  1. yes, use the longer neck tabs and also say in my instructions that the candle is made to stop burning 1/2 inch from bottom of container . You really do need to cover yourself with explicit instructions. While you can not make people read them you are covering yourself. IF the gel candle maker has instructions that say "never EVER move a burning candle" they may be okay. It does sound to me like these were made incorrectly though. Would love to see how this turns out, however, notice this is NOT about a house fire but burns sustained from a tealite, guess I should have specified "sued over a house fire".
  2. Not your fault and you don't share any of the blame if you have the proper warnings and your candles are correctly made. There is inherent risk in using certain products and candles are one of them. With the large number of house fires caused by candles don't you think the large candle companies would have been sued out of business by now? That said, people can be sued by their insurance companies for starting a fire due to their negligent use of candles. If someone can show me ONE just ONE case of a candle company being sued with PROOF, i.e. court papers, dated newspaper etc. I would love to see it. I have been in this business for 15 years and not once has anyone been able to give proof ... one person tried some years ago but when asked to produce some kind of paper ANY kind they could not. Just sayin'.
  3. Used them some time ago. Had no problem getting orders etc BUT shortly after my Credit Card was charged small amounts over and over all in one day. Had only used the card for those orders .. fortunately I didn't have to pay the charges but you might want to be aware of this and keep a sharp eye on your charges if you do decide to order.
  4. You don't Trademark a label, a label will hold a copyright. Technically, you own the copyright to your label as soon as you create it. You can file for copyright protection but even without it you have the right to tell someone they are infringing on your copyright etc. some people will be compliant and some won't. Would you really hire a lawyer to enforce your copyright? If so then file for it...but remember you may want to change your label and you have to weigh the costs versus the risk/results.
  5. go to Amazon.com and do a search ... then read the reviews. Might help.
  6. GOOD GRIEF Lynn, SHE owes YOU money. tell her you will subtract the amount of the tarts etc from what SHE owes YOU for the first order YOU never got paid for... if there is a balance owed to YOU tell HER to send it to you. geeeeesh
  7. "It's not illegal unless the name was trademarked." Actually you can use a domain name even if it IS trademarked ... you just can't use it for any products that are TM'd. It's a bit$h when someone is using your TM'd name for their domain but legal. Sooooo snap up those names just in case.
  8. Am I the ONLY one here going ... REALLY??????
  9. Ya know, that mold looks just like ice cube trays I used to have. If you can find silicone they would work better ... you may still need to rubber band but they do provide a better seal.
  10. Not knowing what part of the country you are in here is a place to start: http://www.howtomakegelcandles.com/suppliers.htm I used to order from Polygon when I needed large amounts.
  11. ohhh darlin' m & p is not rocket science. It is one of the easiest things you can make and it is really really difficult to screw it up ... not saying you can't just that you have to work at it. The most important thing is to watch the heat when you are melting it, other than that it really can be ... melt and pour. Wishing you the best with this venture ...
  12. Make it easy on yourself and get a base or two with the additive in it , like shea butter. I use a cheap plastic wrap, cut it close to the size of the soap, then stretch it while covering the bar and wrap it around. I use Stephenson bases from here: http://www.chemistrystore.com/Products-Melt_Pour_Soap.html because they are close to me. I would choose 2 or 3 light, clean scents. Make it easy on yourself and the BCS group. JMHO
  13. no apology needed ... you were doing a good thing... as for it being "good business" to put a grieving family into collections ...uhhhhh I don't think so. American Express was the ONLY one to do this. Everyone got paid and the ones who offered condolences are companies our whole family still does business with.
  14. Ah darlin' , that is just my very personal feeling about a company so insensitive (and it's not like they were owed a lot either) and happened after losing our daddy just a few months earlier. We were flabbergasted by their response, especially when other companies were giving us condolences. Now everytime American Express comes up it just sets me off ... I'm sure any other business dealing with them would be fine, just don't die because your family won't be getting any warm and fuzzies from them...
  15. Excuse me but this is harassment pure and simple and it would seem to me walking into your stall without your permission would be a criminal act. Have you talked to a lawyer to see if there is anything you could do? If it were me, since you are in a large city, there will be agencies, low cost attorney help etc. and I would find a lawyer to talk to about suing his butt, issuing a cease and desist or something. I would not let him run me out .... I might put up a sign saying " If you hear bad things about our products, please consider the source. " I might even try to kill him with kindness ) Seems like his butt is probably very jealous of his mouth.
  16. Got up to "subsidiary of American Express" I will never EVER knowingly do business with american express again. When my mother died we called them to let them know and that as soon as the bank released her money we would pay the bill. Their response was to immediately put it into collections and have us called by a bill collector ... and the bill wasn't due yet ! Other companies sent condolences and asked if they could help. American Express? Have no use for them.
  17. I seeee LX ... need to take my own advice about reading because I was also thinking tapers ... sigh. http://rusticescentuals.com/Wick-Chart.html
  18. somewhere I have a spool of wicking and an actual dipping thingy I bought to do this ... a loooong time ago. Never got around to it though. A CD 12 will definitely not do it, you need a smaller wick and usually a square braid is recommended. you might do a Google search for wick charts to see what is suggested and where to find the correct wick. Have fun and be sure and show us your end results.
  19. The title of the post should have been "READ before you buy" geeeeesh. I've been pregnant a couple of times and hormones or not to try and cause a problem for sellers because you DID NOT READ is just WRONG. .... and I do not believe that the customer is always right because, just like this incident that is not always true. I don't blame them for moving on. I doubt they will lose any business from this and if they do it's probably customers that would cause problems anyway. geeeesh. Oh wait, I said that. Shame on the OP for trying to hurt a business because she can't read.
  20. The problem is you threatened them with a low rating ... WHY would they take the chance of you ordering and then you giving them a really bad rating? I understand why they canceled, they don't want to take the chance of their rating going down, that would cost them money and more customers. Then you come here and post "Beware of Venus Candles" ... honey I woulda shut you down too.
  21. It seems to me that they explain it very well IF you READ their listing. Too many people do not take the time to read about their purchase etc. and then get upset ... they seem pretty straight forward to me. Sooo you are ticked off because you didn't read the listing. BUT thanks for bringing them to my attention, I'm going to try them out now.
  22. Are you telling us that the studs have "blown out" of the palm wax pillars?
  23. First of all, the charms are not embedded much so I don't think they would "blow out". Also if they are lit I don't think it would matter at all. Haven't you ever seen "jewelry" for candles? or studs you put into them? The candles look wonderful and if you have 100plus I'd say you have enough to sell online. I'd try an Etsy shop first though.
