  1. Ditto. And also there are different methods pourers are using - adding FO at 180 or at 135-just before pouring. These temperature variations can easily affect oil incorporation and subsequent "throw".
  2. Is this the Feather Palm from Candle Science - or another supplier?
  3. I'd love to know the test results! Never used them - too afraid of their "rating" system and the extra $$$$ it may take to get a good throw.
  4. I have dealt with Bert (BYRD) for quite a while. She has always delivered as promised and has a variety of aromas. I've purchased a lot but haven't had the chance to test many - so hesitate in making any FO recommendations...but you've got to try the Coolwater. Awesome throw! (I'm using CB-135 soy so it should work with the 464.) Just came back from her Ebay store. She's got her summer sale going. Be sure to check out the titles (for soap & candles, or just candles). She's added new ones lately! Flat rate shipping is an added plus. I feel confident dealing with her!
  5. I blend my own EcoSoy for clamshells. 25% pillar & 75% container. Works great for me. I started out with a 50/50 blend and adjusted from there.
  6. I've never tried mixing the two for a container candle. I have found that I can mix the two (25% pillar & 75% container) for melts - and it works great!
  7. Have amassed a bunch of 1 oz testers and have a few "winners". The ones from Candle Science will be OK since they supply the glass bottles with the 8 & 16 oz oils. But the other FO suppliers seem to ship only in the thin white plastic - and some of the 16 oz'ers are already "denting". Want to protect my investment (like many of you). I am curious about the brown plastic bottles that are available...any experience with them? Or is glass the only way to go? Which supplier has the most reasonable prices? I'd prefer to deal with someone on the East Coast - to keep the shipping costs down. TIA, Judy
  8. It should be obvious if it is oil...the puddle will be liquid. Just set it aside for a few minutes and let it cool. If it is soild it's just extra wax/oil mix. It suprised me the first timeit happened! Had carefully measured and had extra left . Then I remembered that the oil is sold based on weight - not volume. I started out with a "heavy" oil with not much volume. The next pours were with a lighter (read less dense) oil...and that's when I got the excess. So if you went from a Brulee to a "light" like an apple you may get a little more volume which would show up in the bottom of the pot...and nothing to owrry about. Plus there is never perfection in anything in life - and that includes jar manufacturing. Sometimes jars from one mold are a little thinner than another. I've had a variation of up to .2 oz on the jars from the same case! Hope I'm explaining it correctly and it helps.
  9. ...8...9...10. OK, breath. Now just a little more info please. What kind of puddle is in the bottom of the pot? Oil or extra wax? Or is the puddle forming on the bottom of the container? How much oil are you loading into the 6oz of wax? What kind of wax are you using? It could be as you suspect - too much oil - but the other info will be helpful in helping to figure this one out.
  10. Great news! Now I'll add my oils and see what happens! Thanks for posting.
  11. I've only been able to test one aroma in Palm, Soy and Palm/Soy mix that had different results. It did not throw in the Palm, did throw in the Soy and Palm/soy. It appears that the more soy you mix in the longer it takes to cure. I'd back off to 10% soy and see how that affects the throw time.
  12. Just got some more supplies from them this afternoon. It's so nice to work with them...and I love the way they are always searching and testing - for the best oils and new products (like the Glass Glow). Yes, I'm a little biased because I'm in North Carolina, too. But I just think I'm lucky to be so close!
  13. Hi! I make my Calmshell's in soy with the wax I have on hand...and I think this may be a useful formula for any brand. Just use 75% of your container wax with 25% of the pillar wax. My friend doesn't have pillar wax so she just adds a teaspoon of Bee's Wax to a pound of container wax and pours into the calmshell.
  14. Yes, the only sale I saw in the past 6 months was the 99 cent samples. But I went back and checked their site. There are only 4 oils that are over $15 per pound - and the rest are under. Many are around $14. IMHO, I think they keep all their prices reasonable and their quality standards high. And I don't pay extra for the quick & reasonable shipping and great customer service or the soy rating "leaves". So I don't expect to see many "Sales" from them. OK with me because it seems their profits are going to bring in newer products - like the new aromas. Granted, some people don't like paying for shipping oils in the amber bottles...but I know it's the best way to store them AND I know I'm either too lazy or "thrifty" to buy them on my own!
  15. Please add Bunchberry & Moss under Candle Cocoon.
  16. Ditto on Late Night's comment about the long download time for us on dial-up. I tend to click off if it's loading too slow.
  17. Just as a rule of thumb for me if it says vanilla - and I can smell the vanilla in a blend (Cinnilla, Cranberry vanilla) I'll start off with the larger wick...and wick down after the test burn. Hasn't happened often though.
  18. Just checked the Sticky (Works with Palm) under the Vegetable wax section and saw there were no entries. I'll probably order some that are listed as STRONG from the "for Soy" thread so I can post the results. I want to avoid duplicating aroma tests...so..has anyone tested JS oils in palm and what were the results? Thanks, Judy
  19. Thanks - Did the search and got distracted by all the "temper" searches that came up relating to temper tantrums. What a riot they are! Check it out! There were 2 threads listed. The first one (Pg 19) only gives the last page relating to the 464. The other one was further down on the search results page and has all 19 pages about the 464 - looks like it contains all the background info. Got through 3 pages and saved the rest for tomorrow. Thank goodness for people like you with good memories and interprative skills. I've heard of tempered steel and tempering candy - never even crossed my mind it could/would apply to wax. Thanks again, :highfive:
  20. I travel back & forth between Illinois & North Carolina. Before leaving IL last time I poured the melted soy (can't remember 444/464/CB135???) from the Presto pot into some covered containers. Returned after 2 months and made some testers with wax out of the rest of the bag (oops - threw the bag away) ...had my typical frosting and the cottage cheese top which is no big deal for me. Needed to make more testers so grabbed the pre-melted wax. Made more JJ's with 6 different oils and colors. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The "cheesy-ness" on the top decreased by 80% and just a little powdery frosting on about 5% the top. None that I could see on the sides. Anyone else have this type of experience? Getting ready to leave again and thinking of ordering & pre-melting a whole bag and letting it sit!
  21. I need to express my appreciation, too. Besides getting the great information there are those who can express their frustrations in a humorous way. Even if you're ready to give it all up - someone will lighten up the mood, settle you down, and get you back in perspective. THANKS FOR THAT all you joksters!
  22. Vicky, The link for Peak Candle Supply (PCS) is www.peakcandle.com , and Green Leaf (GL) is www.greenleafcandlesupply.com . I see that people should PM you directly to add more fragrances to the sticky AND they should also provide the link if the supplier is not already listed.
  23. Oh, JOY; SWEET JOY!!! If you go to the Vegetable section you will see that we now have a Sticky! OK, everyone together now: 1, 2, THANK YOU VICKY!!! You can make magic happen!
