  1. I'm done with turkey fryers. I think I might have gotten a dud, because I went through 3 liners in one year. Each one bowed so bad that the element would not fit into the slot in the back. I too found a commercial on Craigslist. I went to google and put in "Craigslist wax melter". This will search all the craigslists across the country. Even though the one I found was five hours away, the owner graciously shipped it to me for only $25 shipping charge. So, give google a try!!! Good luck! Nancy
  2. I called my local recycling office. The lady there was very helpful. They have sites that have attendents at them. One of the attendents actually pulled them and put them aside for me - focusing on the clean ones. She was thrilled that they were going to be reused!
  3. www.shopcwi.com or www.fencerowcrafts.com Both are good sources.
  4. Thanks for bringing that up. I will call Candles and supplies tomorrow to check.
  5. I found a used one for $300. It's a 50 lb. melter that was purchased from Candles and Supplies about 3 years ago. From what I'm reading this is a good deal, yes? I hope the shipping isn't going to be outrageous.
  6. I am fed up with my turkey fryer as I am now on my third liner this year - they keep bowing. I"m looking to purchase a wax melter and would appreciate any advice regarding water jacketed vs. direct heat melters. What are the pros and cons of each?
  7. Yes! I do it all the time. Spray your cookie sheet and your cutter with Pam. it takes awhile to figure out just when to cut the shapes. If the wax is too cool, it's a pain to cut - too warm and they fall apart. But you'll get the hang of it quickly! Have fun!
  8. I get them at Staples. Nancy
  9. www.foxruncraftsmen.com Search for pixie bun pan. They also have great prices on tart molds. Nancy
  10. www.rustytin.com has them in their misc. section - about halfway down the page. They have 1 1/4" and 3" . Nancy
  11. I am a huge fan of Craigslist and check it daily. Hopefully, I can come across a good deal on a melter. An update to the turkey fryer - I talked with the nice folks at Masterbuilt today and they are shipping me a new liner ($24.99). Well worth it. Turkey fryers are nowhere to be found in my area. Masterbuilt is coming out with a new design - a square model - that should be in stores soon. Thanks to everyone for your help! Nancy

  13. I love the turkey fryer. I have several presto pots, but I need something bigger. I'll look for one that is all one piece. This is an older model that I bought from someone so maybe a newer one will be better.
  14. I never thought of that. I know some folks use these a lot. But the oil that is used to fry a turkey is a lot hotter than my wax. And, I don't use mine nearly as much as some folks who use theirs daily. I will look into the water jacketed melters though as my business is growing. Do you have any suggestiong as to brands and places to buy? Nancy
  15. It's a Masterbuilt. Your inside doesn't lift out?
  16. My turkey fryer is acting very strangely. The other day the lights came on when I turned in on but after a little while, they went off. I thought it broke. So I did some jiggling and they came back on and the wax began to melt. Not sure if this is related to anything or not, but all of a sudden I heard this hissing sound and fine particles of wax were spewing everywhere. I think there was a bubble in the center of the wax that popped when it started to melt. So, I finished my pouring and life was good. Today I turned it on and the same thing happened, lights went off soon after I turned it on. Then I noticed that the inside of the kettle would not sit flush with the the top of the outside layer. The bottom of the liner was touching the plastic outside portion of the kettle but there is about two inches of the metal showing at the top. Why won't it sit flush? Honestly, it looks like it has grown or changed shape or something. I can't get the grooves to go all the way to the bottom in the back of the kettle (the part that is connected to the heating element). So any slight movement, the lights go off. What have I done? Why won't this fit properly? Also, the pouring spout sticks out so far that I had to remove the cover. How is it possible that the inside doesn't fit? I've only been using it since the beginning of the year. Can anyone help? Gee, I hope this makes sense. This is just so strange. Nancy
  17. I also use 4794. There are a few oils that I've had that just won't blend with it no matter what. I just move onto something else. It's not worth the trouble. I've tried hotter wax, stirring longer, heating oils, everything. I get this with my cinnamon bun and a couple of others.
  18. I use the 5 oz. dixie cups. Just pour the oil in the cup and then squeeze it a bit to form a spout.
  19. Can someone tell me about how long it takes for the melt and pour soaps to set up in silicone molds? How soon can you remove them? I'd like to try some but not sure if it would be worth it if it takes too long to set up. Nancy
  20. Will an electric roaster keep pots of wax at a hot enough temperature for pouring? I'm currently using a hot plate but need to have several pots ready to pour at the same time. It takes forever waiting for each pot to melt using my method!
  21. WOW! That is a deal of a lifetime!!! Congratulations! Nancy
  22. Hi Michele, I'm a prim crafter. I sell my wares wholesale - dolls, bowl fillers and other goodies. I just added the melts, rosehip blends last fall. You can see my things on my site at www.barncatmercantile.com Glad to meet another prim lover! Nancy
  23. I've been making tarts for about a year now and have learned so much from the folks on this board. I purchased a turkey fryer from a member here awhile back and finally got enough nerve to fire it up last night. Previously I"ve been using presto pots. OMG, I don't know how I lived without this thing. I can't believe how much time and mess this saves me. I really appreciate everyone's helpfulness here. I THINK I"m even starting to get the bug to begin making candles - something I never thought I'd do. Nancy
