  1. Scented - youtube it.. just make sure you skip all the videos that just tell you to grate a bar of soap and add water. luminousboutique even has a video on there. I have been youtubing it for a while now. I found a few recipes to start with and I will let you know how it goes. I know I will not be willing to do a demo on it by gathering time but if I like it, maybe next year.
  2. Scented- I've only got one can of the stuff that is 2 years old so I am going to try to make my first batch of liquid soap this weekend. I will let you know how it goes and if I really am after more. I have to grab up a stock pot for it though I don't wanna use the ones I have they are for food. are the bowls being made with palm? nice! bet they are gorgeous! I may need to take some time off work and come make 'em with you
  3. I'm down for a pound each milk powder. SYR can you get more KAOH? or do I need to chase after my lye guy? Abbie- is OBN going? Will they be bringing orders again or will I be offering to pick up at OBN too? edited to say I just read about OBN and that is unknown at this time....
  4. the cases were a dollar store (something similar) find
  5. Peaks for me too. I soap it but I do use td, never tried without the td. But it soaps like a dream and smells wonderful. Good throw in candles too.
  6. ok so I am reading through this thread on the other board and I wanna look at posts by a member but you can't and you can't search anyone know how to do that? says I need to register but then says it is closed. I was a member of that board can't I still look?
  7. I went to a yankee outlet store at an outlet mall Geneva NY on Seneca lake and was horrified at the garbage in that store. I realise that an outlet store may have lots of rejects that didn't make the cut but I couldn't believe the sales lady telling everyone to smell the cap because all the scent was in the lid...wth???? Ugly tops, air pockets, poor cold throw, all the bad things we fight to fix and every candle I picked up I wouldn't put my company name on. edited to say - if you are after a good country cothesline, BCS country clothesline!!!! ahhhhhh! so good! a best seller
  8. earn extra money! ha ha! right away??!?!?! no way. I have been doing this many years now. Let me just tell you it was a few years before I started selling and one of those years alone I spent over $4,ooo on supplies for testing I don't mean to be negative in anyway. You certainly can do anything you put your mind to, but, this is not easy by any means. It will take lots of supplies, attempts and failures, money, time, patience, research, and some talent too. It takes passion to make candles and b&b. I am with the others, get a kit. Try it. If you become so obsessed with it you can think of nothing else, then consider crafting and perfecting before making money.
  9. silicone molds with wick pins, costly but worth it! http://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/ProductDetail.aspx?CategoryID=1817&ProductID=7445
  10. what lovely soapies in the soap porn! love it!
  11. yay mindy!!! you will love it! I am certain! The night before is sooo much fun you should consider it..... Abbie is someone taking over doing the yankee swap this year?
  12. I am seriously considering. I promise. For anyone that may be on the fence, I have been to this conference 2 years in a row. It is one of the, if not the best I've ever been to and I have been to quite a few in my day in several different states. Great goodies bags, wonderful door prizes, good supplier representation, great hosts, a wonderful group of participants, great presentations (informative, knowledgable speakers) great location near a casino and the outlet malls,
  13. wow!!! GRRREAT first soapies! they look like you are an old-pro! great layer adhesion, holy moly you swirled mp (not easy), good color! all around really nice work and pretty soapies!
  14. I bought something similar to this and made a tiny candle with left over over-pour wax. http://www.fillmorecontainer.com/Jars/15-oz-Round-Sample-Jar-CT.htm I got mine a long long time ago I think from WSP Found some hard plastic cases that they fit in perfectly and set them up in categories of my line. Spring, Summer, Fall, Holiday, Year Round Favs. They get heavy though if you have a lot of scents. or this libby glass http://www.lonestarcandlesupply.com/products/CandleContainers_Libbey-Sampler-1oz.html
  15. Full time job, part time student and part to full time with the biz depending on the season .... Though there was a time that I did not work and depended only on candles but it wasn't enough to really make all the bills but I could still eat.
  16. I just finished side by side comparisons of emerald and bartlett from Peak. I wanted emerald, he wanted bartlett. so we tested both. emerald pear has an almost fizzy note to it almost like pear champagne or a hard pear cider (Scented really liked the pear cider from Melt!) still a very good strong pear scent just with that added almost uplifting, bubbly, tangy note to it. Very good hot and cold through, tested in parafin. bartlett pear very sweet succulent pear. It made me think of those darker green skinned pears that are sooo juicy. Good cold and hot throw, tested in parafin. (maybe they are called bartlett pears..I wouldn't know) So they both got good reviews and now I can't decide which to add but may add both and see how they do. I almost think that emerald may do better in b&b and the bartlett better for candles. As far as sales go that is just a hypothesis.
  17. maybe adding some chemical....drying it longer? I dunno...something is different.
  18. best of luck to all that have been hacked. I have not ordered from fillmore or cs. NOT been hacked either. HTH
  19. I blend liquid dyes. come up with a drop system per pound and write it down! same color everytime. Oh and don't forget to shake them if they have been sitting a while especially with purple, brown and dark colors. Judy -- yep. The colors in the pic a slightly muted they are even better in person.
  20. I was a pourin let me see if I can recall the scents the greens I don't recall one but the other is cool citrus basil lilac country home fruit slices creme brulee there is carbernet on the other end of the table more creme brulee wvs
  21. So did they ever get it right? Did you get your oil? Satisfy your customer? I am really needed to order from them and don't want to deal with a bunch of drama.........
  22. That is really pretty! I hope you enjoy it for a long long time!
  23. I would skip the double boiler maker thingy and go to walmart, spend $20 on a Presto Kitchen Kettle (deep dryer) for melting wax. Fast, easy and you can do more than in your pour pot. Totally worth the investment!!
