  1. Is it possible that not all the bleach rinsed off? Even a tiny amount I would think could cause a reaction in someone with sensitive skin. Is it possible you are having a reaction to the fragrance oil? If I use a fragrance that has any trace of cinnamon in it my skin gets red blotchy and stings like crazy. Have you tried using the base on its own? Its also possible some ingredient in the base is causing a reaction.
  2. Thanks everyone! I have yet to burn one when I can smell. So I may do that tomorrow. I can tell you they burn for at least 12 hours and they pool all the way to the sides and leave no wax in the votive holder.
  3. Thanks everyone. I appreciate your compliments. So far its burning nicely. Not sure if this one will last as long as I ran out of wicks, but if nothing else it will tell me how long that wick will last in a votive. I'm not sure about smell so of course I'll have to test these out again once I can smell. I am so sick right now its not funny.
  4. I am very new to candle making. I decided to be a little daring and try layering. Not to bad for a first timer at least I didn't think so. I have not done a test burn on the layered ones yet will do that in a bit. However the peach colored one is scented in Pumpkin Patch and has been burning for at least 13 hours. It pooled all the way to the sides and is burning the whole way down. No wax left on the sides and I can smell it with my stuffy nose. Not strong but I can smell it so I am assuming it has a good scent throw. These votives were made with a combonation of glass glow from candlescience and IGI 1724 Mottling Wax from Lonestar Candle Supplies. I also added just a bit of stearic and vybar. Tan layer is Cinnamon Crunch Cake White Layer is Toasted Marshmallow Brown Layer is Chocolate The peach colored votive is Pumpkin Patch These aren't for selling just for fun and learning. Thanks for looking. Kelly
  5. I'm kind of new to candle making and am only making votives at the moment but what does the term wick up mean?
  6. I got this wax from candlescience and I made my tarts and wickless candles all with their glass glow no additives, warmed the jars, insulated the jars and still no crystalization and the tops were just plain awful looking. The results I got today were beautiful compared to what I had in the past. Infact I may just keep this formulation for future or at least until my paraffin slab is gone. My test votive so far has been burning for 6 hours, has pooled (I think thats what its called) all the way to the edges and is burning nice and clean, no smoke, has a good scent throw. I couldn't ask for a better votive. I've only made votives a couple of times so this is just experimenting really. Thanks for your help. Kelly
  7. Well I didn't get any responses so I just gave it a whirl. I took 4 oz. glass glow from candlescience 4 oz. of pillar paraffin 1/4 t. vybar 1/4 t. stearic .7 oz Pumpkin Patch FO I made 5- 2 oz. votives and for the most part they turned out well. There were no crystals but, I have to say this recipe of sorts turned out better than the tarts and wickless candles I made with the glass glow itself.
  8. I have a big slab of parafin wax for pillars, other than that I don't know as I got it in a trade. I also have some glass glow palm wax. I am debating on experimenting and mixing the 2. What should my palm/parafin ratio be? And how much fo should I use ? Thanks Kelly
  9. My favorite patchouli blend is lavender, patchouli and vanilla.
  10. What is the best type of palm to buy for tarts? And who has the best palm to purchase? I called candlescience and even sent them pics. And I make all of my tarts the same way. Nothing different. Some turn out some do not. Candlescience seem to think it is a temperature thing, but I am pouring at the same temp, my tarts and containers are all at the same temp. They were not able to duplicate my problem. I used glass glow wax before and didn't have this problem and I thought I got it from candlescience, maybe it was from peaks I don't know. So now I am asking what do you use and how does it work for you? I melt to 200, color and fragrance then pour at 195. Kelly
  11. I tried with and without. The wax would not even adhere to the sides of my containers either. I even warmed and insulated them. Its as if I was sent the wrong type of wax? There is absolutely no scent throw when heated either. Kelly
  12. I have been using candlescience glass glow wax for awhile now to make my tarts. Up until today I never used a thermometer as I didn't have one and just kind of wung it. I would melt the wax, vybar and color in a double boiler, let it sit for 5 minutes, add fragrance, stir for a minute or so and then pour. I'm still pretty new at using palm wax. I've only made maybe 20#'s worth of palm tarts. Well when following the directions at candlescience I got awful results, no crystalization and they popped right out of my mold. The tops reminded me of a tortoise shell and honestly they had a soy like appearance. Ok even doing this my own way it is still continuing to happen, would the fo do this? Out of 5 fragrances only 1 turned out as it should. What am I doing wrong???
  13. How to figure out % to oz. of a recipe % x oz. (Ex) .05 x 54 oz = 2.7 oz. How to figure out oz. to % of a recipe Amount / total x 100 = % 10 oz. recipe 3 oz./ 10 oz. x 100 = 30% 2 oz./ 10 oz. x 100 = 20% 1.7 oz. / 10 oz. x 100 = 17% 3.3 oz. / 10 oz. x 100 = 33%

  17. I made my fall melts and wickless candles for selling at school over the weekend. My Flyer My Palm Tarts My Wickless Candles Of course now that I am looking at the flyer I suppose I should change the melts to tarts and make it consistant. Other than that what do you think?
  18. I wasn't aware that wally world or the dollar stores were selling them however when I made my flyer for school for selling mine a co worker said yankees are now going for 1.99 each. Holy Cow and I was only gonna charge .75 each. My boyfriend says I should charge at least 1.25, but I went with 1.00 for singles, 3.00 for 6 cavity clamshells and 5.00 for 4 oz wickless.
  19. Has anyone tried dipping rose petals in glass glow wax or any kind of wax for that matter. I have a ton of rose petals and I just made some tarts using glass glow palm wax and boy did they turn out beautiful. I was wondering though if the wax would crystalize on the rose petal? What do you think? Kelly
  20. I must have been having a moment because had I thought about it I would have not even asked. Duh! Thanks for the recipe. Will be trying it out soon~! Kelly
  21. Why do I need a preservative if I'm not using water? Honey acts as a natural preservative.
