  1. Long long ago in a galaxy far far away...... people made their own gel wax. However, Penreco™ holds the patent on gel wax and will vigorously defend that patent and did so. You may not legally make your own.
  2. You can easily make a standing pegboard display. If there is room you can take three of them and tie wrap them in a triangle. It will stand up nicely. there are other ways to make a nice pegboard display with a bit of wood for a base.
  3. Not sure what you can do about consignment ... in my shop I have candles for them to smell the scents. You need scratch and sniff ! What if you used air freshener blanks labeled with the scents?
  4. You can do this with two wicks... go by the width of the container, center them on each side. Three wicks is over kill. With soy I go up one size of the suggested mfr size...you can use CD's RRd's etc. is personal preference.
  5. The ones from CWI are not that great. They are flimsy and do not hold a lot either.
  6. Sorry, sometimes when you know what you are saying you don't realize it isn't clear to everyone else Tear the gel into small chunks and place them in the bottom of the pot, then other chunks on top.... I know you figured it out LOL. The main thing with using the old Pyrex pots is to never never leave them while melting gel and always use the low heat setting. The nice thing is, you can leave the gel in them and then simply re-heat it as needed. Hope you are successful in finding the old pots.
  7. I love the Epson ink jet ... am on my third . My dh brought home a Canon mp 190 and there was no comparison. If there is someplace you can go and compare print quality do that and see for yourself which you like better. Also price the ink cartridges...since you don't need color that would probably make the decision for me.
  8. http://www.countrycollectionny.com/ Too expensive for me to retail though.
  9. If you can find an old Pyrex coffee pot you will be in business. I have about twelve of them all found at thrift stores and they have been in use for well over ten years as gel pots. These are the old ones that you set right on the stove. tear the gel into small chunks, cover the bottom of the pot and start with the lowest setting. Watch the pot very carefully as small amounts melt quickly.
  10. Corrugated wrap sounds like it would work for you... http://www.uline.com/BL_1902/Corrugated-Wrap?desc=Corrugated+Wrap for transport you could just wrap the candle but not secure the wrap, that way you could pack them into a container , take them out and put the wrap back into the container. When you sell one, wrap it and tape it for the customer which will let them get the candle home without dinging it too. If you have any box supplies near you they might be able to supply you with it. HTH
  11. Do a balance sheet..pros and cons. Also figure out how much product you MUST sell just to break even. Just for the rent you would need to NET $1,250 a week or around $200. a day. How much would that be Gross? (your product cost ) and remember this is JUST to cover the rent...you are not paying for anything else OR making any money. Do you have to pay for electricity? any other associated costs? How many hours would you need an employee(s) to cover for you? Whatever their hourly is you need to double that because you have to pay Fica etc. Figure out those costs. Once you figure out alll the costs involved you will be able to see how much product you would need to sell each day in order to just cover your overhead. Can you realistically make that much product and can you realistically SELL that much in one day? and as another poster asked, can you afford to lose 10K?
  12. The are called "headers" and if you are doing smaller quantities it's easier/cheaper to do them yourself. If your package is small enough double fold business cards work well, other wise get card stock (Wally usually has it ). You can find templates for them online too.
  13. This is just what those scammers count on...young or naive people who haven't heard of this scam before. I used to wonder how people could fall for it but now I realize it is the desire to believe and make money. This scam has been around for a loooong time and will come from different countries. These people will send out thousands of those emails a day and know they will get a "hit" from someone that's why they continue doing it. There is a reason for the saying "If it sounds too good to be true, it is." ALWAYS ask yourself ... "Why did they pick me?" (Out of the THOUSANDS of companies out there selling similar products) "Does this sound too good to be true?" "Does this seem fishy?" "Do they REALLY KNOW what my products are?" "WHY would they buy huge amounts from me sight unseen?" "Are they asking ME to add/pad the bill and take a credit card/money order etc. take MY cut and then send them the balance?" (BIG tip off there) AND are they asking me to help their son/daughter, help them transfer millions of dollars (from which I will get a cut), telling me I am a looong lost relative or I since I have the same name...congratulating me for winning a lottery I never entered and all I have to do is pay a "processing fee".... well you get the idea I hope. These are just some of the scams out there and unfortunately in a LOT of our inboxes, sigh. Please DO NOT let the idea of having a big sale or making money let you fall for these scams. Good for you for checking first....your instinct was right on.
  14. The first thing to think about is that SHE contacted you. If this place is so hot she should be turning people away not soliciting them. You have to sell a heckalota candles to make any profit. The profit is being made by her renting the spaces out. Think very very carefully before entering into this venture.
  15. Actually, once the item has been sold to you what you do with it is your business....that said C o ke has enough money to keep you tied up in court until you are bankrupt or frustrated/fed up and that is their tactic. Here is a good site : http://www.tabberone.com/Trademarks/trademarks.html and some folks that took on some companies and have won.
  16. Apparently I am not the only one who "can't read". I told you, been there done that got the T shirt don't need another one. My site is not ranked as highly as it is and I don't have the traffic and sales I do by being lazy or stupid. You won't see my site in my siggy because I got tired of being ripped off. No one it seems can come up with their own labels, packaging, or any other creative idea and since mine sell they decided to just copy it. I'm NOT making it that easy for the lazy ones. AGAIN the DIY sites are NOT in the business of working YOUR business for you and neither am I. You all seem to think you are ENTITLED to have someone else do all the research and work for you. No wonder you are not successful. Ya know Beck I do not care one bit what you want or what you think. You just aren't worth the time. Oh and Thank YOU.
  17. :cheesy2: I did tell you how to do it....you are apparently to lazy to do it. You want it handed to you on a plate. sorry no one handed it to me I worked for it. I am very happy with my site and it provides me with a good income but I worked to get it that way and I work to keep it that way. there really are no free rides so grow up and stop being too lazy to do your own work.
  18. Well, I never expected DIY to do anything for me other than what they advertise they do. An easy format, lots of support, an integrated shopping cart etc. They have MORE than lived up to their end of the deal. They are a HOSTING site not a get you high in the rankings site. It is very naive to think that their job is to get you customers or ranking. Here is my best tip: GOOGLE is your FRIEND. Before I even opened my online shop I googled and read and googled and read. You can find out about meta tags, site ranking...almost anything you want to know by doing a Google. There are sites that will show you how well your content ranks and will give you suggestions for meta tags...all you have to do is Google and read. There are sites that will tell you what you can do to get a higher ranking. I found them, read them and implemented them. You can do it if I can. There is no "magic" it is a job like anything else. SOME OF YOU SEEM TO THINK SOMEONE ELSE IS GOING TO DO THE WORK FOR YOU....well trust me unless you pay them some really good cash you need to do it yourself. The only money I spent was for graphics for my site and what I pay a month for DIY to host it. Which BTW is a very decent price...oh and I do use Propay for credit cards. I DON'T THINK POINTING OUT THE TRUTH IS BASHING. SORRY IF YOU CAN NOT TAKE THE TRUTH. I have given you some good advice...if you follow it and do your own work you too can be successful. I'm not going to do it for you, I did it on my own. NO I am not going to give you my site so you can copy my ideas. Been there done that have the T shirt don't need another. Some of you need to pull up your big girl panties and grow up. I've told you how I did it but I am not going to hand it to you on a plate.
  19. Ummm no... I am on page one of Google and have a pretty high ranking AND my traffic is great as are my sales... and I use a DIY site. Which BTW gives me a LOT of help when I need it AND doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. In the next (Step 2) thread you posted this: "f there really is a market for people who want to do this type of stuff, I'm willing to help on an individual basis (because not everyone wants the same type of thing), and not for hundreds either..... " SO this really is a way for you to drum up business. Why not just be honest about it?
  20. I second KY's.... oh my it is strong and you can smell the rum in it.
  21. What are the exact dimensions of the bottle? For some things I have had to use a box that was a bit larger ... I have some things I package in a clear pillow box, I put colored shred inside and then the item so it still looks good. You can match the shred to your color scheme.
  22. Would like to point out that the links for "scams" for Hobby Lobby etc. are NOT for scams by those companies. The word "scam" is in the information somewhere but NOT in relation to the stores. Most of the links to Hobby Lobby are for EBay sales etc. It's not nice to link those stores to "scams" when they aren't scamming anyone.
