  1. I would never ask a customer that paid full price for a candle to send back the jar. (Did that website mention who would pay the cost of shipping??)

I have asked friends as I've worked through my testing phases to return the jars to me, and I washed them out and used them again without issue. Some many many many times.

They're sturdy glass, made for candles, I don't see the problem.

I want to clarify after reading some of the other responses... I know my friends aren't letting candle jars roll around on the bottom of the car or anything.. so I'm not concerned from that perspective. However, I've learned a thing or two here, and may limit that practice to just testers. Thanks everybody.

Why would it not let me edit my original post???

  3. Does anyone heat their FO before putting into their pour pot? If so, do you only do that for the heavier FO's?

I heat all my FOs before adding to a cold pour pot. I found that the fragrance oils were dropping the temperature of the wax by 30 degrees when added, and I worried that this was causing FOs not to bind. I've found that I have much better hot throw with this approach. I heat my FO on a candle warmer for about 10 minutes before adding to wax.

  4. I have NOT tested CDs and CDNs side-by-side. On the occasions when I have used CDs, I start with what I would use in a CDN and "bracket" that on either side. For example, if I think a 6 would work in a CDN, I make testers with a CD 5, 6, and 7.

While the charts are quite general (because of the different styles of containers and blends of waxes), they are a good starting point and help when making comparisons between dissimilar wicks or ones with which one is unfamiliar.

R.S., CDs and CDNs (Stabilo & Stabilo KST) are the same except for the acid-resisting treatment applied to the CDNs (for more information about CDN wick treatment & how it's applied, click here and select "All about the wick", then scroll down to "The Purpose of Wick Treatment"), HOWEVER, the priming wax applied to them (post-manufacturing) might be different and cause performance variance between same type/size wicks purchased from different suppliers depending on what coating they are ordering from their wick distributor. Take a look at the choices of wick wax that are offered by WickIt and Wicks Unlimited and I think you'll see what I mean... ;)

Yes, I understand your point, but these are waaaaayyyy different, to the point that there has to be something else going on here.

  5. But that doesn't mean that ALL of them are like that. Stella's experience is that they match up well. I'm not sure exactly what is happening between BCS and Greenleaf that they are that different, but it's very clear from looking at them, and my test burn proved that they are very different even though the numbers are the same.

    Test, test, test!

  6. I think it is partly related to the fragrance oil you use. I have some that do that, some that don't.

No one has complained about this, in fact they still compliment on the complete burn with no waste.

The times where I don't get it, I feel that I've overwicked because I have a very very deep melt pool.

I don't consider this a problem, but will be really interested in hearing other people's responses.

  7. OK, they arrived today.

My main interest was the Passionfruit Guava.

To me, it has a bit of a soapy smell OOB. I put some in a glass dish and onto my candle warmer just to get a sense of the scent and found even heated it had a bit of a soapy smell and a couple times I actually wondered if it was Cool Citrus Basil. It's not super strong, but again, I haven't tried it in my wax yet, that'll take a week or two.

The Summer Orange Flower... it seems strong, it is definitely a floral, I was expecting more orange notes for some reason. I personally don't care for it, but that, by no means, means it's a bad fragrance oil.
