I started with BCN and loved the Country Berry Hotcakes when mixed with the Cream Brulee. I also love Verbana Berry mixed with Cream Brulee... Candlescience has an awesome Cranberry Marmalade, Cream Brulee and Bananna Nut Bread! Just Scent did not work with my soy wax, so I cannot rave about them... Smelled great OOB though!

I did a search, and not much has been discussed on this FO. A coworker seems to think a Cognac FO would be a hot seller. For now I am a hobbiest, but I would like to try this scent out in soy. And this may help others who do sell candles too!! I am beginning to think no supplier carries this FO... TIA!

I just made about 25 tarts over the weekend. I used EZ Soy and added a small amount of BW I bought at Michael's Crafts. I have also added stearic acid as well. I have amazing cold and hot throw, people at work are using the tarts as air freshners for their lockers and cars, LOL! However, I am a hobbyest, and I do see the greasiness mentioned, IMO, people who I am giving them to do not notice. A bit OT but kinda related: I went into Hallmark today at work during lunchbreak to scope out candles and prices; and I was with a coworker. I smelled alot of no scent candles that were labeled as scented and ALOT of uncentered wicks!!! I pointed the wicks out to my coworker, and he said he would have never noticed it if I had not shown him... But I know the greasy thing irks some people too.

I think the Old Will website is really great. I will buy one from them when I am ready to.:tiptoe:

Well, I did use the lye calc, but I am going to wait until I get a scale, and a stick blender. I think I used too much FO, and I did not let the mixture get hot enough either. Not giving up, that is for sure! Thanks for all the advice! I am off to research scales and stick blenders...BTW, my Walmart sells the stick blenders for $25.00. I am going to see if I can find a better deal on a higher quality one. Thanks again!

OOPS!! Too late! Well, the damage is done! Something went wrong here, my 3 bars have a cornstarchy texture, I may do a rebatch...or toss them, in the trash. Hubby did the lye test and it tasteed like soap... The real problem here is the recipie, I downsized it because I am not a soap factory!! Here is the resize, and no, I did not use a scale either: 4 oz Castor Oil 4 oz vegeitable shortning 8 oz extra virgin olive oil 2.05 oz lye crystals 6.08 oz bottled water with the 1/2 T disolved suger before lye 1 dye chip- maple redding 1 oz FO 3 mixed Fo's soap safe The soap is hard, but very oily and grainy looking Here is a not so great pic, thank goodness I did not suck at candlemaking too, or I would feel really crappy right now~ Hubby thought this pic was of bricks, and then went on about pumace soap...gotta have humor LOL! http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v385/jenigma/?action=view&current=Photo65.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch1

I think I found the answer, it does not seem to matter as the tutorial shows her mixing the lye and water mixture with a silver spoon. I am going to use wood or plastic, but my hand mixer is going in the CP mixture!

Wow!!! Those are all so cool. I cannot get over the potatoe soap, it looks so real!!

I am using the Candletech CPHP tuitorial. It says no alunimum. My hand mixer has 2 metal beaters, should I just use a wooden spoon, or is it ok to use a hand mixer? TIA

Thank you!!! I have no problem with red, I guess I will just add a maple dye chip to make a red maple swirl! Thanks again!!! I want to make some soap in the morning. I ran around all day today buying all the supplies. Never found Coconut oil. Got the lye though! So I have lard, olive oil and castor oil to make my debut. Thanks again!! I really appreciaate it!

I do not have a super walmart where I live. I bought a silicone 8 in 1 mold at the regular Walmart. I tried Target and Bed Bath and Beyond. I want to know if it will be ok for CPHP soap. I am assuming it will, I know there are soap molds out there, this one can withstand 500 degrees of heat. TIA!

Does it have a good hot/cold throw?

I tried to find a mold like the one in the CPHP tutorial here at CandleTech, but I could not. What I did find was an 8 in 1 mini loaf silicone bakeware. It basically is made of rubber, pretty pricy at 10 dollars, but I hope I can use it. The brand is Roshco and it is called Baker's Advantage. :)TIA!!

I try to be frugal. I ordered some from CandleScience. Here are the details: Item 30168 4oz seamless tins (12 pc case) $8.95 I thought I was getting 12 since it said 12 pcs, then pondered maybe only 6... then 12 whole tins and 12 lids came in my order. About .75 cents each tin and lid... I am a Hobby Noob, so not too bad, especially if I can sell each one for 2-3 bucks...and no I am not selling yet, but I see a future in this some day!

I call my DH when he is home and I am at work, when my delivery comes. I ask him to find all the FO's and smell them and describe to me through the phone what each scent smells like!!! He cannot understand my urgency to know the scent smells... He is a firm beliver in the scent in the wax and not OOB! I am in training...

Is awesome! I added a *trace* of Cranberry Marmalade to it- I have the 1 tart I made and the 1 ez soy candle curing with other candles on a baker's rack in the dining area...and I can smell it from the bedroom!!! FYI!! 1000 square feet of delish! (I made 2 tarts, my very first, but DH wanted one to put in his locker at work. I have not bought a warmer yet either LOL!) Funny, I took a candle with this FO to work: 1 guy though it was some nut scent and 1 guy thought it was a fruity tobaacco scent The secrateries loved it as a home bakery scent. To me, it smells like spicy buttery vanilla But I am a noob! :smiley2:

Well, CS has really great priced FO's, IMO. I bought 8 oz for 7.95. Great H and C throw. I even had the scent on my hands for 10 plus hours after the pour, and I was at work and washed my hands like 5 times! My coworker even said I smelled like candle scents too. FWIW! At JS I bought 4 oz for 9 bucks. Not working for me in ez soy. Very weak. BCN has scents that work great as well, and some are cheaper B/C closeouts, great H and C throw in EZ soy too! HTH!!!

I like the marble color and texture that it has, I bet is smells yummy!

Well, today I made my first 2 tarts. I did not have mold release so in 1 tart mold I used pam, and I wiped it with a paper towel real good. Since I am experimenting, I decided to try olive oil as a mold release for the other tart. I only bought 2 molds from CS, real tiny ones! I used ez soy, BW, no dye and CS Cream Brulee and (Cranderry Marmalade trace) I used the wax to test some 4 oz tins as well with eco 8 wicks... Anyways, I poured at 11 Am, let the tarts cure until 10 PM. I put them in the freezer for 7 minutes, and they popped right out of the mold when I bent the rim of the mold with my thumbs. 1 has a hole in it, from pouring too cool, my fault, I hate to waste wax! The 2nd one came out perfect except for a tiny chip on the edge. I think olive oil is ok for a release, both of the tarts came out with nice tops! So for my very first tarts I am pleased. I would like to find molds that are without the creases of the standard tart mold, smoother, and almost look like the shape of what we bake cupcakes in; minus the crinkly foil/paper liner! That is probably how that special shape is made! LOL!!!

Well, even though I am new here, I want to share too! I use ez soy flakes and recently add BW flakes for creamier tops. I measure and put both waxes in the pouring pot and the pot into a pot of hot water. The temp is at 150 while I melt the wax to liquid. Then I turn up the heat until the wax is at 170, and I add the dye chip if I am using dye. I wait until the temp is 175 and add the already measured out FO. I quickly remove the pot from the heat and stir. Then I cool the wax down to 100 and pour into warm containers. I have had great hot/cold throw with all 2 of 3 suppliers, the one I had no cold throw with was JS.

Thanks for the advice on trying the FO's in the wax! Today, I made 2 tarts and 2 tin candles I used ez soy and added white BW. I used 3/4 oz of CS Cream Brulee and I added a trace amount (1/16 oz) of CS Cranberry Marmalade. It smells yummy! Thanks again!

Hi group! I have bought in this order the following FO's: BCN: Cream Brulee Country Berry Hotcakes Hayride Basil Sage Mint Verbana Berry JS: Vanilla Buttercream Crunch Totally Scrumptous Blueberry Cheesecake CS: Cranberry Marm Creme brulee Bannan Nutbread So, all the fos smell fab, however the BCN fo's have a "true scent" where the others seem to have an oily smell to them, and a wierd OOB smell, and JS had weak throws compared to BCN in ez soy containers... Any feedback is appreciated!
