  1. Sounds like water got into it somehow. I once had a metal bowl that had a tiny hole in the bottom of it that I did not know was there. You could only see a bit of discoloration where it looked like it had scorched. While washing it I found the hole. Also if your inner pan is too shallow perhaps some of the water boiled up over the edges, it could have tipped, who knows. I'd add a hand full more base and try to remelt just to see if you can burn off or dilute whatever it is that got into it. ETS: Even though you feel like you stirred it well, sometimes that is the culprit with heavier types of oils. Seems Eucalyptus and Peppermint are both one of those oils that i have had the same issue with... you think you have stirred it well but as soon as you stop it settles into the bottom of the pan. If this is the case, I would guess you can tell so by taking a whiff. The gooey batch would be way stronger and almost unpleasant in fragrance. Just a thought though! <shrug> Let us know how it turns out if you try or do fix it.
  2. Lmaoooo... I'm sitting here reading this and i'm wondering why isn't ANYONE saying you CAN'T put Melt & Pour in lip balms!!! Don't mind me. I don't think I slept well and I'm stressing over a M&P swap cuz they keep calling me into work on my days to get it done! So I totally read Melt & Pour SOAP in the recipie. :tiptoe:
  3. It would mean changing your recipie alltogether to do this, but I bet it would work best to approach it from the stand point of a liquid soap that you suspend something like ground loofa, walnut meal, etc. MK made a Smoothie Hand Scrub that is in a pump, and has apricot seed POWDER, and Peach seed POWDER. I keep it at the sink for those really messy hands and I savor it because it was a limited edition, lol. Sometimes if I haven't used it for a while though, the pump can become clogged. And even when it's not clogged, it's not always really easy to pump if I haven't used it lately either. But I think the size of the scrub ingredient is what's important when it comes to suspension and pumpability. That's why I would suggest Loofah, as it seems it would be lighter weight. Jojoba beads would suspend well too maybe.
  4. I think everything is wonderful and I bet they are even better in person. I would perhaps suggest changing the 'Depressed' piggy name to 'Sad' Piggy. But maybe that's just me, lol. Sad is somehow socially aceptable... the other is ...quite depressing. (pun intended, lol) You could add a brown piggy and call it chocolate, or two tone black/white or brown/white and call it Spotted... maybe a tan one and call it bacon? Lol- ok maybe that's depressing too, lol.
  5. DH was telling me that we are now IMPORTING wheat. No one wants to grow it because corn is in demand and pays more. What happened to 'Amber fields of grain'? He also said that it takes enough corn to make that one gallon of ethanol as it does to feed a man for an entire year. And I just wonder.. do the tractors they use to plow all these corn fields come in ethanol burning versions? It's great in theory, and it's nice to be able to say we have that choice... but it really doesn't make any sense on the whole. There's got to be a better way. Locally we are extremely green and hippified. Tons of bike traffic. They are moving an entire bike/pedestrian bridge ONE BLOCK to make it easier for them to get where they need to go. If those 'green' bikers and walkers don't pitch a fit then they are all hypocrites. Off my soapbox now too, lol.
  6. Caffeinated Confections Barrista Bakery Bistro Bakery Cozy Cafe' Warm Oven Bistro/cafe Morning Meeting Fog Lifter (stolen from an actual coffee name ) Morning Shift Early Bird (cuz the early bird always gets the best donuts and confections!)
  7. I'm not familiar enough with them yet to give you a supplier for it, but if you can find a 'Fried Icecream' Fo that would be a good one. Like Scented said, basicly vanilla & Cinnamon. Tres Leches Cake (sp?) is what the Mexican culture use a lot as birthday cake... Looks like a normal white cake, but the base of it is literally soaked in a sweet milk. I've received a candle made with this type of FO though and it was very weak. So if you use it, up the % I'd say. (the soggy cake wasn't very good either, lol) Anything Mango or Guava, Apricot, Mandarin, Tamarind, Vanilla, lime... Sweet Orange & Chili would be a good one.
  8. Tru dat! So would the easiest thing be to add her weights of organics and compare that to the non organic weights for a % ? I know that doesn't give you a formula, Soft, but it will give you the right numbers to work with. (thank God for online HS resources! ) I'm just going to bow out of this one now, lol:tiptoe:
  9. Ok, I am the worst one at percents (and math in general) but I just happen to be doing fractions with my DD homeschooling right now... Wouldn't this be 75%? At least for your specific example... 12 ingredients can be broken down in four groups of 3... 9 of them organic is 3/4 of the entire amount right? I think she's not trying to say 'Organic' - knowing you can't be vague like that and mean to convince people it's 100% ... but to rather specify the actual amount. I can't say for sure but I don't think it's the same thing as the 'Organic' claim... should be just fine to state the specific amt of 'organic'.. even if it isn't 100 % and especially because it isn't 100%. Did I just make any sense? lol
  10. My only issue with making MP too far ahead is that depending on your dyes, they either bleed or worse- fade- and really turn something not so pretty over time. So if you have a great coloring agent that sticks, it's atually GOOD to let M&P sit for a while to cure up. It seems to last longer when you do.
  11. Also check that it's actually 'smoke' and not just 'steam'. There is an errant amount of moisture that can steam off as it heats up.
  12. Honey Bee Good To Me ?? ( I wasn't going to reply till I thought about it and had a few ideas but this just came to me so I bes put it out there before I forget!)
  13. I think your themes fit right in with the whole Egyptian culture...think 'Milk and Honey'. There are SO many milk powders and variations of milk powders, honey powders, clays, that make wonderful B&B products. I would create a line of milk and honey milk baths and or salts, then incorporate specific EO's, herb infusions, etc to each to market each one as being for a differnt benefit. Like Camphor, Rose, Eucalyptus for a muscle releif bath. Then do one with Lavender, Chamomile, and something for Relaxation. You might have to do your research if you want to be true to the Egyptian culture and what they had available at the time, region, etc- OR you can say 'It's what Cleopatra would have used if it were available!' Or something or other to that effect:smiley2: Just about any kind of powder or clay can be incorporated into a bathbomb or scrub. Honey and milk powders are powerhouses in skin care / B&B line. Personally, I think it's a perfect fit. I think they Egyptians are one of the more famous cultures for using natural items for everyday beauty and health. It would be great to find a way to use 'Milk'N'Honey' in a business name somehow, or at least an extensive individual line. I imagine a larger semi translucent golden 'drip' shape with a smaller white repeat image inside the bigger gold one. Have fun! I just thought of 'Pampered Pyramid' ... but is it just me or does that sound like 'Pampered Period' ?:undecided
  14. If you have a scent list on your site that describes each scent, then I think you can get away with not having to have the 'exact' note of the scent in the name.. for instance Fresh Roses could be Boudoir Bouquet or... Fresh Roses~ Gelluminations~ Bama Bouquet, (Or if going with an earlier suggestion to use something more feminine for your 'Southern Belle' scent, this would be perfect for Rose) Buttercream~Gell~ Buttercream Frosting, Clean Cotton~Gell~ Cotton Fields Cool Water Type~Gell~ Southern Beau Country Garden~Peaks~ Southern Belle Gardenia~ Gell~ (I think I may keep this one as gardenia.) Apple Cobbler Delight~ FOH~ Spiced Apple Cobbler, I would lead with the 'Spice' title if you feel it really is strong on the spice. Otherwise it might be misleading. But I haven't sniffed it. Bedtime Bath~ FOH~ Southern Sunset (opposite of Southern Sunrise ) Baby Powder~ Gell~ Clean Youngster (I really need yalls opinion on this one..) The word 'youngster' is somehow not very free flowing... maybe Clean Young'n or Little One. Baby Powder to me, is not so much a 'clean' scent as much as it is a 'soft' one. So if it were me, I'd not go the way of 'clean' anything for this one. But maybe that's just me. Cranberry Citrus~ Gell~ Cranberry Craze, Cranberry Sunset Georgia Peach~ Gell~ Georgia Peach French Vanilla~ Gell~ Vanilla, Leenabug's Sweet Milk Vanilla would work well Louisianna Lace or Vanilla Lace or Antique Vanilla - I think that would indicate a richer, tanner type vs. straight Vanilla Fresh Brewed Coffee~ Gell~ Early Mornings, Southern Sunrise Magnolia~ Gell~ Mississippi Magnolia Strawberries and Cream~ Gell~ Southern Shortcake, Savanna Shortcake Leather~ Gell~ Leather, 8 Second Survivor, Rodeo Ranger, Rough Rider, Bronc Bustin', Saddle Up Kudzu~ Alabaster~ Alabama Kudzu Fruit Slices~ Gell~ Fruit Fair, Fruit Festival, Fruit Stand, U pick, Country Fair ('round these parts that would mean a Hemp scent and naked hippies, lol... but i'm sure it's totally different there, lol) Southern Punch Fresh Cut Grass~ Gell~ Just Bailed Hay , Kentucky Blue Grass, Fields Without Fences, Derby Dreams, Pitch Fork Hawaiian Breeze~ Gell~ Summertime Sunset maybe? That's good, or Savannah Sunset (it's on the coast right?) Or Coastal Calm, Wish You Were Here, Tropical Dreams. Also, I've suggested a lot of 'Sunset' names it seems- but i'd avoid using it too often in your line. So maybe Savanna Sea ? 'Southern' is ok to use again and again though since that is your theme. Cucumber Melon~ Gell~ Columbus Crawl (ha ha, that's a joke- I used to live in Columbus:p right on the border of Columbus, Ga and Phoenix, Alambama... the men would go to the down town district in Phoenix to meet women, and 'crawl' home. Anyhoo- yer too young to know about that:shocked2: I'm distracted, lol- I can't think of anything for this one.
  15. It's a pretty safe bet that if they haven't hardened up with in 2-3 days max, they won't continue to get harder after that. At least, this is what i've learned in my minimal batches with quite a few failures in that dept, lol. The good ones will be hard the next morning/day and it will be obvious that they worked out. I think the trick to preventing the cracks- in theory- is to be sure you are truly overstuffing the mold. Seems my cracks always begin at the point of adhesion (2 pc ornament) where it must not get equal pressure as the top and bottom points. And i'm sure SOMEONE knows an ingredient that would also help in this area, lol. Gotta be a trick.
  16. I wish I did, I would love to learn how and offer them with my own photography and all that, but alas... i'm code challenged, lol. You might want to PM Jadewicks or Jadryga on here. And there are others as well, those names just stick out right now as some of the graphics people here. Must be on a 'j' kick today.:rolleyes2 I wasn't even sure what a 'webset' was so I did a quick google on it, there were lots to look at. Good luck with it!
  17. Ok, I was just visiting this thread for the first time and when I got to the end of it, with all the 'Patricia' suggestions- made me think of Patricia's Place by the Sea, or Patricia's Seaside Cabin of Gifts- Plain ol Patricia's Place or Patricia's Cabin When it comes to our Oregon coast, I like names with 'Nook' in them. Like Patricia's Nook or Patricia's Nook by the Mook ( I happen to really like that one, but it may not be 'upscale' enough.. but you could make it so with the right font, etc) Patricia's by the Sea Forest Waves Candle & Bath Co. Emerald Waves '' '' Coastal Pines Ocean Pines I live in Oregon, I could go on and on and on and...
  18. Ditto what Dolphin said. Anything metal, with a spout and cover. These small amounts need to stay warm and give you time to carefully pour. Almost has to be metal. Something glass would be second best. But a creamer dispenser is the perfect thing.
  19. Oh that's just terrible, lol. I woudn't want too many details on all that either.
  20. They look lovely and fresh and good for you. Loving the labels too!
  21. Maybe it's a girl and they are going to name it 'Jasmine'... lol...it could happen! That's one big baby shower*faint* And some very pretty, colorful soapies.:highfive:
  22. I think it's a fine idea and normal way to do things. If your original name is very specific to one kind of product category it can be stiffling when you branch out into other products. So it would probably be in your best interest to have a separate entity that would make more sense. A large part of product recognition and branding is when the customer can easily associate the name to the product. Think of all the suppliers that have entirely different labeling and company names for the specific sides of their business. Works well for them!
  23. Awwww! That is so sweet of you! Thank you so much for taking a chance on me. Thank you everyone! I haven't made soap, or melts or ANYTHING for ever now, lol... but that's ok because I think I get more joy out of the challenge of this kind of work. Weird, I know, lol. :rolleyes2
  24. So far I have used Ocean Rain and Almond. I'm not an almond fan at all, but it is 'nice' and hubby & DD just love it. I really loved the Ocean Rain- but my mother, who normally loves Ocean-y scents, says it's 'ok' -but reminds her of Aqua -Velva. I can't confirm this as I've never sniffed it that I know of, lol. I was sure it would be a hit with her... go figure. :rolleyes2 I did paly around and mix one batch of OR with just a bit of a citrus - don't recall which one at the moment( i think maybe Lime Cooler)- and I liked it even more. Did a bit of a swirl with a dk clear blue base and clear lime/yellow green stirred in. I called it Tropical Tides. Even if dear mother doesn't love it, lol.. I'll do it again!
