  1. Thanks bee and Beth - I am going to go ahead and get them both - and thanks also Beth for the idea of going ahead and registering the name in my state - hadn't thought about that - will be checking into that also Terrie as far as the VP Candles is concerned - How could I ever live up to that name? I mean that would really take a Master Chandler to do that one justice LMAO
  2. I am a long way from ever selling anything (and who knows - I may never do so) But I thought of a name that could be used for a business, and would be a good one for the "style" I would go for if I ever decide go that far - So I thought about going ahead and registering the name now just in case I ever do decide to go further - while it is still available I checked and the name is available as a domain name - Both .com and .net are available - So my question is this Should I register both the .com and .net versions to keep anyone else from taking the .net if I ever get to the point of selling and actually building up the name? Or do I just go for the .com and not worry about the .net? Domain registration is relatively inexpensive and of course you can have both versions pointing to the same site - but would it be worth it to even bother? I know this is all very premature, I don't feel comfortable even giving anything away yet and here I am thinking about building up to not just selling but actually getting to the point of someone wanting to try and ride my coat tails so to speak - but if you are going to dream, dream big right? TIA for your opinions
  3. LOL! Getting the munchies yet?
  4. Edited because the post I was replying to has been deleted
  5. So sorry this happened to you - You did have a great idea but I would bet that even if you had kept this to yourself and managed to get this out there on your own you wouldn't have had it all to yourself for long before others came up with dupes - Look at all the dupes that are out there already of established fragrances
  6. Try here - I found several hits when I typed in Cashmere http://www.scentforum.com/ (The Fragrance Finder had "exceeded it's allocated data transfer")
  7. Well I will tell you none of them are mine! My candles are best described as being "Kind" candles still (the "kind" of candles a one-eyed crack addict monkey might make)
  8. LMAOOO I guess for non-hunters, it seems very strange indeed! Grew up a country boy and hunting filled the freezer and my ex-wife had a cousin who raised a herd of deer and is a natural scent manufacturer so I know just a bit about this So - I will cover a few things There are several categories of scents for hunters - the basic ones are the Attractants such as doe-in-heat (I am sure you know why this attracts) , Rutting Buck (Makes a buck think he has "competition" and comes to see if the competition is bigger than him) and food scents (such as honeysuckle, acorns, persimmon, appleblossom, etc) - And you wouldn't want to put these on your person because the deer is searching for the source of the scent and if he sees you before you see him you simply won't see him - these are generally placed away from the hunter but in a spot he/she can see The other category of scents are cover scents - to try and mask the human odor - these are those such as the red fox pee (The thought being that not only will these scents help mask human odors, but also using scents from such animals because they "belong there") These are placed directly on the hunter Heating scents, as we know from candles, can result in a better hot throw and spread the scent further - thus the use in candles or candle warmer type products - And no, I don't think these would be used much around the deer camp, but rather out in the woods themselves while hunting - I had never seen or even heard of a candle using these scents but have heard of warmer type products to get a hot throw A side note - before anyone runs and starts a new "Hunter's Line" of candles - the proper use of scents in hunting can help a hunter - but using scents the wrong way or using the wrong scents at the wrong time will gaurantee that you scare off the game you are trying to attract - which wouldn't exactly do much for your sales lol - Plus it has to be a natural scent - what smells like honeysuckle in a candle to us won't neccessarily smell that way to a deer Like chandlers, hunting scent manufacturers spend a lot of time and money on research and developement - it is a HUGE business!
  9. (sputters) but, but, but . . . I haven't caught up with all the others I am trying to test already! mutters and mumbles incoherently as he wanders off to see what else he can add to the order from Peak's so as not to just buy one bottle of FO . . . . . .
  10. As far as FO's go - it's very hard to go wrong with Peak's - there are a number of great suppliers out there but even more who aren't so great so it's understandable that you are leery on that point - Here's a link to the Fragrance discussion thread where people comment on suppliers and specific scents - http://www.candletech.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=28 Welcome to the boards!
  11. LMAOOOO!!!!!!! yes'm Ms. Moo I am - I know it's hard to tell with me hiding behind those shades in my av . . . . . . . .
  12. OK - maybe I'm wrong here (it happens a lot ya know!) Before I posted my original response I read the original post which I have pasted above and I assumed a few things from what I read It seemed to me from the post she had never made a wickless candle nor a wicked one before as she is asking the Q's she asked - what wax, what jar, cure time and even where to buy a kit from asking How much to charge for something when you have never made it before and do not even know where to start is getting just a wee bit ahead of yourself in my opinion Again, I am pretty much of a newbie myself so I will definately bow to the experience here on the board in most everything But it just seems strange to me as new as I am that I am seeing people wanting to sell before they even begin to make - There are even people here putting up websites to sell candles who are a LOT newer than me I dunno - it just isn't something I would personaly do And nope - I am still not even going to GIVE AWAY anything I make - including tarts or wickless candles before I have tested, tested and tested some more and have convinced myself that not only is it completely safe but that it is the very best I can possibly make That's just me though
  13. Almost every place I know of that carries wax have either 10 lb or 11 lb slabs or bags (depending on what type of wax it is) - but here's one I did find that sells smaller amounts Keefers Kandles - http://www.keeferskandlesandsupplies.com/ I have never ordered anything from them so know nothing about them other than their prices on the larger amounts (cases) is a bit higher than others I have found HTH
  14. Enter Impulse Sealer into the search box - It returns 3 of them http://order.harborfreight.com/EasyAsk/harborfreight/results.jsp?dct=harbor&indexed=1
  15. As far as how much you should charge for them - my suggestion would be NOTHING - not for a long time anyway I won't even give mine to anyone yet much less sell them - even tarts or wickless - I am nowhere near the point where where I feel I could begin to sell - It will take you quite a lot of work and a lot of testing before you are able to turn out a candle that is SAFE and of a quality to be sold Some may disagree with me, but my personal opinion is that even wickless or tarts aren't just buy some wax and add FO and start selling
  16. Lone Star offers a Master Wick Sampler Kit Included in the kit are 5 samples of every single wick they carry - a total of 280 wicks http://www.lonestarcandlesupply.com/wicks.html#MasterKit
  17. Check the Fragrances thread - lot of discussion on scents and suppliers there http://www.candletech.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=28
  18. Maybe we are using different versions of IE? I dunno - I promise "Import and Export" is there on mine
  19. Another lil' tip - you should occasionally resave this so that favorites you add after your first "save" won't be lost - when you export like above all to the same place it will overwrite the old one with the new one and any changes and new favs will be added
  20. My pleasure! And yes - when my puter crashed a few weeks back and I had to replace my HD I had em' backed up thankfully!
  21. This is what I do - hopefully the same will work for you (And hopefully you can understand my lame attempt at giving directions!) In IE at the top of your browser click on File Then choose Import and Export Click Next then choose Export Favorites Highlight your Favorites Folder (Called Favorites - at least mine is) Click Next Choose a folder to place it in - Click Next Click Finish You now have a page with links to all your Favorites you can print out A good idea to back this up somewhere (Burn to a disk or whatever) If you have a crash you don't want to lose all these!
  22. Try here - http://www.wickmanproducts.com/wholesale.htm hth
