  1. Chemistry Store carries Stephenson and the price is a bit better, not sure how the shipping costs would compare.
  2. That is not a very large order ... I would tell them that I discount one candle for every 100 candles ordered wholesale.
  3. Would hate for that to happen, it would be messy. ) Use your own common sense .. Retailers do INDEED care how a candle burns as Sliver of Wax has said. If your candle doesn't burn correctly customers will NOT re-buy and what retailers want are repeat customers. 80% of my business is from repeat customers. If I sell them a crappy candle they will not purchase another one. Also I want to see what I will be purchasing, I would not want a tin or a sniffy. I would not buy from you if you sent me one. But that is just me, who has been a buyer for stores, who owns a shop and buys wholesale all the time. Just sayin'.
  4. That's good.. I was hoping it wasn't another of those websites that make money only for themselves. these days you really have to work to get sales, wholesale or retail. I suggest you market to smaller shops/businesses. Many small wholesale suppliers have gone out of business. We have lost five of our main suppliers in the past few months. Wishing you great success !
  5. If you want to sell your 10 oz apothecaries wholesale then you need to send any legitimate wholesale buyers a 10 oz jar. As a buyer I would never order a candle product that I hadn't burned myself. Yes, you can offer them at cost BUT if you know the buyer is legitimate, having done your due diligence, then I would send one free. The potential far outweighs your cost. You say someone is "setting up" this website. I would be concerned about the web site ... how do they plan on marketing the web site? What is the cost to you to advertise there? I would just have a lot of questions about the web site itself. Hope you have all your ducks in a row (ability to supply large quantities, minimum order amounts, packaging, shipping etc.) and know how to find out if a wholesale buyer is legitimate.
  6. Sounds to me like you are tightening the wick screw too much. It doesn't need to be tight just to hold the wick. Wick putty is what seals the mold.
  7. So you are looking to see if you will have a customer base for your supplies? if so all I can say is that there is no sure thing. If there was we would all know if our businesses would succeed or not. You have to decide if it is worth the risk or not.
  8. candles then were made of tallow, not paraffin. It was heated in a cauldron over the fire and then string was dipped into the tallow over and over again to make the candle. here is a site that might help you http://missiontour.org/related/industry_candlemaking.htm
  9. First of all be confident. You have a good product. Five dollars is a good price to sell wholesale as long as it gives you a nice profit. Decide on a minimum order. You may want to allow a smaller opening order (say 20 jars) to start ..explain that any less will not look good to customers, customers like to see a full shelf. .. then tell her what your re-order minimum is. Also that you will not take back any unsold items. Sit down and make up an order sheet with all the information to leave with her. do these have a shelf life? be sure and tell her that . Sit down and write out all the information you will need, then go over it. Once you have it clear in your mind what your terms are and practice saying it you will be fine.
  10. Weight and volume measurements are not interchangeable. While there are 16 ounces in a pound by weight, 16 fluid ounces of a liquid does not necessarily weigh one pound...BUT the difference is not usually that much. One lb of soy wax melts to about 18 oz and one lb of paraffin to about 20 oz. I think it is the fragrance oil that is the problem.
  11. yes it is square braid and the C is for cotton. originally made for beeswax candles and dipping tapers, they are good for not only paraffin blends but natural waxes as well
  12. Yes the jar you use can have an affect on your scent throw, how soon it will throw and for how far. A jar with at least a 3" opening that goes straight down will give a great throw providing your wax and fo are up to the task.
  13. http://www.papilio.com/inkjet%20waterslide%20decal%20transfer%20paper%20media.html don't know what their shipping is but try them
  14. Well I have to second the "cutie pie" ...LOVE the name you chose ... your product and set up looks very professional and I would HAVE to buy from you too. You have it all going on.
  15. HELLO !!! Shells are also porous and will eventually soak up the gel as well and then you will get FIRE. You really must crimp your wick above anything remotely flammable. You can use jewelry crimps ... like the one on the right above the gold ones shown here: http://www.michaels.com/Jewelry-Essentials-Findings-Crimps/bd0548,default,pd.html?cgid=products-beads-findings-crimps you can clip off the bit with the hole. Please don't take chances ...
  16. I sooo remember that ! Remember people making their own gel and putting all kinds of stuff in them ... made us all shudder and want to reach for a fire extinguisher ... Was in a dollar store and they had gel candles with stuff in them, my friend wanted to buy some and I told her NOOOOO ... I will make you some SAFE ones. At least we don't see the exploding gel stories like we used to and we've all come a long way since then ... Mima
  17. go here, scroll down aways the first part is blank: http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/faqEditorial-29049.html You really don't have a case....even if you had registered a tm you wouldn't .
  18. IMHO everyone should bookmark this website: http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2006/04/10/what-do-you-do-when-someone-steals-your-content/ don't know of ANYONE yet who has admitted they did it, it is ALWAYS "my web designer, my soninlaw, my son, my nephew, my uncle's cousins brothers friend who did it" ALWAYS an excuse for why they STOLE your content AND it IS STEALING no matter the excuse.
  19. Good job for your first ! You can cut down on the amount of bubbles by pouring the gel slowly over the back side of a large spoon ... that said I like some bubbles in ocean scapes makes them look more realistic to me.
  20. The site itself is very nice. I like it and would consider ordering from there EXCEPT I too will not order from a company that does not list its address, contact information with a telephone number etc. Perhaps your mother should think about getting a cell phone with prepaid minutes that she can use just for her web site. Mine is listed and I have received four calls from customers in the last 4 years and all of them were about orders and made me money. I do have a brick and mortar shop so the address is not a problem for me but I do suggest you use at least a PO Box for the address. People want to know where their orders are shipping from.
  21. Quote "A trademark is to protect a word or a phrase." Unquote I do not believe you can trademark a phrase. Just like you cannot trademark a website name...you trademark a name for goods or services. What you are protecting is your name, sometimes your company name, sometimes the name of your product etc. there is more to it. The best place to learn the differences is the www.uspto.gov web site. I tm'd two names...when I started I didn't know whether I wanted to go "big" or not and also thought if I ever wanted to sell the business it would be better to have the names tm'd.
  22. www.smooth-on.com they have the goo and directions You can order a sample pack that will do a couple of molds. OooMoo ... rubber maid plastic containers .. go to dollar store you can find them in all sizes, fill with goo push you model into the goo and VIE OH LAH. Not difficult to do at all.
  23. I don't think not providing will stop them....I went in today and she had pulled one of the ones she bought off the shelf and was burning....I don't see how I can control that but you make a good point *No it wont BUT it won't be YOU who made them specifically for that purpose. "Sure they should be burned safely and yes they should be watched but in every store I've ever been into that sells candles they have one burning, its just common sense. " ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? * Actually it is not common sense it is most likely against fire regulations and totally irresponsible as is for you to condone it. You are asking for trouble if you make them for them to burn, IF they decide to burn one of yours on their own that is another story. It is irresponsible to suggest someone burn a candle in a retail shop, don't you have fire laws? codes? No way is it legal in the US to burn a candle in a retail setting. Edited to add: We are so concerned with safety and how our customers burn our candles and yet here you are saying it's okay for a retail shop to burn them. I surely hope you have insurance.
  24. I would NOT give them a candle. If they have electric warmers give them tarts or sell them at cost an electric warmer for them to use. No one should be burning a candle in a retail shop...too hazardous AND easy for them to forget, a child to get into etc. and who will they blame if something does happen???? Oh yeah their shop burns down they will be right on you.
  25. KY candle supply has an Eggnog with a fabulous Bourbon scent. Strong and rich.
