  1. Did they ask for a discount? Don't give them one if they don't ask or expect one. Maybe give a few extra or make a thank you gift for the office emplyees.
  2. A weird question, but looking for horse related scents. Thinking: Leather Sweet Feed Fresh Mown Hay Clover Any other suggestions or preferred suppliers would be appreciated.
  3. Deciding to give unity candles a try, as going to try my hand at doing a local wedding show. Any ideas on designs and stuff and where to get the holders?
  4. If anyone has done this on a large scale...like 50,000-100,000 candles or more on a regular basis, please PM me. THANKS
  5. I am looking for a wax that is at least 50% soy to do intricately carved intitals in pillar candles. The company uses 3% fragrance load and a cotton wick.
  6. Thanks, but none have the sizes I'm lookingfor, already checked them out.
  7. My supplier is out until the end of October.... I need large amounts ( a few thousand of each)of the following: C0 2.5X2.5X9 c2 4X2.5X9.5 C7 6X3.25X13.5 I searched everyway, and can't find them in the right price or has all 3. Anyone have a suggestion? East Coast supplier preferred.
  8. Got my KY Icy Peppermint in today. Smells up the whole place. Thanks for the referrel.
  9. Are there any craft malls around, that you can make a mini store, or maybe rent part of seomones store who has some extra space. Maybe a small ghair salon would be willing to rent you space. Call your local Chamber and see if there is any other people looking for space too you could share. They might be able to tell you of any upcoming space that isn't on the market yet. My old building never went of for rent as word got around and was rented before we were out. I was denied my first loan too. Retail is High Risk, especially if you can't show any real collatoral. I ended up using my mothers c/c to start the business, and here I am 5 yrs later with 3 businesses, and would love to start a 4th.
  10. i suggest adding a tag with cord or fabric on the lip. Or add a circle label on top. I haven't seen them labeled with stickers before.
  11. Anyone know who has one that is clear, not yellow, so i can achive a white candle?
  12. Read through the postings, that is what they are here for. Everyone has their own expereinces and tastes in products. You will never have the same results as the person beforehand. Read the listings of suppliers off to your left under community for direct links.
  13. I've been getting mine from the dollar tree. They have the same style in round and oval, and have had them for quite a while now, and apparantly you can order them too! They are in light and dark stain and have leater handles. May be worth checking them out.
  14. Freud Container has them, they are on sale right now.
  15. I went to an SBDC lunch gathering for small businees owners and talked to a lady at my table and ask me about embroidering on candles for her son's wedding(she has an emBroidery business). I was a little confused. But she claimed she did this on SOAP. What? Whe explained the process a little, but was not quite understanding the process and used a special mesh fabric. She's going to call me later about it. Anyone heard of doing this or have done this? Maybe a new product happening....
  16. You can get silicone cookie sheets at wal-mart for a couple bucks, maybe they would work.
  17. A little off target on the products, but here are some other suggestions...You also want to look at the things that cost you money, but you don't make any money on. Like fixtures. make them yourself or buy unfinished ones and paint them yourself. Bags, I can easily put 300-400 out in bags in one shot. I have seperate bags for large purchases and crappy bags for $1-$5 sales. Cash Register...you don't really need one. maybe a cash drawer and a sales book, thats how I started. Credit Card machine..you need one, but try ebay, a $40 one that breaks after 6 mos is better than a new one costing you $50 a month for 2-3 years. Signage...I know someone who paid $4000 for a sign inlaid with gold...OOB in 9 mos. I paid $50 for the amterials and painted it myself...I'm still; in business, but on my 3rd sign (total going at ...$125) ways to stretch mdse...buy big baskets and fill with tissue paper or a towel or somthing like that and display them in there. Build long skiniy display units that are only 2-3 items deep. Have big display pieces like a tub filled with plastic round clear ornaments to look like bubbles and put in a few items. Fill giant empty containers with bath realted items, towels, washboards, fake soaps(made out of cardboard) Just think of things to stretch your store and make it look full, you make the product, so you can restock daily.
  18. Be careful, as candlemaking is high risk for many insurance compnaies, and many landloards are leary of taking chandlers on. I would suggest renting a garage or somekind of thing like that. Something like a 2-3 bay garage would be big enough. Maybe a beighbor has one to rent. Maybe then you would not need liability insurance. Do you have room on your porerty? A freiend of mine put in a small storage shed and poured in there, and then just added another one a few years later as he grew.
  19. A show i do, has a best of show contest. Who ever has the most appealing booth, gets a free booth next year. Every year we try to compete, still trying for it, then again the booth is worth $1000 so we try pretty hard, and so does everyone else.
  20. Since they don't make my whitner anymore, I tried some tit. Dioxide from C&S which they said would be ok for candlemaking, just using it for tarts. Anyway it won't mix together. Any suggestions?
  21. You expect it out of your employees, which I have them all sign, but never though of something like this. Can't have customers sign them, no worries, they are not as nice, and are more expensive. And the other company, tthey were given one of my catalogs and copied, so not much you can do there. but hey, I have MY creativity, which know one can steal, just makes me a better thinker now!! The brain is storming with new ideas.
  22. Sales Reps SUCK!!! Just had one stab me in the back and brought in a new company that mysteriously looks like mine and has the same scents.....and dropped me and stole my merchandise out of my booth. We've been fighting over $$ that she claims I owe her. Then also go to find out a customer of mine is now selling the exact same items wholesale. Is there no creativity out there??? Must you copy everything to the Tee? Fortunately for me I had an EXCELLENT show and the customers came to me and said...it took us a while...but we knew it wasn't you, and found me. And they said how they never cared for us and glad we are not with them anymore. So now lawsuits are pending withth rep and me, and found out she has done this to others as well, Making a few contacts and potentially joining up with another cusotmers that is suing her for $100k and trying to put here out of business. No more reps.....I'm done with lying knieving greedy vampires
  23. Don't do the squeeze bottles....I lost an outfit and quite a few candles that way. i squeezed a little to hard and the cap blew off and RED dye EVERYWHERE!! Its easier just to replace the droppers.
  24. Go to an actual insurance broker and they should be able to find something. Brokers have many different avenues to look at. Also, try calling another candle maker in your area/state and ask who they use.
