  1. I love ICS's version, it is very nice.
  2. It may be actual cocoa, like in FOH's cookie scent.....
  3. This is a great scent, we sell it all year long. I have a wholesale account in 'apple country', and they can't keep it in stock.
  4. For what its worth, I also use soy and found this one to throw better than WYW. I think everyone has different results, but I can't ever get away with pouring WYW as low as everyone else, either. I can't go below 7% or I get a mediocre throw.
  5. Hey-- I thought it was strong, liked it better than others I have tested. I didn't get the fake note, but it could be my nose, I will have to burn that one again----I have candlenose at present.
  6. Hey again-- I just burned a couple new ones from Millcreek, and as usual, they rock! Mango Papaya, awesome throw in soy Butter Pecan, another keeper, great scent Chestnuts and Brown Sugar, good throw, but I didn't care for this one as much as JS's version. Irish Cream Delight, another keeper fo' sho' Gourmet Sugar Cookies, I was surprised on the throw in this one, very nice. Usually sugar cookies are lighter, but this was pleasant and strong.
  7. Thanks everyone, I now have a place to start!
  8. Yeah, I have several in my shop right now that are crystallized, it is totally fine. (I also use the double boiler to reincorporate the crystals, but they do end up doing that again, in my experience) FYI--I also use a Choc. Chip Cookie from FOH that has actual cocoa in it, and it has brown floaties, it doesn't effect the outcome at all, but boy is that a great scent
  9. Peanut Butter Cookies from Snowtop is very strong and just excellent. (Not sure if that helps)
  10. No kidding. That is an understatement! LOL They just don't get that a quality candle just doesn't happen on its own.:rolleyes2 I wish I had a dollar for every wannabe that asks me how to start making candles, where I get my wax, and how do I make them smell good. No kidding, I had a woman ask me last week how they all get the pretty colors, is it from different waxes? OMG, lady don't quit your day job.
  11. Ebay or a local stamp/scrapbook store, there is one in the mall we were at, they had so many stamps it was just crazy.
  12. Yeah, that does happen. They need to be centered--I also do it equally across the jar
  13. I think a store is a great idea, we truly did very well, it was just a time in our lives when we wanted to switch gears and spend more time with our kiddos. So I would never dissuade anyone from that avenue. Especially if you have a place to do it in, go for it. My wife misses the shop sometimes, she loved chatting with the customers. I just like to be able to set my own hours, you know? The mall hours really got to me---especially during holidays. Our only day off was New Years Day, and that was our inventory day. Had an employee embezzle 60 grand from us....amoung a few other minor incidents, so all in all it was a tough gig. I travel quite a bit, so this fits me better. Now that we have kids, I do most the work so my wife doesn't have to Oh--there is a great shop in a local mall that is cool, boutique-y as you mentioned, the woman that runs it does very well.
  14. Hey- I am on the hunt for a Burt's Bees type Bay Rum. They have one that several folks have requested as of late. Anyone ever come across this one? It is for B&B.
  15. I have found the cd wicks to be my first choice in soy. I have about every wick out there, and this one is very reliable--little to no mushrooming, no flickering, etc. The zinc are a pain in the butt----they do burn ok in my blend wax, but I am prefering the CD or LX in the blend, as well. The thing about zincs are they do get a huge mushroom. If you keep them trimmed they are fine. (But come on, we know most customers will/do not do this ), and if they power burn a zinc wick, they will have a huge torch with a mushroom the size of a dime. That scares me, as I have had a candle explode, and I dont want any lawsuits. LOL Not my wick of choice either.
  16. Well, we had a retail shop for 10 years---started just out of college, (I shut it down a couple years back, and switched gears mainly to wholesale.) In our shop, we carried my line of candles as well as other name brands. One day the (damn) Yankee candle was burning, and kinda getting low----around an inch left, and it just exploded and caught the carpet and table on fire. It was pretty freakin' scary. Had customers in the shop too. God, what nightmare. One old lady was screaming and carrying on, I thought she was going to have a heart attack! Didn't know what to do first, put out the fire or grab the woman and calm her down. LOL. The funny thing about it was all of the customers were like "Dude, we are never buying another Yankee again, only your stuff!".....lol Worked out pretty good in the end, but my wife was totally freaked out and she didn't want to sell the other Yankee candles for fear of being sued or something. Ahh, the joys of retail! LOL I do not miss those days.....at all!
  17. 1/2 inch is good, I would not want my candle to burn any lower, either. We had a scare in our retail shop a few years ago, and had a candle explode, as well. SCARY! (It was a Yank**)
  18. JBN has a good one http://www.justbynature.com/fragrance-DG.html
  19. I have to say that I completely disagree. We have several customers that absolutely love this scent, and we sell it by the casefull. I am sniffing a candle made about 3 months ago, and it smells just like applebutter, apple and spice. I think it may be your wax or something.....This is extremely strong for me.
  20. Yeah, I agree. It is very nice. I also just poured pink peppercorn today, and this is very classy and nice---I love it in bath and body. If you haven't tried JS's Cherry Vanilla Swirl, this is a great scent, too. Very strong in wax. I don't hear much about that one, and it sells very well this time of year.
  21. This one really is wonderful---I think you need to let it cure first, and you will be very pleased!!!
  22. I just started testing a few of the new scents that have been out and I am really liking them! Apple Torte, Tutti Dolci---This one is wonderful. I really like it, it is different than an apple crisp or whatnot, very nice and strong, too. I poured at 9% in 50/50 Bear Claws--very nice! I tested this one a few hours after pouring and it rocks! 9% soy ZaZa Zu Cocktail--This is really great, has a fruity scent and a little zip to it. Cured this one for a week and it has a great throw at 9% Canteloupe--I love this one. Great throw and very refreshing Rhapsody--This is a wonderful blend of Grapefruit and mint. Wow, this is very upscale ---I tested it in our shop and all the customers went nuts over it. Rich Vanilla Wafer--Awesome throw in soy at 9% Very nice scent, you can smell the wafer and vanilla. Verry Berry Sorbet--Another great fruity scent. I like this one in bath and body too, it makes a great summer line. We made this one up for Mother's Day and it sold 2-1 over the other scents. Serendipity--This is really strong, and a very nice sweet vanilla/cherry/coconut scent. We changed the name, and it is selling well. Sweet Orange Pomegranate--Another keeper, this is truly delicious. Love this one. Great throw at 9% Sunkissed Currants---I think this is my favorite Currant scent. Even over Captivatingly Current from JS, it is very nice.....I smell tangerine or mandarin or something in it--really great throw at 9% Lemon Magnolia--This is so lovely. Very nice throw at 9% and the magnolia note is very true---we have a tree in our yard and it smells identical. The lemon just adds a nice note to it. I didn't get any fuel at all. That's all for now-----
  23. I got fuel in BCS's cherry cola, but for an awesome Cherry, I LOVE black cherry from JS--it sells like crazy for us. Sooo strong, too.
  24. NG has a licorice as well. I have a sample, but haven't used it yet
  25. Thanks! I will try that. I don't have either of these sizes in rrd, but can get some . I appreciate the advice.
