  1. How pretty! theses colors remind me of a tkb set I got sometime ago. You may have just inspired me to use them!! mind if I borrow your name for the soap? lol
  2. Your soaps are great! I wish I had read this thread a few hours ago about the gel!! I just put my first batch in my mold from Kristy, just a few hours ago. I am pretty sure it never got to gel. So I will have to wait a few days?I was thinking maybe putting it in the fridge or freezer a few minutes before trying to unmold? I was wondering if the silicone is heat resistant.... BarbaraAL do you put it in the oven? how do you force gel? I put mine in a carboard box and wrapped a towel around it but it still didn't get warm enough. I would post pics but my camera cord is playing hide-n-seek and I am losing the game.
  3. I like the idea you are going for. Where are you going to put your contact info and the size of the candle? does that stuff go on your warning label?
  4. where in Ohio is Columbus Foods? I only see an IL addy. If they are in Ohio, I am driving!! OIls By Nature is Ohio but currently closed from the ice storm. http://www.oilsbynature.com/ I can't help with anything in the south
  5. I keep a few. I never thought of it until this post. 8 to be exact year round. One is b&b only and another is new and not doing well.
  6. very pretty!!! *soap porn approval*
  7. I would try poly 80. 20 is used for lighter oils and 80 for heavier oils. so if 20 isn't doing the trick I would try 80. are you mixing the poly and fo and then adding to liquid soap? need a bit more info....it could be the order you are doing things. it could be the base, it could be the fo, could be a combo of a few things. Also are you heating the base to help with mixing of all your addatives? Start by warming your base a few seconds at a time in the microwave 10-20 seconds at a time. what all are you adding? are you adding anything with water in it?
  8. yep you can leave lye all mixed up for a very long time. some soapers even mix it the day before on purpose so that it is room temp for soaping.
  9. how are you cutting now? If you are fighting with a miter box and a knife, trying to get up over your soap so you can cut straight down and still struggling to get a straight bar....then you will notice a WORLD of difference and a specialty charge will be worth it. All you have to do it touch your strings, give a tighten (if needed) place log and pull down, and you are done! with the entire log in one motion! bevel or leave ends (very nice clean lines) how much is the specialty cost? keep in mind all the work that goes into changing the cutter that much and figure if you were the maker would you consider that fair to re-do all that work for one product. (that is how I would justify it)
  10. I was just on etsy convoing about a pair of custom earrings and I saw a pic of a soap with the stamp. I should have known! Her stuff is great. I have a soap mold and knife, just haven't tried any stamps yet.
  11. I have this one http://www.forcraftssake.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_9&products_id=24 and I like that it cuts quickly, unform, and easily but, my favorite mold is too long and I have smashed a log or two by forgetting. Dealing with the length of that mold makes it take too long. I want The Tank!
  12. beautiful!! if I can ask where you got the stamp? I love that is a nice deep stamp without the square mark like mine leaves.
  13. Cute! I would want soap in there to go with the washcloths. You could do bars of soapies too.
  14. I third or fourth (or whatever number it is) Southern Garden Scent's Dragon's Blood. Just got a pound not too long ago, goood-ah stuff-ah!!
  15. I have a gallon of the enji base. I used it unscented on my pup. I am too afraid of using any fo in a pet shampoo. My boy has very bad allergies, they affect his eyes, ears, and skin. He gets very dry itchy skin. He is on a special diet. The enji base was ok. It was a nice shampoo but I have to stick to the oatmeal shampoos to give his dry flaky skin any kind of relief. I thought of adding some stuff to make it better for him but haven't gotten around to trying it.
  16. I put my hair product research on the back burner a long time ago but, to get you started try here http://www.ingredientstodiefor.com/category.php?category_id=85 this looks like a good recipe to try or start with http://www.ingredientstodiefor.com/item.php?item_id=216&category_id=85
  17. Eco- I was actually going to ask if you wanted to meet me there or someplace in the middle back when you were selling a bunch of molds in the classies, but I decided I needed other supplies more.:lipsrseal
  18. have you guys not really looked at the site lately? they used to have oils, wax, a few embed mold, incense stuff and a few other things. you guys know I pick up and lately I have been there every single week. They have a ton of new containers, bottles, little pots, some cute pots that I want but don't know what to put in them. The new place is huge but the warehouse must be full or they have new stuff in wait for testing or something because there are tons of boxes lining the lunch room. Debbie is out doing herself.... I can't wait for the showroom to be set up, but anything I want to see, they pull for me. Good stuff going on there. Thats all. No insider scoop.
  19. look for lots of good/new/more things from NG. They are expanding in a major way.
  20. the lye concentration looks weak to me. You shouldn't have lye heavy soap unless you made a mistake with oils but, with that low lye concetration I take that to mean that you used a lot of water or the full amount of water +. (I use anywhere from 33% to 38% lye concentration) I have noticed that when I use full water my soap is much softer, much longer. I take a big water discount and can cut my soap in as little as 12 hours sometimes because it is that hard already. It also looks like it was a fairly small batch and didn't gel so it may take longer for the zap to go away because it didn't get hot enough to finish soapanification quickly. Before using less water I had batches that would have to sit for 3 days or more before the 'cream cheese' stage passed and it was hard enough to cut. Let it sit until it is hard enough to cut and leave it smooth sided, after that try the zap test I would try the recipe again using an ounce less water maybe even less.
  21. Why don't you make your top layer a very light pink so as the red flower melts down it just darkens the pink? I think that would get rid of most of your problems. Oh and unless you have 2 fo that go well together why don't you just do one scent throughout? You can make different colors with the same scent, there is no rule against that oh and retail value should generally be about 3x your cost, some say more
  22. never smelled philosophy's but bcn has toasted marshmallow http://cart.candlesupply.com/product.php?productid=18971&cat=0&page=1
