Can someone please describe the Vanilla Lime for me?
Is it similar to Yankee's? I'd like a really really tart lime, and I didn't think Yankee's was.

Hello all,
Just a quick question. What are some other types of palm wax for containers that you all are using? I am using GG from CS and I just don't think it will ever burn right for me. I've done different pour temps, relief holes, different wicks, no scent, no color, as so on, and it just doesn't seem to burn well for me. Lots of sooting and big flames.
I'm thinking about trying some different palm container wax and wanted some suggestions of other brands/distributors that you have had success with.
I heard of a type that is beaded as opposed to the flakes I have gotten from CS. Where can I find that stuff?
Thanks,
Bruce
Candlewic offers one that would be comparable to the CS Frost version that is little granules.
Strahl & Pitsch (sp??) offers one that is little beads or pellets, and it is also very similar to the CS frost type design. I don't know of any company that carries this line, you would have to go to their website and order directly from them.
ETA: the problems you experienced are problem common to all Palm, so not sure another company's product is going to help that much.

I'd like to hear people's thoughts on Peak's Gardenia, please.

BCN has a Wick Your Wax Casablanca Lily.

you will have to pour higher if doing a blend, but you will have to test to find the right number.
As a starting point, you could take a weighted average of the pouring temp for soy and the pouring temp for paraffin and start there.

I find the BCN Wick Your Wax Cinnamon is very strong and throws well.

I saw a great thread started by Trappeur where she listed prices for C-3. I'm going to ATTEMPT to do one for as many suppliers as I can find for all different types of waxes.
I really don't want to belabor the point and this is my last point on this topic, but given the wording in your initial post, I think it is clear to see how we would think that is your intent. No one would have a problem with you doing something for your own information, that's just sharp shopping.

fo·rum (fôrm, fr-)
n. pl. fo·rums also fo·ra (fôr, fr) 1. a. The public square or marketplace of an ancient Roman city that was the assembly place for judicial activity and public business.
b. A public meeting place for open discussion.
c. A medium of open discussion or voicing of ideas, such as a newspaper or a radio or television program.
2. A public meeting or presentation involving a discussion usually among experts and often including audience participation.
3. A court of law; a tribunal.
bubblebath, if you're not prepared to have people discuss your thoughts, maybe you shouldn't state them. I agree with Stella on this, I think it would be a slap in the face of the company that so graciously sponsors this site.

Whenever you get emails with really bad grammar.. you should immediately think scam. My concern would be that by responding to this email, they can pull information like IP address etc and use it in more nefarious ways.

If you are into heavy reading here's the link regarding the Federal Trade Commission Fair Packaging and Labeling Act
paragraphs 500.4 and 500.5 apply.
www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fpla/part500.shtm
And candles are specifically mentioned as needing this label in Section 503.2(. So she (as a retailer) would be inviolation if she removes your label... see Section 502.3. (PM me if you have problems navigating the site.)
I'd venture to say the majority of home-based candlemakers don't comply. And the label inspectors (if there are any) are concentrating on Big Business and import/export compliance. I've never heard of a local business getting into trouble over this. But showing her these regulations may give you the leverage to make sure your company name stays on the product...even if it gets private labeling.
Judy, thank you thank you thank you!!!! This information is so important to us, I think it should be stickied. I will read every word.
To the original poster, I am very sorry for hijacking the thread, but it seemed the logical time to ask the questions.

I ordered on line over the weekend.. and realized I forgot something and sent an email immediately. They responded Monday morning and added in the additional items. I think it's just where they are in the filling process determines whether they can do it or not.
I've had nothing but good experience with BCN, so please don't let one bad thing sway you.

By law, you have to include a contact and/or company info somewhere on the candle you produce. Warning label is the typical spot it seems for wholesale/private label accounts.
Is there one source to find out all of the laws related to candle making? This would be very good to know.
Sorry for hijacking a bit..... it sounds like this lady wants a private label.. so you need to decide whether you want to do that or not.
-
Sorry.. number 1 wasn't a question per se... just a statement of fact.
Thanks for the answers so far!

Hi all, I'm getting close to the point of incorporating and selling. But want to understand how ppl handle the following situation:
1. You gain a wholesale account.
2. you have a website of your own.
3. Do you dictate the price that the retailer sells your candle at? ( I would think the answer is no)
4. Do you put your website on the label of your wholesale acct candles?
5. What is the relationship of the store retail price vs web site price?
6. do retailers get upset if web site price is lower?
7. do retailers get upset if web site is on candle label or box?
Thanks in advance for any information you share.

So does anyone know if they carry the lids for the 11 ounce libbey tumblers?
I am looking for metal/silver lids.
Thanks!
I asked about metal lids for tumblers about 6 months ago and they said that they current do not, but they have plans in the "distant future".
I have worked with Ron and he was very very nice.

I noticed Peaks is carrying it now too

Try twisting the wick when you set up your candle. The wax will cool, keeping it twisted, and then it will untwist as the candle is used. Rotating the cold spot and keeping your melt pool fairly even.
-
longer cure might help as well... try two weeks... you may be able to get away with less, but you should be able to tell hot throw for sure with two weeks.
-
I never had this problem when I was using straight CB135. And I just let me tumblers cool on the kitchen counter.
-
That thread pretty much sums it up, but I will add that as a precaution, I never have a candle lit in my work area when making other candles. Just to be safe... but beyond that, I don't worry about flash points.
-
Anyone know where to find this frgance oil? Thanks
Peak's has a nice White Tea and Ginger, if that's what you're looking for.

I use CB135, I have some comments within your quote in bold.
Ok, we got our order Monday.Well last night at about 8 oclock we finally got to get started.
We made 5 4oz tins, of freesia. ( plus about 1/4 tin without a wick, left over wax. )
First thing I noticed was how good it smelled when we where making it.
This is basically what we did.
Took 16oz of cb135
melted it to 185, then added
1/2 tbs of UA (is this for soy?) I would try without any additives first
1/2 tsp of CO (I've done it.. haven't noticed a big difference)
then stired till it was all melted.
lowered the heat (not sure what you mean here.... heat wax to 185 then remove heat source)
then added 1 drop blue dye and two drops red dye
at about 155 (I would add this at 185, this might be a tad too low, I've also found for me that it helps to heat the FO on a candle warmer before adding to the wax, otherwise wax drops like 30 degrees instantly)
we added the
1oz of fressia FO
I stirred Fairly regularly till it got down to about 115 (this is fine, I would actually go down to 107-108 --- found I got fewer wet spots)
It smelled wonderful at that time.
Then we poured in to containers
1 had HTP73 1 htp83, one had CC 60, 1 LX14 and 1 LX16.
We let cool on the table. (my personal favorite is the CD wick for CB135. Found it gave a better throw.. I have tried the HTPs and LXs)
This morning I noticed that there was a circluar crack in everyone of them.
It was a faint crack, but still a crack, as though the outside cooled to fast and then the middle dropped in.
I am not sure. (Possibly from cooling. Get a heat gun and smooth it out- I didn't get this when I pour cooler)
Ok, so aside from that.
This morning I tried to light one of them before I went to work. I lit the CC wick one.
Well it smelled fine around the candle but it only went out about 1 foot away.
Not very strong at all.
However it smells great in jar, Without being lit. (I give my candles two weeks cure time before lighting)
I brought the left over wax to work. In this tin there was no wick, and it was about 1/4-1/2 full.
I put it on a candle warmer and it smells much stronger.
Still not like it did when we where making it though. (It can depend on air currents and lots of other factors)
Any Ideas??
Any comments??
