  2. Sigh...yes this has been happening to me too. I really (really) do not need any viagra....and then I also have gotten a bunch of them that are just gobbledygook. I wish whoever is doing it would get bored and move on.
  3. Is gel harder to do than wax? I think it's a matter of opinion and mine is no, they are not more difficult. Are they more dangerous? Again matter of opinion. whenever you are dealing with melting something and high heat it can be dangerous and you have to be very very careful. How is it possible to put silk flowers in gel? wouldn't it catch fire? Well hopefully they have double glassed or put a small votive in the top because I would think that indeed it could catch fire.
  4. If you are making your own embeds add UV inhibitor to them, add some UV to your gel and also color your gel the color of the fruit. That said I have a problem with the gel sucking the color out of the crusts after a while even when I've used the UV.
  5. Glue dots. You can go to www.NashvilleWraps.com do a search and see what they are. You'll have to do a google or something to find a place with a lower minimum but I usually buy from NW so I can't advise other places that might have them. HTH
  6. haven't seen this and have purchased/sold some: http://www.simmerpotrecall.com/
  7. Nurses are some of my best customers...they make good money and they will spend it. They also don't have a lot of time to shop. I get orders all the time....and with gas prices the way they are ... I'm just sayin' don't be too hasty to pooh pooh the events. I would consider them a sure thing...but that is here and you are there...
  8. I am all for faith and I have a lot of it....but we are told to be wise and not foolish. You can have all the faith in the world but if you are not using wisdom it will not help you and there are wiser ways to go about promoting yourself. People of faith fail in business all the time..it's not because they weren't faithful it's because they didn't use good business sense.
  9. I commend you for sending out the 500 samples you felt you were obligated to send...that is integrity. However, 10% is considered a very good return on something like that and even if you get 10% of the people buying from you I don't think that is going to even cover your initial out lay. Allowing people to down load a book you have written costs nothing compared to having to make up and mail out samples. Please do some more research because I do believe you are spending a lot more than you will ever see in return. If you want to get scent out to people why not do some snippets from room freshener paper? Cut a little piece, spray some fo on it put it in a small polypro bag and mail that. Will cost you the price of a regular stamp and won't run your business into the red. And yes, unfortunately there is a whole big wide world of moochers out there...and they have formed a network.
  10. HCPD II used for dipped and tapered candles...146* melt point....needs no additives...best wax I found for embeds, pie crusts etc. because it is a bit flexible. Don't think I ever knew any more about it than that....
  11. Some years back at the Gel Candle Convention in Vegas there was a machine that removed bubbles there...I remember thinking it looked just like they had taken the lids from one of the commercial food saver systems and attached it to some pieces and parts...As I recall the food saver systems (where you suck the air out of the freezer bags) had attachments that went to cannisters and you could suck the air out of the cannisters. Never got around to trying it though...
  12. Surely do not remember mentioning you by name......and if you are so sure of yourself why are you so defensive? People usually get defensive when something hits close to home...so if as you say " I am not self righteous, I do have common sense and am not a scaremonger." Then it shouldn't have bothered you. I do not have a problem with you having a different opinion than mine...even when what you do is unnecessary it is your choice to go the extra mile or so....and good for you for doing it.
  13. Well, you are putting just a bit on there to make it look juicy..you aren't covering the whole top...so you are using such a small amount it doesn't affect the melt pool at all. And I have burned many many pies and the gel separates from the embed wax...I could send you one if you'd like to see it:cheesy2: Now I don't advise using nonpolar fo's in gel, it does cloud it up and I don't like the look at all....and if this was more than just a tad of gel I wouldn't recommend it either but as it is it is fine. Like I said, common sense.
  14. I agree about disagreement:cheesy2: I think that instead of scaring people though common sense should be used...when you mix your wax with scent the scent is incorporated into the wax ...then if you add a tiny bit of unscented gel to the top after the wax is cooled you do not have enough gel to cause a problem. That gel is not going to mix in with the wax enough to matter, the fo from the wax is not enough even melted to cause a problem because it is incorporated into the wax. This really is not that difficult or that mysterious. I have been making and selling for over 12 years myself...nothing goes out untested or without great thought or I wouldn't still be in business. I am tired of people trying to scare others and being self righteous about how proper they are. Good grief it's a candle pie made of wax with a tiny bit of gel on top...polar fo's aren't needed ... good for you that you use them in every wax but it is just not necessary in this case.
  15. HAve to disagree based on experience. There is not enough gel there to cause problems...and if you have burned your pies you will see that the gel and wax seperate when cooled. We aren't talking gel pies with a lot of gel poured over the embeds but wax pies with just a bit of gel on top of them...makes a big difference.
  16. Since you aren't scenting the gel it will be fine to do that. Just make sure your gel is fairly cool or you will melt the insert...then again, a little bit of melted fruit can look more realistic.
  17. If you're candles are travelin' it might be good to put them in cello bags, just to keep dust etc off them. You can then unseal one of the bags of each scent so people can sniff them. You can find cello bags at Hobby Lobby or many places online.
  18. Thanks for the post...I am sooo happy the outlet is still there. When I started selling candles I went there and bought cases of wonderful glass ! I used to go visit my family every couple of months (14 hour drive for me) and always went to the outlet.
  19. Well IF they had a better reputation and were selling more than just a TM'd name that cost them around $300. I would wish them well. But I think that is a really steep price for just a TM'd name and one associated with delivery problems at that. Just MHO BTW I am willing to sell one of my federally registered TM'd names for just what I paid for it plus the $30.00 transfer fee...of course there is nothing good nor bad associated with it :lol
  20. Hope you will be able to check in more often now...you are one of THE gel experts. Sorry you are having to deal with those issues...
  21. It seems to me that when someone doesn't get what they want when they want it they blame the supplier or the business. It's never their fault for not following directions or not reading what is posted on the web site. So to get back they post something like this. Yes, I use DIY estores. Even when I have not read or followed the directions and asked a question I have always received a prompt reply or follow up. There are times I have been a royal pain in the arse, but I always get a nice reply to my question or my complaint. I have a complaint right now and it's not getting addressed the way I want it to...but that doesn't mean that DIY is unprofessional...it just means I'm not getting my way. I would recommend DIY to anyone, and have many times. That won't change.
  22. If you're going to quote the uspto.gov site on copyright don't just quote what suits you. Read on: Copyright Registration In general, copyright registration is a legal formality intended to make a public record of the basic facts of a particular copyright. However, registration is not a condition of copyright protection. Even though registration is not a requirement for protection, the copyright law provides several inducements or advantages to encourage copyright owners to make registration. Among these advantages are the following: Registration establishes a public record of the copyright claim. Before an infringement suit may be filed in court, registration is necessary for works of U.S. origin. If made before or within 5 years of publication, registration will establish prima facie evidence in court of the validity of the copyright and of the facts stated in the certificate. If registration is made within 3 months after publication of the work or prior to an infringement of the work, statutory damages and attorney's fees will be available to the copyright owner in court actions. Otherwise, only an award of actual damages and profits is available to the copyright owner. So what you have stated is incorrect...and so was that TV judge.
  23. I would be wondering why China would want to import candles (or anything for that matter) from here? They seem to make enough of them, as well as containers etc. and their labor and costs are much much cheaper. Just be cautious and investigate this thoroughly.
  24. I'm not sure you are doing anything wrong. The main "trick" to good scent throw is the FO. That said, I have used some FO's that everyone else swore threw like an Olympic javelin champ and I got zip, zilch, nada, nothing. Is this the only FO you are having trouble with? If so I say just move on. Save yourself some headaches.
