  1. If you mentioned it somewhere, I apologize - what state is your business in?
  2. I know this is not the same type, but I do a milk bath tea (2 oz.) with lavender buds, sea salt, powdered goats & buttermilk with oatmeal in a heat seal bag and I charge $4.50 each - I package them in a mulslin bag with hang tag. They sell well, especially in the fall.
  3. Lyschel will let you know and more times than not she has redone my shipping for a cheaper way. She is a DOLL!
  4. Hey I hear you on the insurance - I am soooooo over cobra and soon - it will be over too! I don't know how small business owners do it, really - I guess they are either in awesome health and don't need, want, or are offered decently priced insurance or they just bit the bullet and fork over the big bucks for the insurance. That was very kind of you to step out and assist those in want/need of your fragrances! If you ever open up shop again, I am sure you will have customers lined up at your door! Take Care ~ Abbie:-)
  5. I believe you asked for the closest to KY125 and you did not specify in your list GB435?
  6. I can't speak for the C3, but in my soy/BW blend I single wick with an LX30. It works great for most FO, the heavier FO it can leave some hang up on one side but only if the wick goes off center and even then not enough for me to double wick, customers don't complain.
  7. While we would love to have you in PA! Here is link for the demos scheduled for Chicago: http://http://ilsoapers.blogspot.com/2008/02/demos.html Looks like a fun day!
  8. I think you could be overlooking some big time advantages that always work for me in shows. First of all, I pour my own candles - most reps for companies like MB, PL and HI obviously, DO NOT. And although those other reps maybe hometown businesses, I am a hometown crafter, my products are made right here in THIS town. I have a wholesale customer order candles without undoing the lid, simple because my label said "Hand Poured in Winchester, VA". Other than that, I am sure your candles rock and my burning and room scenting experiences with MB have been uneventful, to say the least.
  9. ATTN: Chandlers & Soapmakers in PA, MD, WV, VA, OH, NY and anywhere else you care to travel from! Come Join the Mid-Atlantic Lights & Lather Artisans for the annual meeting this summer in Pittsburgh, PA - Saturday 7/19 http://www.lightsandlather.org I promised I would keep everyone informed on updates - Time to make plans for the summer! We have included topics for most interests - chandlers, soapers, general crafters - from newbie to pro! And there is a bit of room in the agenda for more if YOU LET US KNOW what you would like to see & learn. These are the additions we are working on: A packaging demo (Packaging & labeling handmade products economically, quickly and professionally) An insurance representative (Specializing in crafter's insurance, to discuss product liability) Candle Topic - Palm Waxes? Those suppliers/vendors participating so far with the event have been very generous and eager to share samples of their products or extend nice discounts to the group. In addition we have the prizes for the contests and they are each valued over $100, GREAT deal! The door prize list is extremely generous and the event coordinators have been working overtime already to put together informative literature and reference materials for the binder. The logo has been designed and implemented into gifties that everyone can use long after the gathering is over, nice touch! There are pre-event socials being planned and co-op polls are open on the message boards, I believe there are two planned so far. If you are interested, send me a PM and I will put you on our mailing list, that way you will be informed of changes and updates. If you want to save your spot, registration is available online.
  10. I am game, if Cheryl says it's the same - It will be. I think she sleeps with that sample under her pillow, dreaming of finding it again! LOL The Vanilla grapefruit sounds devine...dupe it too! Hey if you can't find it and no one owns the "formula" I say go for it.
  11. I HAD a few I loved, but everytime I introduced one and everyone fell in love with it, BCN stopped carrying it. I got to the point where I started buying 5 lbs. at a time, but that gone blown threw too, and then ... none left to buy. But I must admit, many of the ones I used were top notch and I wish they were still around, especially that infamous pumpkin pie...which I happen to know where 2 untapped pounds are lurking....um...hm...Cheryl...horder!
  12. Whoa! Look at Kelly traveling so far from home to demo at a gathering, you sure are lucky to have her!
  13. It's been forever since I ordered from them, but their website was never much help. Unless it's changed you had to call for prices, call or orders, call to check shipments. I think I looked at it one time and the rest of the time I used their price list as a reference.
  14. You ladies are WAY too organized for me! I just make a note of which bottle of FO I keep grabbing off the shelf!
  15. I am in the process of leaving the "zen cart" look: http://www.scentsandsensibilitycandles.com/Store I am not done entering products, but it will give you an idea of what can be done with the program and I did it myself. Just takes alot of tweaking and I used a template from sage fish and adapted it to my liking. Need any help and I will try to assist, pm me. I did find a great deal of support in the Zen Cart forums.
  16. I have used my pillar blend for tealights before, just make sure you use the right wicks for the pillar blend.
  17. Everyone has given you some really good advice. I worked in media graphic production for years and the one thing that many people don't understand when designing "logos" or "graphics" for labels is the real economical "use ability" of what they want or choose. I could make an awsome graphic that on the computer screen would look great, but translating that to a label application and in this case to commercial press or even worse the home printer - as in a label - it might lose a great deal and actually start looking cluttered, busy or just bad depending on the printer! I have customers that come to me without a clue ~ and for that they will pay more cuz it's going to take me a great deal of time to work up "models" based on their ideas. If you have something in your head, sketch it out, find an artist that is experienced in the press world so they can create something that is going to translate well to print and *this is important* not cost you tons to print - consider spot color and other means of using color in the printing that won't require full process color. If you are going for a logo then remember your artist should provide you the art in various formats and sizes for you to use. I make many logos versatile so my clients can use them in any media, make sure you ask for that of your artist - A good one will take that into consideration. Once you find an artist, ask them to give you a quote and explain all that you want the "work" to do for you. Hope that helps!
  18. I am learning new things on here, I always thought the majority of soybeans were used to feed animals? I need to study more!
  19. I think her reasoning behind giving something "special" that can't be bought is to tempt others into hosting parties to get the same "special" gift. LOL
  20. LOL - seriously I think sometimes they don't put all their stuff on the catalog. I would not find anything if it were not for the "search" feature, somehow - it all shows up there. Thanks for the heads up on the low profile ones at Bayousome, I like that look with the silver tops.
  21. Knock me down...I have always thought soybeans were a commodity? Interesting.
  22. I have a private label customer that does lots of home parties. She does 10% of the total order off "hostess" order $500 show means $50 worth of products for hostess free. She has me do "special candles" for hostess gifts and they range in value from $10 to $30 - for every party a hostess books from her party at the conclusion of that party, she gets the cooresponding gift. The caveat being the hostess must be at the resulting party to get her gift which helps promote to others the fun of having a party cuz she gets a product that is not for sale - I think she used to do home interior so from that comes many of her party ideas. She does really well.
  23. PET Plastic - try Container and Packaging www.containerandpackaging.com - item #J351 is the 2oz and #J350 is 1oz
  24. WSP has some cute ones that are not way too expensive. I have seen them in super bulk for great deals, but I have never had the opportunity to need tons of them.
