  1. I don't know if I am answering your question but if it is a soy wax blended with other natural botonical oils it is pure soy in one sense that it doesn't have paraffin in. Some soy blends are blended with paraffin. Someone else will probably answer you more clearly!
  2. You are really on a roll! The sun must be shining where you live!!
  3. I think there are successful people on this board who have been making candles for many, many years. If any of you make a reallly terriffic income at it, perhaps you could let us know? Also, I know I have been making candles for a few years and I am still testing and pulling my hair out to get my candles just right. (I suppose you could call me a slow learner. )
  4. What happened to Millcreek Message Board? It looks gone! I know they were having trouble with their web site.
  5. Got my hands on some of this wax. Wow, I think I'm going to like it!! Just poured it but got too excited to wait to tell you! It cooled to a nice, smooth surface. No cracks so far. Cold throw is real good. I am seeing that you shouldn't pour too cool. I poured @120 and got the smoothest tops. Can't wait to burn them!:highfive:
  6. I whip soy:whip: . Actually when I do my whip I use straight soy wax, nothing added and does just fine.
  7. I don't use Joy wax but I've noticed a number of soy waxes changing. Personally I think something happened to the soybeans!! Maybe genetic engineering or different weather conditions this year. Too many waxes are having unaccustomed problems.
  8. Unless things have changed since the last time I got wax from Strahl & Pitsch, they don't have a distributor. You have to order the wax right from them.
  9. I have noticed that Peaks cotton wicks really have to be 1/2 " to give you a good meltpool. Any shorter than that and they don't burn as good. I like them, use them a lot! Those and Premier.
  10. I've been having such unusual amount of problems with hairline cracks and sink holes I was beginning to think it was that particular soy crop!
  11. Quite a while ago I read an experience of a man who was trying to clean his pillars and was told to use nylon stockings to wipe the fingerprints off. He was telling his story as he was single and trying to get some discarded stockings from a neighbor, I think. Anyway, besides the humor, the stockings worked wonders on his candles.
  12. Mozzie is right about the addiction!! I tried to quit once, even started selling off some of my stuff, but just couldn't do it!
  13. Topofmurrayhill, gotta say I love your descriptions!
  14. I've been getting hairline cracks in my jars that I never had before. I was wondering what was going on! Could it be the cool house temp? We haven't turned the furnace on and the house is COOL.
  15. I've been pouring just a small amount of the wax into the pouring pot and mixing the powder in that at fairly high temp. Then I pour the rest of the wax in the pot. Seems to be working pretty good. I do get nice colors. I've been using 2 smidgen-size spoons to a pound. My scale doesn't weigh grams very well. I got the 3 basic colors: red, yellow and blue and have used them all either separately or mixed. edit to say: I had my pouring pot in the oven at low temp. waiting for my wax to melt, so I decided to put the powder in the "hot" pot. It warmed up the dye so that when I poured the wax in it was ready to dissolve! Worked wonderfully!!
  16. PS. geekrunner, where do you get S-1 wax? I vaguely remember seeing that somewhere. Do you like it? (Hmmmmm, where was I reading about it? )
  17. I like Peak's C cotton and wick-it's premier series.
  18. Candlesoylutions in OK also has soy-based FO's. I love theirs and I've used Northstar's.
  19. I have been trying BCN powder dyes because of frosting issues and so far they are really good. But then it has only been a week. I wonder if the frosting will start after a while.......:tiptoe:
  20. Bugtussle, maybe you are using too much FO. I understand cutting down on fragance amounts can actually improve the scent. KMommy, the merlot isn't overwelmingly grape OOB to me. I made a bunch of samples to send to my son's office including merlot but I can't remember how it was in wax! I'll let you know when they send them back, tomorrow I hope!
  21. I love their scents in soy! I have used pink bombshell (love it!) and chestnuts and brown sugar is strong! smells like butterscotch. My special recipe (eggnog) is very good. Merlot is strong. I have a bunch more I haven't burned yet.:pThey are having a terriffic sale this week!
