  2. SOme people use a hair blow dyer until they graduate to the heat gun. Some prefer the blow dyer. Personally mine never got hot enough. I bought my heat gun, in the painting section at Ace Hardware. It has 2 settings 1000 degrees and something like 750 degrees. I love love love it! It is a very wise investment. You will find a million and one uses for it. Leveling, cleaning molds, cleaning tools, smoothing tops of container candles, etc. etc.... A definate must have as far as tools are concerned. Mine was $20 and they were like $19 at wal-mart without the second setting. I shopped around a bit first.
  3. which pot? The larger or the smaller one? the one that holds 4lbs or i think 2lbs?
  4. I do not have a business. I am really just in it because I am addicted to making candles. I have only ever had probably a dozen or so actual "orders" ..you know the cleaning lady at work, a friend of a friend, and so on. (Just got a big order of over $50.00 ..so excited!! my biggest ever!!) I am saying this for you to understand that I do not buy anything in bulk really but last month alone I spent about $400. I am not really sure what I spend a year. I have been doing lots of buying lately due to experimenting with tons of new stuff, so it would not be accurate to take that and use it to calculate an average.
  5. someone also told me to put baking soda in the aloe vera gel to take some heat out. Well I tried that to and it didn't help. I just made me all crusty and made it sting more. Thanks for the tips. I also have a little spray bottle with white vinager and water. It is not helping much either. .. I will have to try the yogurt.. of to the supper market after work!
  6. I only make candles right now. I admire all you soap and B&B people. You go!! Ok I keep hearing (reading) about a bath melt that soothes sunburn. I am not sure which one of you guys makes it, but I need some!!!!!!!!!! anyone know who makes these? I am soo sunburned right now. Went camping a few weeks ago and got burned on the canoe and then before it was healed up, Thursday I went to an all day concert...I will never learn. Any relief would be great! TIA
  7. looks good and love that you took the pic in the mirror so you can get a better view of more of the candle
  8. I have done this with leaves, cinnamon sticks, potpourri and other stuff and I have never had it catch on fire. I also never gave any of those away.
  9. when you say swirled paint that could be like a tie-die candle
  10. I think this should work as a link http://www.candletech.com/recipes/scents/
  11. I would go to the old board archives and look under where it says scent mixing or blending ideas (or something like that) I would take some of the things that people mixed and do them in layers and then rename or call it what they called the mix!
  12. also make sure you test..especially if your intent is to sell! You don't want a lawsuit becuase a leafy candle caught fire and burned down someone's home
  13. The scent finder is awesome. As far as putting leaves in a candle..sure it can be done. If i were going to do that I would make a core candle (a smaller candle wicked for the size of the smaller candle) and the use the leaves on the out shell of the candle. That way you would run less risk of the leaves catching fire because the flame should only be big/hot enough to melt the wax of the core candle. You would also have a shell left with the leaves in it. You would then stick a tea lite in it and still have a beautiful leafy candle. Hope that helps! ok I am not sure that I really typed this out correctly..let me add I would use maybe a 2 inch diameter candle for the core candle leaving the wick a bit longer so that it could be place in a larger mold maybe a 4 inch diameter and I would put the leaves on the outer part of the larger mold does that make sense?
  14. I do mostly pillars. I did get some Joy wax and have tried it in a container. I like it I guess, but I have never worked with other container waxes, so I can't really compare it. The one thing that I don't like about it: it stinks!!!! It smells like...like...umm I am not sure what it smells like, but it is bad!! If I use a FO that is not super strong you can smell the wax over the FO
  15. how about some ginger passion mixed with any number of things previously listed. hillbilly home brew might be fun
  16. I would go with the ever popular sage green
  17. I think he is cute. I like the petals. I am wierd about color. I like cool tones with cool tones and warm tones with warm tones. To me his bow looks gold (could be my monitor) which to me is a warm tone. I think it might flow more nicely with yellow or gold toned petals or a pink bow with the pink petals. I would also give him little bit smaller bow.
  18. oooooh I like the renaming "White River" hmmm ...white with blue marbling
  19. so you just stuff it through the end with out the flat bottom until it meets up ..or do you thread it through from the bottom like sewing and then cut it off?... so simply this seems and how difficult I will make it!!!
