  1. If my GM soaps don't gel then they are way softer than a gelled soap - same recipe. I leave them in the mold longer but I have decided to just embrace the tan and not worry about not gelling my GM soap.
  2. I use raw fresh goat milk in soap. I pasteurize for lotion. As hot as my lye solution and gelled soap gets, I do not understand the need for an extra step. I have a LOT of goat milk and do not pasteurize any of it. We use it raw in the house and for cheese and soap. I also searched but found nothing to substantiate pasteurizing goat milk for soap. If you can put pumpkin, carrots and cucumbers in soap, why not raw milk?
  3. I use 100% goat milk for the liquid and have had some not gel but most gel. In the slab mold they are lighter even if they gel. No need to cover or insulate. Learned that the hard way. 100% Goat milk soap gets way too hot if covered. If the soap does not gel, it is much softer and has to stay in the mold longer. At least that has been my experience. I have decided to embrace the tan color.
  4. Goat Milk is naturally homogenized. Do you mean pasteurized??
  5. I freeze my goat milk in quart yogurt containers and the plastic containers that my shortening (48 oz) comes in. I bought a small chest freezer just for goat milk and these containers stack neatly and I can put a lot of them in the little freezer. At one point I weighed the milk and labeled the container but I have gotten lazy and just fill her up and freeze. I let the frozen container sit on the counter for awhile when it is time to soap and it will dump out into my plastic bucket easily. I then add a little cold goat milk to get the exact weight for my batch of soap and I am good to go.
  6. I had never seen this site before. Thanks for the info. The only thing - it says they are not accepting new clients at this time. Nice site though.
  7. I hear the same thing. Do you have a website? And I do but rarely ever get any traffic from my craft show folks. Maybe the shipping scares them off. BUT I also have a store on etsy.com which gets way more sales than my website and I haven't pushed it at all. I like etsy since it is all set up with a cart and I don't have to worry about that end. My actual website is more of a catalog now but maybe in the future I will expand it.
  8. I bought a wire rack on wheels from Sam's that has 6 shelves. Each shelf will hold 600 pounds so I load it up. It is on wheels too so I can move it around. I only have one and it is full so I need to buy another. I love it but it does take up some room. I have a dedicated soaping area so I have the room.
  9. Read the Welcome on their website. It makes no sense. Apparently English is a second language. Plus I do not like having to call or email for prices. I want to know how much up front.
  10. I do not make candles but I make soap. After investigating the cost of candle supplies (even without FO which I have a lot of) it was way more than I wanted to spend to expand. Then the testing. There isn't a candle maker in my area but I have so much invested in soap supplies I cannot justify learning how to make candles on my own. I would consider it if I had a mentor. IT IS NOT A CHEAP VENTURE.
  11. The last time I used Fusion Magic was in November. I picked up a malibu of that lotion yesterday and discovered that it had separated. White liquid and white lotion. Hope everyone I gave that to used it quickly. I only used the fusion magic because I ran out of ewax and BTMS50. I am offically never using fusion magic again. I have always had pilling but the separation surprised me.
  12. I have an Excursion and it holds everything I need but they don't make them anymore. I use 6 foot tables and they fit just fine along with everything else.
  13. I am not sure I understand your statement, "I will also collect tax from her at that time." If you are selling to her wholesale wouldn't she collect the retail sales tax? or were you referring to selling to her retail?
  14. She has a little booklet that some suppliers sell but off hand I do not know which ones.
  15. I also had to change a setting so I would not get emails everytime someone posted. And I like both CF's method and Snowdritt farms. I have had excellent results with SDF method. No separation ever so it can work. Just have to keep stickblending way past what you think is trace. It is a different consistency. For like a salve than fluffy looking. Used it to make a mechanic's soap with added pumice. Working well.
  16. I use my own fresh goat milk andf I have way more than I can freeze in ice cube trays. I have a standard recipe and I know how many ounces I need for each time I soap. I freeze my milk in qt. yogurt containers. I then pop a container in the microwave to loosen it up a bit and dump the frozen chunk of milk in my bucket and then proceed with the lye addition. Easy and it works for me. Glad you found some "real" goat milk. By that I mean fresh, whole unadulterated. Makes GREAT soap You will like it.
  17. Very pretty. It looks snow white in the picture. It is very hard to get it thin enough for malibus without it separating. I have worked long and hard on that but I do have some in malibus being tested. I added collodial oatmeal for a facial soap and so far everyone is liking it, myself included. I love making cream soap but am having a hard time with consistency for a finished product. I had better luck making a sugar scrub. That worked easily but I really want the facial soap in malibus to work. It should not be so hard to get the consistency right but it is hard.
  18. ExtasyPung - I believe I am holding abottle of that foot gel right now and I am reading the label. Glad to know that sepigel 305 is the same thing as Fusion Magic. I have had good luck using a very small amount in addition to other emulsifiers if my lotion did not get thick enough. But otherwise - not so good.
  19. It does not play nice with some other ingredients and it takes a lot of work to find out which ones. I know it does not mix well with goat milk or aloe vera juice in lotion or maybe it is the combination of the two. I do not use 100% water as the liquid in my lotions. Maybe it would be wonderful with just water but it has not performed well for me. And in several batches the problems did not show up until several weeks later. One batch looked almost like it curdled after a couple of weeks. It was beautiful when fresh. I was shocked to discover the mess. I am praying I did not give any of that away to my testers. Hopefully I still had it all at home. So I guess it can be nasty stuff or wonderful stuff - depending on a lot of variables.
  20. I tried it several times and I did not have good luck with it. The last batch was simply awful. Now I have had good luck using a tiny amount if my regular emulsifiers did not get my lotion thick enough. But that is the only way I will use it now. Ruined too many good ingredients. Awful texture and leaves a film on your skin that rubs off.
  21. Bekka's recipes are on the Yahoo group and I agree they have all kinds of additives that I do not have. I searched on another forum and found a recipe on there that was simple and I used it for my first batch. Let me see if I can find it in my notebook and see who posted it. I amde the Snowdrift Farm method and I am now liking it pretty well after 2 weeks sitting in a gallon glass container. It has thickened up quite nicely.
  22. I only made two and they were both pumpkin spice but one had cinnamon sprinkled on top and the other had actual pumpkin in it. Sold out of the one with cinnamon. Did not sell but one of the one made with pumpkin. Sam fragrance,
  23. This is just a personal preference. I bought several shades of samples from a MM person and I got some in those little containers and some in little zip lock baggies. I much preferred the little baggies for samples. This is just from a consumer viewpoint.
  24. For the foamers you will need to dilute the liquid soap or it won't foam right. It has to be pretty thin to foam correctly and I also use a preservative. I used liquid Germall Plus. You kind of have to experiment a little until you get the right consistency for the foamers then they are all the same for the same batch of liquid soap. I love the foamers.
