  1. Just wanted to pipe in that I've done it on my tarts many times. A table spoon give or take... at times it seems to have helped, and at times I don't notice much of a difference. But I've never really done any kind of blind test where I used the same FO, wax, colorant, etc each time with and with out the crisco and properly compared it. But if I have straight parrafin I will usually add some anyways just to give it a friendlier aesthetic. Crisco is just soy oil that is whipped up in a different form. Someone on this board has made a candle out of 100% Crisco just to see if it could be done, and I do believe the answer was yes! Lol. My personal opinion is that it's a decent additive to have around in your arsenal. But don't expect too much from it. Much of what you hear, just as ChrisR said, was true at one time but things have changed so much. I think more than anything, it's more in the combination of perfectly coexisting factors that will make it do it's magic. Like some waxes don't do well with some FO's... Crisco is just another additive that you have to figure out. It may work fantastically in the right combination. But merely adding it at all isn't where the magic is.
  2. Isn't there an Apple called a Pink Lady or something? There is also an apple sauce that is sometimes pink.. no? Maybe call it Saucy Apple, lol. And if you put any kind of melon or berry in the name- it can strangely miraculously translate to people's noses, and it will make sense. Like, Berry Spicey Apple or Appleberry Strudel.
  3. I always have to start off letting you all know that my nose is very inexperienced... BUT I recently ordered Feng Shui Earth from SOS and it smells like Woodland Trails to me. (Or at least what I remember it smelled like). Could be worth a try. You can get 5 sniffie vials from them for $2.99 shipping or something like that if you don't want to take too much of a risk.
  4. On the one hand... simply remelting the batch- with out adding extra wax- will be probably enough to weaken the fo. Naturally some of the oomph in the FO will burn off just like the first time you burn a single tart. But on the other hand, if one tart is too strong how will you be able to handle an entire batch in a melt pot:shocked2:? Lol... I'm just sayin'!
  5. Pwillo's suggestion of peachy sheets made me think of Peachy Pillow(s) Tangerine Dream Lullaby Land Orchard Fresh Laundry Orchard Overalls
  6. Hello sniffers! I just seen this thread and thought I'd toss my two cents in on an oil I just got in from SOS. I haven't actually used it in anything yet, but oob to my nose it definitely has a strong pumpkin note. But you would never know it by the name really. I don't even remember the description saying anything about it having pumpkin in it. It's called Indian Harvest. It has just a bit of a green/sweet note, a nutmeg-y soft Cinnamon-y spicey note, all held together with a real mellow buttery note. Smells like... Halloween! I dunno... my nose isn't very trained, lol. But I'm guessing some of you pumpkin lovers will find it worth it to give it a try.
  7. I would try an extra hot layer of clear, white or whatever color you wanted to add between the layers... and then do not rush the cooling or put in the freezer, etc. And of course that would only work if each layer is solid in and of it's self. Usually though once one layer has cooled not even an alcohol spritz can make the next layer adhere. So it's a very intricate dance of timing at the time of adding layers. And one I can't always keep up with! Depending on the size of the soap, for instance if it is a smaller guest soap or something, you can try plopping the two layers into a larger mold of a clear base, so that it becomes encased in a solid layer front back sides etc. I would still add some clear or white between the layers though. The extra hot-ness will help to break down the barrier/film that each solid layer now has. Good luck and let us know what you decided to do and if you were able to save it and how it turns out:smiley2:
  8. Somehow I got into the habit of adding steric to my tarts. I think I started doing this because I began with the really soft 6006 wax. I also like to add a bit of straight canning paraffin wax to up the hardness. And now that I use a different wax, I still do it out of habbit I guess. I don't know that it really helps or hurts. I don't sell my tarts but I'm very happy with them. Maybe I'm just biased, lol. As a consumer of tarts, having to pop them in the freezer is just part of life to me. Sometimes ya do, sometimes ya don't. :smiley2:
  9. I never seen this thread before myself, and though I'm a fledgling at it I will add my business url for those in need of copy writing or editing services. I do brochures, business cards, labels, about me pages, product descriptions, introductory emails, web scans (scanning entire website for editing errors) etc etc etc.... just about ANY kind of text copy that is needed. The art of the written word is a passion of mine and I love a challenge. www.freewebs.com/blazingproductions/index.htm
  10. Maybe it's the Tooth Fairy's Friend because the tooth fairy wants you to take care of your teeth and this way you get that sweet candy fruity flavor fix with out the harmful effects. But, if you have put a disclaimer on it, it's probably not worth it, lol. :tiptoe:
  11. Dohhh.... Lol. I guess it would depend on the application! I was thinking candles, lol...didn't catch the 'FLAVOR' part of the oil. My bad. Far far away from the mouth. One would hope.
  12. Joyous Farmer - just kidding :rolleyes2:cheesy2: Candy Sprite Pixie Fruit going off MiniiB's rainbow idea..... Tie Dye Taffy Fruity Fun Spastic Fruit Fruit Nibbles Monkey Feast (that's how we get Monkey Farts after all)
  13. I have seen Honey and black berry it seems. How about.. Vanilla/Honey Mint/Honey Red Clover/Honey Apple/Walnut?/Honey Cinnamon/Honey A bread FO and a Honey FO might make a Honeybun type combination. Lime and Honey SOUNDS like it would be intriguing but how does it smell? - I don't know, lol. Maybe Lemon and Honey. It makes a good cough drop anyways.
  14. Just wanted to say that it looks very nice. I didn't have trouble reading anything with any of the color choices... but like most others, a few of the letters weren't immediately obvious as to what they were. But, lol... from a copywriters point of view I hope you don't mind me pointing out just a few minor things that I noticed. First of all, in the line 'Our clean burning, soot free,...' The commas look like periods, which breaks the flow of the read and I think this adds to the confusion/difficulty of the unique font. The second comma actually does look more like a comma if I squint and look really close. But the first one does not. It should be possible to increase the font size of just the commas which should help them contribute to the sentence and be more conducive to it's flow. More importantly though, I'm just curious why the tag line of 'welcome to quartz mountain' is not capitalized. It seems that the business name at the very least should ALWAYS be. Sometimes this is done purposefully though. Say... if your whole website font and feel is really informal and nothing on the site is cap'd at all. So maybe it's just me, but it feels strange to read a business name and it not be in caps. It is overall lovely and succeeds in conveying a certain style that reflects the quality of your products.
  15. Also if they just updated or changed their site, it may not have an updated security certificate that a program will look for to assure it's security. Sometimes they expire and it will take a while for the site owners to update, and or the new site info doesn't coincide with the registered certificate, etc etc.
  16. Here is my list of pros and cons.... Plastic is easy to collect a variety of shapes, they are often cheaper and more sturdy when moved if wax is in a soft state. And if you are short of time and want to rush them out of the mold it is more difficult, but given proper cure time they will THEN come out easier. It can be easy to damage the plastic molds by trying to force them out, or even by improper storage. Eventually the plastic molds get brittle, and they are often not deep enough if it is actually a candy mold. Good for embeds of some sorts. But the bigger actual soap molds that are plastic are fine of course... but you almost have to fill every cavity so as to prevent any tilt or lean in the flat surface of the soap because they need to be balanced. They don't work well for one test bar/tart here or there. If you are impatient or don't have a lot of room you might find yourself trying to move them around before they are done.. this is nearly impossible to do with the flexible silicone molds. It sometimes takes more silicone molds to make the same number of candy mold tarts, so that is a cost increase as well. Plastic molds seem to help the tarts cool faster but again, that's usually because of the dept of wax you are able to pour into them. I prefer the silicone molds purely for reasons of removal- but I wouldn't refuse to use a plastic one if it suit my purpose either. And I don't spray my molds with anything because I don't want it on my tarts, lol.
  17. Could they mean things like Vitamin E and other 'healing' beneficial properties? I don't know about the validity of it all, but even if it's true to an extent my take on it is that SOME benefit is better than NO benefit right? Of course putting some Emu oil in your soap is not exactly akin to rubbing it directly on your skin, but it's STILL better than not at all. So what's the harm in trying to put healthy and good for you stuff in some soap. They jes need to chill, lol.
  18. Yep, Meridith is right. Dendritic salt was pretty much 'made' for use in bath salts. By that I mean it's perfect for them because of the nature of the surfaces of the crystals that allow them to hold more FO. Have fun with it!
  19. Hmm...it does sound yummalicious! Stained Glass Fruit & Cream Pillows & Jewels (Jeweled) Cake De' Jour Hmm... I know theres something better but I can't get it out, lol. Maybe I'll try again later, lol. :rolleyes2

  25. I don't have a glass cup either so I use tupperwares (real and generic) and don't have any problems. I generally melt larger qty's with the double boiler method and then will melt my different colors/scrub layer, etc. batches real quick in the mircro. Btw... does anyone know what glitter in soap base will do in the micro? Lol, i've often wanted to rebatch a bit but am pretty sure I shouldn't if it has glitter in it. I can't tell what the general rule is if soap glitters, etc are metallic enough to cause a problem. I don't cover anything in the micro, but try to use a pan lid on the dbl boiler just to keep the heat in and help it melt faster.
