  1. Ok, after reading all of the post and thinking about what everybody says. I have decided to just call it a parasoy blend. If they want future info, I will give it to them. I don't want to be sneaky or lie about anything. And I honestly didn't think I was doing anything wrong. But I think this would be the best way to describe it. Now I am going to have to explain what a parasoy is... I can hear it now.... Is this stuff really made out of parrachutes????.....Oh.... you pare those little soy beans up into wax??????....... What....... a pair of soys, what is that?.......Is that like that Lea and Parrins soy sauce?.............. I can't wait.. Maybe when they ask me what kinda wax I use, I will just say WHITE.... lol
  2. Sorry I didn't put the home page for this site. This is the National Candle Organization. Very informative. It would be a good site to copy off for shows. Then when people ask questions, you can show them what the National Candle Organization says about it. I think that would be more professional, then just telling them what you believe. What cha think? http://candles.org/about_faq.html
  3. Is paraffin wax toxic? No. Paraffin wax is non-toxic. In fact, paraffin is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in food, cosmetics, and medical applications. Food-grade paraffin is commonly used for manufacturing candles. http://candles.org/about_faq.html
  4. What kind of label information is required for candles? Federal law requires that consumer commodities like candles be labeled with the manufacturer's name and location, as well as basic product weight and measurement information. In addition, candle industry standards call for cautionary labels on candles or their packaging to inform consumers of the basic rules of fire-safety. All NCA members place cautionary labels on their products, and usually supplement them with additional burning and use instructions. Always read and follow a candle's cautionary label and burning instructions before using a candle. I fot this out of the National Candle Organization. I didn't know this. Did anyone else NOT know this? Or am I the only dummy.
  5. Thank you to all the people that defended me. And to Teresa, you have me mixed up with someone else. Nothing in your post is true about me. I just wanted to clear my name. All I wanted to do is share with you something that seems to work for my business. I sell a great candle. The blend seems to have a lot less smoke than the parrifin, but not as much as the soy. I do not want to give out my recipe. But I feel like they need to know that it is a blend. If they are really interested and have a fear. I let them know exactly what is in my candles. They may have an allergy or something and need to know the ingredients. It is funny that there is not alot of post anymore, but when something like this comes up, everyone has the time to put in their 2 scents. I would have rather someone that thought I was in the wrong, just tell me. Deb I don't think you should do it that way. Instead of talking to everyone trying to build it into something it is not. I am sorry I ever posted.
  6. 25% Soy Container Blend One-pour container blend wax (in most cases) Soft & Creamy Texture, easy to work with Excellent This one is from Texas Candle Company WIX N WAX 130 Container Soy Blend IGI 6006 See the supplier list this blend as a soy blend. Why? Because parrifin is the norm for wax. Soy is new, so they list it like this. Then the customer will know it is a soy blend. Even though it should really be called a parrifin blend since it is mostly parrifin. Now do you have a problem with it?
  7. I said it. It is not a lie. If they ask me what the % is, I tell them 30% soy. Most of the customers never get that far. They just want to know if it is not straight parrifin or straight soy. They have had problems with both. The blends seem to be a little better. I usually explain to them that we use a blend because it makes the candle much better. But if they just ask, and are passing by, I tell them parrifin or soy blend, what ever they ask. And if you think about it, most customers don't want a long drawn out speak on what is in the candle. They just know that somewhere, somebody said, OH don't get parrifin, or OH don't get soy. I don't remember losing anyone because the wax is not straight soy, or parrifin. Ok? Does that clarify a little more. I don't want you to think I am being dishonest. Because I am not.:smiley2:
  8. Has anyone that uses 6006 had a problem with the candles smelling like dirty socks? I noticed a few of them that have been on the shelf for 2 weeks having a funny smell. I don't know if it is just my nose, or the wax is smelling funny. I had that problem with straight soy sometimes. But I have never seen it with this wax. Please let me know. Dirty socks are no good.
  9. I was one that went from parrifin to soy. I almost lost my business because the customers told me they were not strong like before. And that if I did not change back they would not buy from me. I have a pretty good size business. I hear alot of bad comments about soy. They tell me they are just not strong. But there are some that still like the soy. SOOOOOOO, I decided I would do both. I use the 6006, 30% soy. It has an awesome hot throw. When they want soy, I tell them it is a soy blend. When they want parrifin, I tell them it is a parrifin blend. It it true. They are happy, I sell candles, and have no complaints. I think since soy is so hard to work with, some candlemakers had a hard time with it at first. And the customer bought those candles anbd found them to be weak. Now they are leary. They don't want to tell you that your candle is no good. So they jsut buy else where. Once soy gets prefected and everyone gets the hang of it, I think it will change. But for now, get ready. They will go back to the candle that rocks. No matter how much smoke comes out. Bottom line is how much scent it throws when it burns. Some of the top selling candles are very smoky when they burn. Just my opinion.
  10. Lone Star does, but you pay an 8.00 fee. Chem. does. They do not take anything but checks, no credit cards or debits. So they have to do COD. Ask them again to send you samples. They are good to work with. And they make alot of scents. Some are very good, others are not.
  11. That is the prettiest wax. I would love to work with it. Does anyone know what the % of oil it will hold. TIA.:smiley2:
  12. http://www.cajuncandles.com/how-to-make-soy-candles.htm This is a start. Then make sure you pick good fragrance companies that specialize in soy, or your scents will be weak. I think that Millcreek has some of the best scents for soy. Good luck. If you read the post here, you will learn alot from them.
  13. I used to use the mottled wax. I liked it because it didn't show up the wet spots as much. I don't think people really look at that. I think they open the top and if the candle hits them they buy it.
  14. Oatmeal Spice Cookie, Cookies from Heaven, Grandmas Spicy Oatmeal Cookie, (Can't Cook? Burn a Candle) lol that is a good name.
  15. I have seen that. I use 6006. I noticed one that I had burning last week, barely burning. I was surprised. I just thought it was something I did wrong. I see the wicks burning and making a black little puddle sometimes. But they still burn. I haven't had any complaints yet. It seems like the waxes are always changing on us. It is hard to have a good rep. if they keep messing it up. Wix and Wax just went up to 80.00 a case of 6006. I changed suppliers. That is rediculous. 11.00 higher than the guy down the street. And 15.00 higher than Houston. Beats me why?Hope they get this worked out. I make alot of candles.
  16. I started speaking in tongues just reading this post. I got to get this stuff. No, just playing. I bet it sells. I think I will make up my own scent for that and use the name. Good idea. I also live in a very religious community. But they all buy Monkey Farts.
  17. I like to mix mine with a good green apple and a red hot cinnamon. The cinnamon has to be the baking smell. Kinda buttery sweet. Not straight cinnamon. Macintosh doesn't smell as good to me in this mix and green apple.
  18. I get mine from Wellington fragrance. I always get the premium oils. They are higher. But you do not have to use that much. It is super strong. And it smells just like the fragrance. Sells like hot case. I have one customer that buys 2 cases at a time. That is all she will burn in her Houston home. Fills her whole house. That would be too strong for me. But that is what she likes. They have good designer oils.
  19. I think after we are around the scents all the time, our nose changes. I smell chemicals in alot of them now. I don't smell what the customer smells. Gingerbread should be easy to find. BCN had a good one. I always add a buttery scent to it and call it Buttered Gingerbread, or an orange and call it Orange Gingerbread. I never pour it straight. It doesn't smell that good in the jar, but when you burn it, it is better. When I first started pouring, it smelled right. Now all of them smell like chemicals. Kinda hard to test.
  20. I found that most of the sugar cookies are close. If you want to get alot of sugar cookie, you can order it from IFT. They are the manufacturer. Do you know that it is only 4.00 a lb? It is the cheapest oil around. I get 25lbs at a time. I love to blend it with other stuff. Just thought you would like to know. The least amount that you can order is 10lbs. But at 4.00 a lb, that is not much. as far as the best sugar cookie. I like BCS. It smells just like my Moms cinnamony buttery wonderful sugar cookies.
  21. CandleBuddy, does Frosted Cupcake smell like a Frosted Cupcake????
  22. I walked into an office to sell candles on time. And they were really snotty. They told me that the only candles they used were &*(*^&*((. I don't even remember which big name it was, BUT, I ask to see one. They had a big fancy candle buring in the lobby. It was beautiful. But when I started looking at it I noticed that most of the candle was not burning. It was tunneling right down the middle, and I mean votive size tunnel. This jar had to be at least 30oz. Big candle. I ask them if they liked that. Oh yes, and it was very expensive. Can you smell it???? Well, it is light, but we paid a lot for it. Do you mind if it doesn't burn all the wax. You paid for all of the wax. We don't mind. It cost a lot of money. I gave them one of my 8oz. to try. The next time I went in, they were ready to buy. But they really had a hard time buying a candle that did not cost them a fortune. People are funny. I guess I could have charged them 20.00 for it. Then they would have something to brag about. Just like the Tommy Hilfiger shirts. They buy those so everyone knows they paid a fortune for a shirt. Personally I do not want to wear a shirt with someone's name writtin in huge letters across the front. Sorry, got off the subject. Most of the candles that I tried from the store were not good. Poorly made. Holes around the wicks, huge big wicks that were very long sticking out or laying sideways on the top, colors that looked faded, wicks that were crooked, etc. Makes me feel gooooooood, everytime.
  23. Instructions should be easy. All you do is put it on the warmer. So the only thing I can think of, is don't touch candle when it is hot. Turn off when you leave the area. I don't, BUT. Keep away from children and pets. Almost the same instructions as the candle. Don't cha think? Just guessing.
  24. Anyone else selling alot of fall yet. Every year they start in early for me. Then by Fall, they want Christmas. By Christmas, they are sick of it. Then in January they want clean scents to start out the new year. So I figured out I have to be way ahead of the season.
