Mine wrote but they melted so fast. I used melt and pour and added beeswax hoping to firm them up. But they didnt last long at all. They were dark, I used a lot of mica and FD&C to make them to where they would write on the side of the tub, maybe I used too much. I also added scent and probably shouldn't have.

I made some of these for my Grandson and used heavy construction paper the same colors for the labels as the crayons were. I made blue, red, green, yellow and purple. I colored the crayons with oxides and FD&C coloring, they were dark and wrote (marked) well. They melted pretty fast. I don't know why, maybe I should have used more beeswax I don't know. I used blue paper (not blue ink) with this one. I put them in a small plactic bag and made a label that was the width of the bag folded it over and stapled it shut.

I made these last week, they are 40% Organic African Red Palm oil. I scented them with Peach Magnolia Raspberry, yummy! I made 20 bars in my TOG divider mold. I love the natural color from the red palm oil. I made them in my TOG 20/40 bar divider mold. I only made 20 but I poured them kind of thick.

I used it at 40% (room temp) on Thursday night and it turned out well. As soon as I poured the lye water, it thickend but still used the stick blender for about a minute until it traced. I held my breath while adding the FO but it did well. I used Peach Magnolia Raspberry from tncandlesupply. As soon as my daughter brings the battery for the camera home, I will post a picture in the gallery.

Thanks for the fast reply. It's for a muscle rub balm and has several eo's in it. So I guess I should list them all.

I know the label has to have a list of ingredents in decending order but if you use several essential oils do you have to list them all? Or can you just say "Essential oils" ?

A lot of people like it. And I don't scent it. I started making it for a boy I work with that has psoriasis, and it has cleared it up. His dad had a rash and was using a prescription cream from the doctor and it wasn't helping much. He used the pine tar soap one time and it cleared it up. LOL it looks just like a nice creamy fudge in the pot but sure don't smell like it. I melt my oils, add the lye and stir with a spoon. It only takes a few minutes to trace. A stick blender would be too much I think. My grandson has excema and I have found that using any home made soap has helped him. His excema has cleared up and hasn't been back. That is with using different recipes, and scents. The one thing I always do is use castor oil in my soaps. Before I made soap I was buying it, all kifferent kinds and scents, and it cleared him up. I have read not to use scents and use gentle soap for excema but from my own experience, as I said any home made soap works for him.

The recipe says 4.11 oz of lye and if you used 4.11 then you used to much lye, not to little. If it should have been 4.7 It will be lye heavy. Did you superfat it? It might be OK

I made my first batch last week and it looked just like fudge, but sure didn't smell like it LOL I used it at 20% - the lady that I bought the pine tar from also sent me a bar she made in October, I really liked the way it smelled (at 4 months old). I can walk past the shelf where it is curing and don't smell it now, so it is mellowing.

Don't feel bad I might have asked the same question. Because I don't have metal pipes, I have PVC pipes. I heard lye was not good for them. And would eat through them, don't know if it's true or not.

If you will replace 1/2 of your corn starch with kaolin clay it will help with the cracking. The last time I made them, I set them on freezer paper but put a folded up towel under the paper for padding and they didn't come out with a flat spot on them. I have two snow ballers that I got from e-bay and I hate them, they are to bulky to work with and your would really have to have a lot of mixture in a deep bowl for them to work. My grandson is getting them to play in the snow with. I love the plastic 2 part ornament molds from Coastal Scents they are so much faster to work with. At least they are for me.
