  1. Yes, I am aware of the search feature, but honestly was trying to get a quick answer as I was trying to rush out.
  2. For those of you that use USA in your container candles, do you also use coconut oil, or just one or the other? Thanks!
  3. I have actually had a candle run over onto my carpet before. I waited until the wax dried and hardened, got a paper sack, and iron on a low setting and went to town. It worked! If there is anything left over, try a spot remover on that.
  4. I keep cooling mine covered with a cardboard box and I can't get rid of them either! We're running our heat, so it's not cold or drafty(I've been running my heat just FOR candles lol) I've washed out the inside of my jars as recommended on the board with dawn. I'm using C3, not the wax you're using and I'm about to go nuts. I'll have some out of the same batch, under the same box, turn out way worse than the others. I just don't know.....
  5. I do have a scale, I was just going by the suppliers advice, there. I am new to the whole process, so that gets me off the hook I'm so glad this board is here....
  6. When I ordered my candle making kit from JBN, it came with a measuring shot glass that says fill to the top for a full 4oz, but, that you can also use to weigh FO with as well. Should I NOT use it as a measuring tool as it states that I can?
  7. I just noticed that JBN has 8oz mason jars so I'll have to give them a try. When I called to ask about wicking for them, they recommended I go up one to the RRD - 47. I may give the CDN's a try also, I've never used them at all so I'll have to figure out what size to go with there. Guess I'll be making a trip to JBN on Monday! Thanks for all the tips guys!
  8. I never would've thought to use the box the jars came in to heat them in. That's a really good idea! But now this leads me to another question. I've seen posts saying that some people actually let their candles cool in a warmed oven turned off, what do they have their candles on? Just the oven rack? I'm certain that I didn't overheat the jars, as I could handle them by hand with no protection. Now, I did have them on a cookie sheet to heat, because it is just easier to get them in and out that way... I didn't know any better I don't guess.... Live and learn, I suppose
  9. NO, I bought them brand new, never used them prior for anything. I have two candles burning now from the same lot of glass, no problems with them so far....
  10. I turn my oven on to 170( which is the lowest it will go) then turn it off and put the jars in. I only leave them in for a couple of minutes and make sure they are warm to the touch when I remove them. The cracking is on the side of the glass, horizontally. It was 2 out of a dozen that cracked. I'm pouring at about 155, definitely not too hot. So, I just don't know.....
  11. They're 8 oz jelly jars from JBN. I called to ask them about it and to let them know, which they said they've never heard of that happening before. Of course, they said this time of year the jars need to be warmed, which, I told them I did. So.... guess maybe it's just a weird fluke thing...
  12. I've had two jars crack this week after pouring. I'm pouring other candles at the same time, same temps, same amount, etc. I heat my jars prior to pouring. Is this just one of those things that happen sometimes, or is it something I may be doing? Thanks!
  13. Wanna hear something bad?? I go to JBN once a week, buy more supplies, but can't manage to quit reading long enough to make candles!! I'm so trying to sink in all the information that I can, that I'm not utilizing my time into making and testing! I keep scolding myself everyday.... but this forum is almost MORE addicting!
  14. My scale is definitely OFF! I am going to get a new one today. I thought I was losing my mind when I'd measure up and weigh, melt, and not have enough. I was wondering if I needed my eyes checked :undecided I knew something wasn't right. Thanks guys!
  15. OK, I'm sold on wanting to try this out. After you reheat, and before you pour, are you looking more for a certain consistency or an actual temperature range -- if that makes sense?.... I'm gonna try both tempering and seeding, I know it's the same concept different methods, but thought I'd play around with it.
  16. Thanks for the responses. Stella, I just wanted to add, that in most of my searches for answers, your posts are there! You give great info. Thank you for giving advice and tips, I know other newbies like myself appreciate it greatly
  17. I've been considering NOT using dyes in my candles, but I've wondered whether(down the line) they would market and sell well?
  18. When I'm measuring up 1lb of wax to make 2 8oz candles, when melted down, it's not nearly enough. How much wax do you melt at a time to equate?
  19. Please keep in mind that I'm a total newbie before you laugh at me I plan on getting a heat gun this evening, preferrably cheap, just good enough to do the trick. What temp heat gun do you all use, and when you all say "hit the tops" does it literally just take a second on the top to smooth out imperfections? I'm so afraid of ruining my candles, starting a fire, or causing bodily injury to someone lol I think the one I saw at Walmart the other day started out at 750..is that too hot? It may have been less, I don't remember... Thanks for the input! Jennifer
  20. I've read up quite a bit on this forum, and I'm confused(not hard to do) as to what temp people are pouring their C3. I use 1tsp CO pp, UA, 1 oz FO pp...I'm planning on getting the USA now. When I made my first two candles(8oz jelly/RRD 40 wicks) I thought they turned out pretty good. No sinking or cracks. Last night I made another 2lbs, and almost all have a sink hole with some wet spots. I melt the wax to 175, add FO/dye, then pour at 160/165 as recommended by the supplier. I also preheated my jars in the oven. Could they have cooled too fast? Should I try the cardboard box method? What temp do you recommend pouring at? Thanks so much! Jennifer
