  1. I was browsing candle makers on facebook and came across a picture of some candles cooling using a device I've never seen before to secure the wick. I was wondering what it is and if any of you use them? They appear to be through the wick...
  2. When I first started making candles over two years ago now, I was so obsessed and worked daily testing, perfecting, researching, etc. My ultimate goal was to take something I enjoyed doing so much and in turn make a little extra cash. I just keep seeming to run into dead ends, for financial reasons, mainly, then wind up getting frustrated and discouraged and totally get out of my groove. I'm very much hoping that I'm not the only person that has felt this way? How do you all keep motivated, organized, and dedicated, especially on days you feel like giving up? Any pointers and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  3. Well I didn't necessarily mean extinguish it with the lid, I meant extinguish it in some manner that isn't just blowing it out. That was just a first for me in advertising, or the first time I've noticed it anyway.
  4. I purchase almost all of my oils from JBN and the only one I've been disappointed in so far was the White tea and Ginger. Their bakery scents are awesome. LOVE the Apple and Clover and their pomegranate. I've sampled a few through Taylored, wasn't very impressed at all as far as throw goes. I still shop there for other things though.
  5. And I'm trying to figure out what is supposed to be so spectacular about them?? Their appearance was nice, the jars are cute. Their votives, supposedly at 1.9 oz seem very small, and I have a hard time finding snug votive containers for the full 2oz ones. The cold throw was alright, but weren't just "blow me away strong". I didn't purchase one to get the burn experience, probably should've, but couldn't bring myself to do it. I also thought this was interesting: Never use container lid to put out candle flame. Simply blow out your soy wax candle and replace lid. I almost ALWAYS see handcrafters and big manufacturers alike recommend extinguishing the wicks, not blowing them out.
  6. I've tried all the above mentioned methods, and the best results I had when using C3 was to let them cool islowly in a preheated turned off oven. Now they still wouldn't all come out perfect, but overall, I had more success that way.
  7. I often have wondered, and could probably find out by doing a search on this board, as to how the Yankmee candles have the appearance they do, something is added there, for sure. Whether they use paraffin, or even their soy, they generally do not have smooth tops. The tops, imo, almost have a palm wax type appearance.
  8. I don't know, I use (or was using dang JBN!) the crissa tumblers which are 2.5 inches, and could get away with an eco 8 for some fragrances and a 10 for others, with the 464. Seems like the size wick you're using it way large?...
  9. I don't believe I've seen those yet, but did notice an ad insert in a magazine for G**** soy based candles now. They also have the diffusers as well.
  10. Same here, I use JBN for everything. I freaked out when I saw they would not be carrying the Crissa tumbler any longer, especially since they are so heavy. Shipping would be killer! I mellowed out though when I saw that GL carries them. It'll be a little more of a drive, but much better than shipping, I'm sure. I just hope GL keeps them...
  11. For the record, I am aware that heat rises, I've just never encountered this before with any of my other candles, not to this extent anyway. (Didn't want you guys to think I'm an idiot) I usually smell the fragrance stronger when I'm downstairs near the candle. I actually could even smell it stronger when I was in another room downstairs than I could close up. It was just weird...
  12. It just kinda baffled me. I have no fans going, my stairs lead to my computer room, which is enclosed. So it's not like there is a loft or open area. It is so strong upstairs, that I was expecting the scent to knock me in my face when I went downstairs... nope. I've just never noticed this before.
  13. I have been testing the 444 for the past few days, scented with Apple & Clover. The cold throw is excellent, no problems there. This is the crazy part... During the burn I had the candle lit downstairs in my kitchen and I'm up and down the stairs doing household chores. Well, the scent throw is pretty strong when I'm upstairs, but when I go downstairs, where the candle is located, the throw doesn't seem nearly as strong. Has anyone else ever experienced this? The farther away you are the stronger the scent is? I don't think this is just candle nose, as I am able to smell it from a distance...
  14. I haven't been able to find much about them on the boards. Does anyone use them? I am curious as to the quality of their oils. If anyone uses them, do you have any recommendations? Thanks!
  15. I made it using Aj's Beginner Goat's Milk recipe, substituted 10% OO for Castor. I used the Crock Pot Hot Process method so I totally expected the soap to be a tannish to brown color. The only little quirk that irritated me about the finished product is that I shouldn't have scraped the sides of the pot where the soap gets kinda white and crusty, as it now has white specks throughout the soap. I made it using a homemade pvc pipe mold (thank you GOD for this forum, or I'd still be trying to get that soap out!) Next time I won't scrape the sides of the pot, I just didn't want to waste any, and I need to invest in a soap cutter because my slices weren't very accurate and even. Otherwise, I'm pretty darn pleased with my first little batch of soap!
  16. I'm not sure, it seems to still read temporarily out of stock... It did on Monday too, I checked the site when I got home. I didn't notice the fine print so I don't know if that was added prior to Monday or not.
  17. Yes, I'll continue to do business with them too being as they're local to me, gotta save where I can. I've always been a satisfied customer, and before now, thought their customer service was great. Guess we shall see how things go from this point on...
  18. Yes, it is weird as it was just yesterday that I asked and was told otherwise. They have all of their scents on display in the store and no information indicating that anything had been reformulated was displayed. As I said, she verbally told me that the only issue that they've had lately, to their knowledge, was with the chestnuts and brown sugar(which currently isn't being stocked) after I told her about some of the issues you guys were having. So this really irritates me, as it makes me look unreliable I'm glad you finally received a response though. Guess the emails are showing up now?! I don't know what to think...
  19. I have been testing different wicks in the paraffin blend that I am using, RRD, CDN, and eco. I have to say, I like the performance of the eco wicks far greater than the other two. I know that eco's are recommended for veggie waxes, but the results I am getting are just excellent. Does anyone else use eco's in their paraffin?
  20. Well I went to JBN today and told them the issues that people were having here on the board. She said they were having internet issues a couple of weeks back, but was certain that it was all taken care of. Of course she said she checks emails all day every day, as much of their business is done online, so... I asked if any of their scents had recently been reformulated, and she said no. The only scent that she said has been quirky as of late is the chestnuts and brown sugar which they are not selling at this time until it gets resolved. I smelled the BRV and it still smells the same OOB to me. So I hope you all can get your communication issues worked out. They are going to check everything out and make sure she hadn't missed anything, she was very upset to think she would be missing emails. Just thought I'd let y'all know.
  21. Does anyone else have a problem with getting these on, even after poking a hole in the cap? For some reason, I can get some on with no issue, then others are hard to get on snugly. One side will be on, the other will not be flush, and the more I press down a side will crimp. That is the type issue that I am referring to. Does anyone know of any type of disc that actually fits down into the tumbler as opposed to the traditional cap/lids? Thanks!
  22. You still haven't poured the scents then to see what the results were in the wax? Let us know how the PP works out. I just can't believe the slow turnaround time. I've always had nothing but great customer service through them. I just can't imagine what's going on...
