  1. There is no zap, but it does have palm oil in it.
  2. Ok, so this is an unusual one. Take a look tell me what you think. Made this one many times and this isn't how it came out ever before. It has oatmeal in it and it gelled like crazy. So, what are the weird patches on top of the log? First here is the log pic: Here is a closer look: And this is what the side of the bar looks like: It just looks like it is part of the soap only it is white in these middle areas. It looks like it wasn't mixed well and I have some type of lye pockets (they're not wet though), but I actually had to SB this one quite a bit as it moved a little slow. So what is the vote? Lye pockets?
  3. I'd imagine ths is the same stuff I give my horse. Here is one source: http://www.horse.com/products/sku-BWA56.html
  4. The first time I did this with this recipe it took me forever cooking it as well, but in the end it came out ok. I think my first batch took about 8 hours. I think it was mostly because it wasn't getting hot enough. I also checked it about every 10 minutes so the lid was off a lot which also kept it from staying hot. It is also a PITA to test getting it fully disolved is a joke unless you feel like waiting a while. I'd say yours sounds fine. Good luck!
  5. I personally use about a teaspoon of glycerin to mix with my oxides before adding to soap and it works great.
  6. LOL, it took a few seconds, but I do see what you're talking about.
  7. It's peaks red oxide. I love the stuff it works excellent every time. My trouble is always more with purple/lavender I always end up with gray.
  8. Ok, I couldn't wait any longer. Here are the cut pics. It was a bit soft, but I just had to find out what was inside. I think I like it.
  9. It's a great day to soap! This one was 4th of July inspired even though it will not be usable until closer to Labor Day. This behaved so fabulously I am almost in shock. I have even fought of gel so far (it has been about 2hrs). I ran and got the camera the second it was in the mold before something went wrong. It is still doing well and looks nice and creamy. Anyway this is NG's Kama Sutra Passionate Kisses I was able to get a sampler of on the Classifieds. I think it smells like a popsicle though.
  10. I has as of yet not found a label that is right for them for what I want. I wanted a label that goes all the way around and does not have rounded corners. I'm sure I am the minority here, but I found the easiest thing for me was to get a full sheet label and design a template that is the size I need and just print them and cut. I think it is something like 4 colummns and 6 rows that worked for me.
  11. Thanks! I have so many of these clips around I can't wait to try this next time.
  12. Thanks for the help everyone, I at least have it narrowed down to two I think.
  13. Anyone putting other I'd really appreciate knowing what the other is? Thanks for your input Crafty1! That's what I was afraid of since of course it is the most expensive at sweetcakes. $38.00/lb. ouch
  14. I would like to know of those of you who have tried this fragrance who has the best dup. (for B&B stuff not candles)? I think I have narrowed it down to three, but would like some additional input before I order one. Also please let me know if there is a different one I am missing that is better. Choices: Saveonscents (SOS Concentration) Sweetcakes Scent Works Thank you so much!
  15. Mmmmmm I want to lick it like a Popsicle. Looks great!
  16. I have tried using these a couple times now and I've had some issues. The first time they left a bubbly texture on the outside edges of the soap and the second time (differrent brand) the color of the foam came off on the soap, but no bubbled texture. Anyone else have these problems?
  17. I absolutely love the Mardi Gras one! WTG The colors are just perfect. This is a great scent and that looks just right for it. I'm so jealous.
  18. I don't know that wax paper would look too good, but you can get a nicer paper like scrapbooking type stuff or corrugated and make a band and put a label on it. That always looks good. Check this out for ideas: http://www.pvsoap.com/how_to_wrap_soap.htm
  19. Just a small warning. I loved poppy seeds in soap until I was showering with a bar and got a poppy seed in an unpleasant area. Nothing scary, but just a bit uncomfortable. Now I reserve them for hand soaps.
  20. First off if you haven't made soap before cold process is a lot easier to make, but of course the cure time is no fun. My best advice would be to keep a close watch on it while in the crockpot. As mentioned Lowe's is a great source for Lye if you have one around. If you want to order online http://store.aaa-chemicals.com/ has it for 10.99/4lbs. I'd suggest trying it first without milks or additives and keeping the recipe simple, until you have a good handle on the process. Certain things you add can cause some seriously strange reactions. I think what you're reading about it looking like vaseline is on a tutorial for making liquid soap not regular bar soap. The tutorial on here is a good one to follow for hot process and has pics: http://www.candletech.com/hpsoap/ Have fun and good luck!
  21. I'd also say it would depend on the water discount you are doing too. sometimes I have to do it ASAP the as soon as it reaches a light trace.
  22. I may not be the best help as I have only done OP a couple times and it has been a while. I think you need more than 2 hrs, I beleive it is like 5-8 hrs in the oven @ 170. I never used saran wrap, I'd be afraid it would melt. And just as a word of warning be sure your oven is no higher than 170 and that your mold ia on a cookie sheet. Don't ask me how I know (burnt soap smells really bad). I'm sure you'll get better advice from others who do this on a regular basis. Good Luck!
  23. Pick one? Yeh right if I could do that that would make my life a lot easier. Basically I order them from mixed sources. I'd say I like peaks because I get their stuff the fast and they have good shipping rates to here (I'm in CA). I can also always count on them to be packaged well and they have great cutomer service. Cierra has great shipping to here as well as they're in NV, but I use them for wax not for FO's. NG is not too bad with their rates to here and they come releatively quick and they have a sale going on for May.
  24. I would agree with mountain madness. Castor, OO, Coconut, Palm are some good basics to start off with at least.
