  1. I use CB135 and get great scent throw with the right FOs.. certainly better hot throw than my testing of the advanced.
  2. I tested Palm and Soy for awhile and found that if I went much over 15% soy, that I started to lose crystallization. HTH
  3. I've stopped using Palm but the reason I did it was to soften the palm a bit, which is a really really hard wax. Although I found if I went over 10% that I started to lose the crystalline structure.
  4. I want to clarify after reading some of the other responses... I know my friends aren't letting candle jars roll around on the bottom of the car or anything.. so I'm not concerned from that perspective. However, I've learned a thing or two here, and may limit that practice to just testers. Thanks everybody. Why would it not let me edit my original post???
  5. I would never ask a customer that paid full price for a candle to send back the jar. (Did that website mention who would pay the cost of shipping??) I have asked friends as I've worked through my testing phases to return the jars to me, and I washed them out and used them again without issue. Some many many many times. They're sturdy glass, made for candles, I don't see the problem.
  6. Very nice. How are you creating your labels? I'm struggling with that at the moment.
  7. Any comments on Scent Works Canadian Balsam - seems strong and very nice OOB but haven't had a chance to burn it yet.
  8. Congrats! and your English is just fine!
  9. Thanks everyone. I have no problem with the higher price if it makes a terrific candle.
  10. aha, all the fragrances that I clicked on had no mention of candles, but I see after some more looking that others do. thanks!
  11. Hi, I keep hearing about the Scent Works but from doing a search and reading and looking at their website, it seems they are more focused on B&B as opposed to candles. Are people using their FOs in wax? How do they work in soy?
  12. Everything I've seen for fall seems to be a foodie scent (well except for pine type scents). Anyone have good fragrances that AREN'T foodie?
  13. My candles are my own blend, but it is predominantly CB135. I love working with it, it's very consistent from batch to batch. I thought hot and cold throw was good, not great, but my additives have fixed that problem, along with frosting and wet spots.
  14. Of course you can mix them, the trick is maintaining the exact same color from batch to batch. You would be better off and get more consisten color by making batches that use whole chips, as opposed to half batches where you have to proportion the dye chips.
  15. I heat all my FOs before adding to a cold pour pot. I found that the fragrance oils were dropping the temperature of the wax by 30 degrees when added, and I worried that this was causing FOs not to bind. I've found that I have much better hot throw with this approach. I heat my FO on a candle warmer for about 10 minutes before adding to wax.
  16. I think what he's trying to say is that most fo flash points are well above any temperature anyone is heating their wax to.
  17. I am using my own personal blend of three waxes, but I can safely say I do not have that much hang up, but even what you are showing would not be a problem for me if it's wicked properly. I still call that "no waste". ETA: In fact, I wouldn't even call what I have hang up, but a film.
  18. Yes, I understand your point, but these are waaaaayyyy different, to the point that there has to be something else going on here.
  19. But that doesn't mean that ALL of them are like that. Stella's experience is that they match up well. I'm not sure exactly what is happening between BCS and Greenleaf that they are that different, but it's very clear from looking at them, and my test burn proved that they are very different even though the numbers are the same. Test, test, test!
  20. I can tell you that CD12 from BCN or BCS is not the same as CDN 12 from GreenLeaf. There is a big difference, I haven't tried yet, but I think I would have to wick up to about CDN 20 from Greenleaf to get the same performance. Yup they were that different.
  21. I think it is partly related to the fragrance oil you use. I have some that do that, some that don't. No one has complained about this, in fact they still compliment on the complete burn with no waste. The times where I don't get it, I feel that I've overwicked because I have a very very deep melt pool. I don't consider this a problem, but will be really interested in hearing other people's responses.
  22. OK, they arrived today. My main interest was the Passionfruit Guava. To me, it has a bit of a soapy smell OOB. I put some in a glass dish and onto my candle warmer just to get a sense of the scent and found even heated it had a bit of a soapy smell and a couple times I actually wondered if it was Cool Citrus Basil. It's not super strong, but again, I haven't tried it in my wax yet, that'll take a week or two. The Summer Orange Flower... it seems strong, it is definitely a floral, I was expecting more orange notes for some reason. I personally don't care for it, but that, by no means, means it's a bad fragrance oil.
