of amateurish. But done properly (by someone with more patience than me), they would probably be cool. I think they are tough to get to burn properly though. Maybe you could make them into forever candles.
  19. I usually go on a case by case basis. If it looks like a tourist who is just taking pics to show people at home, I don't make much of a fuss. If its somebody from the show or newspaper and they want pics for marketing purposes, they usually will ask. I don't have a problem with that. If I see someone who obviously is taking pictures to "copy" or if they are writing down prices, etc., I might go walk in front of my stand to block their view and say (nicely) "Can I help you?" Usually, that's enough to shoo them away. I share a stand with my friend who does woodworking and she has this problem all the time. She says that if they are going to copy from her, the least they can do is buy it first. Sometimes a person will actually tell us they are buying the product to copy. Kind of leaves us speechless. What are you going to do? With today's technology, people can take pictures and you don't even know it. The other people who irritate me are the ones who meet in front of my stand and reunite with old friends, relatives, etc. They block paying customers from my stand while they reminisce and catch up.
  20. Please keep us posted...we'll let you try it first! Deb
