  1. I believe that the starch is a more broken down product. If that makes any sense. It's a finer grind and more pure. They are essentially the same but with different compositions. I use T. flour in my bathbombs and scrubs as well, and that's because I can get it locally. And I do really like it. But I can't say that I've ever compared the two to really say if they offer the same feels or not. I am very happy with the T. flour though. I have found other starches such as Wheat and Potato at Asian markets. I've used them as well but have not done so enough or done any real comparrisons to say if they are as good or not. But i've also used them in my bathbombs and got great comments on the feel of skin afterward. I tend to use a lot of ingredients so I will often use a combination of these starches and flours.
  2. :embarasse Hee- there was one called that wasn't there? But given the Ginger-slash-spice factor... it REALLY is a good name, lol.
  3. Pineapple Express is an awesome name!:highfive:
  4. I sent mine just because I know that when I look at any kind of wax creation for sale... I sniff it. And when it has nothing to offer my nose, I'm instantly not interested. I realize though, that they won't become room fragrance-ers when tossed in the fire necessarilly. Some might for a short while, most probably won't though. But "I' know that's not what they are for, so I wouldn't be disappointed if they didn't work that way even though they smelled good when I bought them. I do, however, also believe that if they are scented well they can work as good as any bowl of potpourri. And in a warm environment (somewhere near the fire) your chances of a SLIGHT scent escaping are good. So that's why I scent mine. Mine are also made of leftover wax and if I don't like the combined fragrance- it often helps to add a bit of either Vanilla, Cinnamon, or Pine. They can help to compliment just about any scent conglomeration and tame it down or round it out! I do think you should give it a name though. As a consumer I'd always ask if it didn't say. It can be as simple as 'Fall Potpourri Scent' if it's Cinnamon heavy, or 'Summer Surprise' if it's fruity, etc. That way you are not locked into any descriptive type of name, and your actual scents can fluctuate with out having to rename.
  5. Lol... don't be afraid. You can do it! It'll be fun! Really! Lol. I almost always add sugar to my very hot base to blend it in to the base its self- i'm not even exactly sure why but I think I read it helps with bubbles. Of course, they could have meant if you make it a scrubby type layer it helps, I dunno, lol. Just don't try to make a salt type bar version of a sugar scrub bar. That doesn't work. There is a very extensive thread on that, lol. That kind of soap bar DOES get mushy/melt quickly even when semi successful. I'm really terrible about exact measurements, but i'd say if you add it the same as you would corn meal (amount wise) you will have lots of saturation room before you get to the point of 'sugar scrub bar mush'. C'mon.... Ya know ya wanna.
  6. Sugar won't hurt anything... won't be mushy. Just make sure you have more base than sugar, lol. But it still won't be as 'scruby' as the cornmeal would be. If you have it in your kitchen, try a larger grain sea salt, or even Epson. It will settle to a layer though unless you really keep stirring or have a suspension base. The risk then is also that it actually 'stirs' into the base and is dissolved. So you will have to play with it - but don't be afraid to either. It won't get mushy though if you keep your proportion of base at a higher % than the sugar/salt/whatever you use for that matter. Not sure about 'white and sparkly' though. It looks more like zillions of tiny air bubbles if in clear soap.
  7. Do you have any upcoming shows for the fall or holiday season? If so - and if you haven't already- you could mention that they can find you there 'just in case' they aren't able to place an order due to backed up orders. Something to that effect anyways. I think you are maybe a tad more worried then necessary though. You can only do what you can do. If they can't understand that you are one person, then they will have to go somewhere else. You can't possibly serve all the readers at your current state of preparedness and business size. Many will order just to support you... and they will be the ones who won't mind waiting. I would rather be a busy fool than foolishly overstocking. But I guess it's best to find a happy medium somewhere in between. Best of luck to you. :highfive:
  8. From what I gather from the original question is that she wants to add FO to the melted and contained wax. It doesn't matter if it is too much according to what the wax will hold. It's contained and other than what sits on top, there really isn't a concern of seepage. Once it's been put on the warmer and is melted out of it's original state, she's not repackaging it or selling it I don't think, right? She just wants to extend it's life. I did this with my first two batches of tarts. I was too afraid of adding too much so they were short lived and not as strong as I wanted. I decided making them was so much more trouble than just adding a cap full of fo to the hot pot, lol.

  10. Not sure of your exact procedure, far as how/when you melt the beeswax and then add it to the m&p, but it might be that the beeswax is not completely melted? It has a way higher melt point than m&P and it might be cooling down too much when added to the soap base. Not sure, but just a thought.
  11. Hmm, let's see... Since fall is approaching I can imagine a few fall-ish type names... I haven't sniffed it so it's jes names Fresh As Fall Country Linnens Fresh -N- Fancy Tropical Treeline Flight of Fancy Trail Mix Mountain Mix Cottage Coture Cottage Closet
  12. I'm just going to throw this in for good measure and my own curiosity... because I believed computers to be supercharged word processors and that you do not have to type 'space-space' after a period as the computer's programming does the initial space advancement for you, so you just advance one more. It was only in typewriting class (on an actual typewriter) that I was taught 'space-space' -once in order to advance it off the period placement it's self, and once to give the only space needed...if that makes any sense. Not to harp on a nitpicky subject but that's just what I thought. But hey, if I'm wrong I'm wrong- and totally willing to be told so!:smiley2:
  13. I mixed a woodsmoke scent with a rose musk scent and an equal amount of pine... and called it Victorian Fireside. It's a personal fave of mine, but was a bit disappointed that you could not really smell the pine... not because of the smoke though. It was the Rose that over took everything.
  14. To me, a lotion is made to be extra emollient and rich and is MADE to remain behind. Where as a conditioner for hair is made to rinse clean. If your hair can handle it, you could use lotion for hair, but not every one across the board can nor every lotion across the board should be used in such a way. Also, I'm sure some lotions have things that might be a bit harsh on hair and could actually cause it to dry out after a while. But there is no strict reason why you can't try it as each one will give different results. I wouldn't suggest rubbing it into your scalp though. I would guess that things are more readily absorbed through your scalp and it's really the ends and top layer that would need the extra moisture of a lotion.

  16. If you can't get heat to it, try the opposite. An ice cube on top of it for instance will harden it so that it chips off rather than smudges off. Also, depending on the location... I've also heard that you can place an old towel over top of it and then take a hot iron to the towel. The wax will transfer into the towell. This is normally for clothing and upholstry though. So on a solid surface, you might still have the residue. So either hot or ice cold would be the best ways to make a clean break of it. Good luck. :-)
  17. I was thinking draft also. Sometimes they will say 'No, I didn't have it by a window or fan or anything.' But come to find out it's by a heater/ac vent or high traffic/door area, ceiling fan etc. Air currents travel more than we think and a teeny bitty lil tea liite can not expect to compete. It definitely needs the build up of heat to do any melting. Jes never know. It's funny to have to play detective about such things but ... they happen. :rolleyes2 Now that you have burned it and seen that it's fine, i'm curious what this person is thinking now and do they feel assured that it was/is a perfectly good melt/warmer.
  18. Danish, Tea, Or Me? Lol- 'sall I got. No creative cap on today!
  19. I'm thinking... Pink Cotton Pink Clouds Tickled Pink Cuppy Cake Tender Tulip ( personally I never thought they had much smell, but if you called it that and I seen it- I'd beleive it. ) Pink Pillow Pillow Fight Pink Passion Diva Glass (or Pink) Slipper Playful Personally... I'm not a huge fan of 'Pink' anything. So the very word 'Pink' would be sure to turn me away from just about anything... sad and anal as that is. :rolleyes2 Pink is just one of them colors you either hate it or love it.
  20. Has anyone considered that maybe she's actually hearing something?? Lol- the poor thing- but i'm serious. She could have really great hearing that is picking up on numerous bug/critter noises either in the walls or in her own mind -- just from having the 'fears' of them at all. I only suggest it because if she is making herself bleed from scratching/swating at her ears sooo much- then i'd be really concerned it's beyond simple immagination or dreams. I wonder if some music would help? Maybe let her have a lil bitty tv in her room that she can sleep with it on. Kids (and grownups ) need their sleep- maybe she could have the kidz music channel set on the tv or something...it couldn't be near as bad as the constant issue of the nightmares. I really feel bad for the poor dear! Best of luck to all dealing with this kind of issue.
  21. Lmbo... I was going to say Texas Trail for the nature walk one, and just as I pushed reply I seen that Candlelady already did! So I second that! Some other ones... Forest & Ferns Tree House Woodland Walk Quatro Berry Berry Parade Huckblarasmulberry:grin2: Berry Quartet Berry Mountain Berry Peaks Peek-a-Berry
  22. I've never used it raw from the plant and I wouldn't even begin to know how or if it should be treated any differently than any other kind you can normally buy. BUT... if I were experimenting I would probably try to incorporate it into a balm/lotion stick, body butter/lotion or sugar scrub. Sugar Scrub or balm being the easiest. It would also be great for an after sun spray or lotion stick. Just remember it's not been preserved and you will have to do that. Wish I could be more help and more specific. Maybe others will chime in their experience working with the real original thing.
  23. Awwww Jen....:awww: But don't you know that by the time she is 24 and still borrowing money you will begin to wonder just WHEN will she grow up? Lol. I hope she reminds you that she will always always need you and think of you as the same mom you always were. See, that's the thing... they grow up, but we never really change do we? So I'm sure she sees you the same as always. Minus the teenager tude stuff here and there! I hear ya though. I only have one and she just started her monthly. At quite young I might add, but she LOOKS 13 soooo her body is just more 'grown up'. And I know the rest is to follow. She will be taller than me too soon... and that's what I won't know how to handle, lol. How will I make her clean her room? (sorry to hijack- but I had to cheer up my buddy!)
  24. Granted, that's absolutely a possibility CB! But I'm not sure what other suggestions one could give other than to just write it off, and I'm too inquisitive and stubborn to do that so quickly, lol. If it was 'me', I'd want to know if it was a simple matter of too much oil / water left in the second half of the batch. The only way to really know that is to dilute the possible oil/water with more straight base. But again, it would depend on your supply of M&P and how precious it is to you and how hard it may be for you to get. So heed CB's words and do what ya can.
