New recipe I came up with: 23% Lard 19% Coconut Oil 23% Olive Oil 8% Sunflower Oil 6% Sweet Almond Oil 6% Avocado Oil 4% Castor Oil 3% Apricot Kernal Oil 4% Cocoa Butter 4% Mango Butter 7.44 oz Lye mixed in 8 oz. Aloe Vera Juice 12 oz. Milk Mixture Milk Mixture: 57% Soymilk, 21% Goats Milk & 22% Coconut Milk. It's in the fridge now and so far it looks great! Kelly

I just ran this through MMS LYE Calc and I'm thinking my problem could be that I should have added 7.87 for my LYE amount (thats superfatted @ 5) Instead of the 7.6 which is superfatted @ 8. I must have written this recipe down wrong. Would this affect the softness of the soap wjen trying to unmold?

Now when you say 33% lye solution what is meant by that? Is that 33% LYE and 67% water? I've made maybe 10 batches of soap. So I am still learning. Also what is the purpose of the water discount?

What is the purpose of a water discount? And if I was doing this what is a safe amount to do this with?

Hi Everyone! I have the misty creek 15 bar mold which I love, however something I noticed and maybe it's my recipe, (I'll post that as well) is that when I cut and unmold it is soft towards the bottom and sticks to my freezer paper. This last batch I let sit for 3 days before I attempted to cut and unmold. Any ideas why this would happen? After it cures it makes a wonderful bar of soap. it's just cutting it and getting it out of the mold. Does the humidity have anything to do with this we have had terrible humidity for the last week. Got mine in a coop last year and gosh forbid I can remember who from. However it is a Bath & Body Works Duplicate and its out of this world. I'l ask around to see if I can find out where I got it from. I did a bit of research and I believe it came from IFT whomever/wherever that is. All I can tell you is that this fragrance is an exact duplicate and may even smell a bit better than the original from BBW. Kelly

I'm pretty new at GM myself but the last time I made GM what I did was mix my lye and aloe juice together first. I do a 40/60 solution of aloe juice and GM. I let it sit for about 6 or 7 hours on my front porch to cool. During this time I melted my hard oils and let them cool as well. I then mixed my other oils with the hard oils and let sit for about 2 hours. I keep my GM in the fridge. After my oils are at RT I then poured in my cold GM and stick blended them together. After I got them mixed well, I added my cool lye solution mixed to trace and then added my FO. After everything was mixed and I poured into my mold I then refridgerated it over night. IT turned out really really nice. It turned dark but that was as it was curing over the last week it got very very dark however I think thats because of the FO I used. Kelly

I don't know that there is neccessarily a purpose. I suppose you could use that side of the soap as a scrubby side perhaps on your feet or getting major yuck off of your hands. I was experimenting and being creative. Which is one of the great things I think about making soap. You can be as creative and unique as you want to be.

Your layered GM looks great! I have not attempted layering cp as of yet. One mastery at a time I suppose. I melted all of my hard oils and let them set for a couple of hours and my lye had set for a good 6. My GM was nice and cold as it had been refridgerated for quite some time. I have also found that mixing all of my oils together and letting them get to RT and then adding the cold GM works very well. (I believe that was another suggestion given to me here in another post :-) ) It gets a nice creamy appearance. I'm thinking maybe if I add my lye mix a bit slower maybe it will be lighter. Of course maybe without the vanilla beans in the soap and the coffee beans on top it might have come out a lighter color. Kelly

My color is a bit darker today but that could be because of the freshly ground vanilla beans and the coffee beans on top. I am very happy because this batch so far has turned out exactly as I had hoped. was attempting for a bit more white but I didn't get a pumpkin orange so any improvement id good for me.

A little while back I posted asking about my CP GM Soap I attempted and pretty much crashed and burned the first time. Not real pretty thats for sure and it did go in the trash! My second time was better but it did crack down the center because of getting to hot. Didn't ruin the soap but I wasn't happy either. I actually liked this soap after it finished curing. I made a 3rd batch last night but did not take pics. By this time I have come up with my own recipe.It started gelling. I forgot to put it in the fridge immediately. I ended up putting it in the freezer. Which did stop the gelling process and kept it from cracking. However I cut it a bit soon so I will have to do a bit of "dressing" it up after it's done curing. Tonight I did a little experimenting and I finally think I got the hang of making GM. I had no gel, no overheating, no cracking and a pretty light color. I may have added a few to many coffee beans but it will exfoliate nicely on the feet and you still have the smooth side for washing your body. I just wanted to thank everyone who replied to my GM post ( http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49757 ) asking for help awhile back. If it were not for your tips and tricks I would not be able to make GM Soap. Currently I'm doing a 60/40 liquid mix of GM & aloe juice. Kelly

For those of you who don't know I am obsessed with learning to make goats milk soap and I finally think I have got the hang of it! I've not made 100% Goats milk but it's 60% goats milk and 40% aloe vera juice for my liquid. Eventually I would like to make 100% Goats Milk soap but this is working so far. One step at a time. This is tonights concoction: I made some GM soap with freshly ground tahitian vanilla beans in the soap and fresh hawaiian Kauai beans on top, fragranced with Maple Brown Sugar FO. Smells great and so far it's a nice light color, no cracking and no overheating so far!!! It's only been an hour. Your comments are always welcome - good and bad! Thanks for looking. Kelly

I am pretty new when it comes to soaping. I've made maybe 10 batches at most, completely ruined 1 batch, most have come out pretty nice but I've had 2 of the ugliest soaps come out the best!

I normally put wax paper down first.

How well do these pop out of silicon molds? And is it possible to use the cigar wrapping method or does not this not work well?

Today was the last day of school (I'm a teachers aide) and I must have handed out 10 jars of this today. Mostly thank you's for the teachers being so nice to my son and for the retiree's. Well I'm in the middle of a retirement dinner and one of the teachers I gave it to had to call and tell me how much she loved it. She said it was a bit grainy but she liked it that way so for he r it was perfect. I do think I will use a little less oil next time though. The smell was out of this world and everyone just wanted to eat it. I did have a collegue tell me she wished her coffee tasted as good as this smelled. Thanks so much for posting this recipe! Kelly

Is there a reason for not using mineral oil or I guess what I want to know is why you would prefer not to?
