  3. I've soaped with the 92 and it works fine..its the melting point that was a little getting used to but really it worked fine.. good luck..
  4. I wouldnt .. but you could and see what happens..you may NEVER know..but without the % of what oils are what the SAP value cant be known.. but when you do talk to them even if they dont give you a % breakdown of each oil you can ask them what the SAP value for the shortening is... good luck..and try it it may be awesome..

  6. I was worried about that..those little boogers never come by themselves..haha its still on the curing rack and is firming up well..not sticky and from the bits that I have used so far very scrubby.. so really to answer your question .. I have NO idea..maybe a little experimenting is in order..I'd hate for people to get ants because of my soap..but really its natural..*just joking*
  7. I have never tried lotion bars too..the name just intrigues me..is it a lotion ?? is it a bar??? I love it..thanks for sharing..
  8. dunno really.. I know that sometimes people have issues with salt being either too coarse or hurting if you use it over cuts.. I guess I was in a sweet mood..haa!!
  9. just whip it..whip it good. anywho..sorry I had to..love all the processes..
  10. I saw a soap similar to this..the one I saw didnt have the zigzag lines.. anywho.. the lady said she made one log, then cut it down to fit the mold.. poured more soap then placed the 1st log into the traced soap.. then top it off with the top layer after the whole log is cured.. I hope that was clear..its clear in my mind..may have not translated well to typing..
  11. simplybea.. the crisco that they list in ingredients for soap recipes are for the solid shortening.. when you sub the Crisco solid shortening for the liquid oil its TOTALLY different..the shortening has combo oils in it so its SAP is different..
  12. I believe he is changing servers..heres the new site it says on the 30th itll totally be changed over.. heres the new website.. http://www.soapcalc.net/default.asp
  13. heres an reference for some of the soaping oils that you can use in soaping.. http://candleandsoap.about.com/od/soapmakingoils/tp/qualitiesofsoapmakingoils.htm I am thinking that when you are talking about palm oil you are talking about palm kernal oil?? if an oil has a quality that you like in a soap and you 'replace' it with an oil that has similar qualities doesnt mean that they have the same SAP value..so you will still need run it through the lye calc. the BEST thing that you can do is learn about what each oil does in a soap..everyone likes something different in a soap and finding some oils locally will help with your experiments.. good luck..
  14. you can always experiment with different oils that you find locally.. The ONLY one I cant get is coconut oil so I buy that one online but finding oils that are in your grocery store and experimenting to find a combo you like will help you out.. good luck..
  15. what are you using as a mold?? did you line it?? the recipe looks okay..it will be a little 'soft' until you cure it..hmm..
  16. thanks thecandlespastore.. LeahRB..I used regular granulated sugar.. and thanks 8-gran-ones..
  17. SimplyBea.. gotcha..ok,Crisco is a brand name and yes, they carry all sorts of oil, butters, shortenings so I can see why that can get overwhelming..so to break it down when you see a recipe that says Crisco they are usually meaning the shortening in the blue tub.. http://images.publicradio.org/content/2007/01/26/20070126_crisco_18.jpg Crisco doesnt have neither palm nor lard so if you do find it its all for you to use.. you could just want to make a soap with just some coconut oil and olive oil..at the grocery store you can cruise the oil isle and see what you have available..regular vegetable oil is usually soybean-you can use that too.. anywho..bottom line read labels of the oils that you come across make sure you know whats in it and really experiment and have fun.. oh,and shortening is usually a muxture of oils..if you want to soap it you can contact the company to see what their SAP value is so that you can figure out how much lye to use.. good luck..and have fun shopping..
  18. SimplyBea.. what are you confused about as far as the shortening and the oils?? maybe we can help!!
  19. thanks topofmurray.. and kitn..really?? I havent heard of it until I saw it at WF.. so since my posting.. I have contacted the co and after some discussion on what I wanted-she thought I wanted their % which I guess is a trade secret:) I asked her for just the SAP value since I wanted to soap with it and she gave it to me..so all is good.. I have soaped with it twice recently and liked the results..they are still curing so time will tell.. thanks for your help..totally appreciate it..
  20. Jeana..I havent really looked for anything else other than Crisco.. what is the brand that you use??
  21. I have used Crisco shortening in my soaps and it soaps awesomely.. usually when Crisco is written in a recipe its the shortening that Alajane listed the ingredients of.The only one that I have used was the one in the tub not sticks..I am not sure if theres a formula difference between the two. I would check the label and see what the supafry has in it.The problem with blended oils(oils that have more than one type of oil in it) is not knowing what the %'s are so not knowing what their SAP value is.. If theres a blended oil that I want to use to soap with I contact the company and see what their SAP value is. good luck.. cant wait to see what your first batch turns out like
  22. I have been trying to make soap with sugar in it..the last 2 times that I tried I forgot to add the sugar-DUH!!! anywho,I finally had a chance to make it.. its awesome..super scrubby..I cant wait until its cured so that I can use it..
  23. good question..I'd love to know too..
