  1. Thanks for the kind words about the site, Island Girl. Geoffrey's Cat, named after the 19th century naturalist, Geoffrey St Hilaire, is found throughout southern South America, east of the Andes. They really are beautiful...the markings are like a cross between a leopard and a domestic tiger cat. They are hunted for their fur and the species is threatened.
  2. I know the wrong wick and too much FO will cause mushrooming. My question is...in your testing, have you found the certain waxes are more prone to creating a wick mushroom? I am testing multiple waxes...and tweaking with BS and PM...to get the perfect melt pool, and no soot. Differing FO loads...never over 8%...and in some I can't stop the mushrooming! Millenium blend is one. I've tried HTP's, CD's, and LX's. I still have some hemp to test, and I might have an RRD or two somewhere. I have some zinc and low smoke zinc...but I'm trying to stay away from zinc cored. Is this wax just prone to mushrooming the wick?
  3. I don't dye my soy containers. That was just my personal preference on how I wanted the candles to look when I started. (more natural) Later I found out about frosting issues with dye and was very glad. I will dye them if a customer makes a special request, though.
  4. Willow, I made these handy dandy "cooling cuffs" with fluted corrugated cardboard and lined the inside of the cuffs with strips of old towels. I get the cardboard in rolls. Then I wrap the candle and close it with a clothespin, put an upside down box on top of it to keep the cooling temp stable and let it sit for at least 24 hrs. Very high-tech! LOL
  5. I wanna grow up and be just like Donita!!!!
  6. Ok...I was wrong about the EL Millenium blend...it's throwing like a champ now...in fact, I need to wick down on the next test, as the melt is too deep. But burning clean and throwing...so at least I know it hot throws withing 48 hours. I only got 1 lb to test...(freebie) 1 lb is definitely not enough for testing! LOL I got 10 lbs coming of the EcoSoya. *whew* (not a freebie tho...darn it)
  7. Oops...guess I should add the FO in the above test is Passionate Kisses at 1 oz PP from NG.
  8. I'm interested in this as well. I just tested some EL Millenium blend and the cold throw was strong as soon as it set up. I had to add 4% BW to get the tops smooth, and play around with wicks to get the best melt pool...and then "tempa-cured" them for 24 hours to eliminate wet spots. At 28 hours (3.5 hr burn) the hot throw is not as strong as I would like. I just ordered some EcoSoya CB 135 to test. Anyone know the recommended cure time for hot throw either of these waxes? What are the soy or soy blends in your expereince that hot throw in the shortest cure time?
  9. Well I have ordered both, so we'll see!
  10. To get something that smells like... Spices: Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Ginger, Vanilla, Food: Orange, Banana, Coconut, Lime, Mango, Pineapple, Coffee, Brazil Nut, Woods: Balsa Wood, Teak, Mahogany, Sandalwood, Flowers: Ylang-ylang, Orchid, Hibiscus... All in one fragrance?
  11. If I mix Maduro and Indonesian Teak...will it smell like a Rainforest? I need a Rainforest Fragrance that throws in C3!!! Desperately!!! (and I don't like musk) (I'm not picky or anything...LOL)
  12. There doesn't seem to be a description of it on the Candlemaker's Store site. What does it smell like? TIA.
  13. You would think with the name of my candles, I would know a good rainforest scent... but I don't! LOL I got a sample from Candles and Supplies and hated it.
  14. Thanks everyone! Yes...I was thinking an earth scent or rainforest scent. Know of any good ones that throw in C3?
  15. I am working on a fundraiser for Big Cat Rescue and need to find the perfect FO! Big Cat Rescue, a non profit educational sanctuary, is devoted to rescuing and providing a permanent home for exotic (i.e. wild, not domestic) cats who have been abused, abandoned, bred to be pets, retired from performing acts, or saved from being slaughtered for fur coats, and to educating the public about these animals and the issues facing them in captivity and in the wild. The sanctuary houses the most diverse population of exotic cats in the world, with 16 of the 35 species of wild cat represented among the approximately 150 residents. These include tigers, lions, leopards, cougars, bobcats, lynx, ocelots, servals, caracals and others, many of whom are threatened, endangered, or now extinct in the wild. Fundraiser - "Light a Candle for a Cat." The cost of the candle includes an adoption kit. They can "adopt" any of the 16 species of the cats at the rescue and help save these beautiful creatures. Along with the candle they receive a Certificate of Adoption with the name and a frameable 8x10 photo of the animal they choose, the personal biography of their adopted one and a color newsletter about their chosen species. What FO do you think would be perfect for these candles? Needs to throw in C3!!! Any ideas are greatly appreciated! For the cats!
  16. If a Tahitian waves the Tiare flower behind his head, it means "Follow me." How about "Follow Me to Paradise?"
  17. Thanks! I like Sultry Summer Evening a lot too! Thanks for the compliment on the site. Yes...I did it myself in Frontpage. I bought a software CD with 10,000 photo graphics at CompUSA for most of the images.
  18. Here's something about heliotrope fragrance. Like many traditional cottage-garden flowers, heliotrope was prized by our grandmothers. For more than a few years it was hard to find in the marketplace but now it’s available just about everywhere. There are named varieties galore, with flowers in white and pale lavender. But I prefer the species, the old-fashioned kind with dark green, crinkled leaves and deep purple flowers. It’s most dependable, both in ease of care and reliable fragrance. Reminiscent of vanilla, the heliotrope’s scent gave rise to its common name used years ago: the cherry-pie plant. You've probably noticed heliotrope's perfume through a dark hot summer evening, just a musky sweetness on the still humid air. A scent to remind you of Grandma's garden or maybe the tropics.
  19. Summer Cottage Garden or Cottage Garden?
  20. Thanks Henry. I tried blending with palm too, but 100% beeswax does make a beautiful candle. Do you know if it's possible to color a beeswax candle to "white white?" Even the white pastillies come out an ivory white.
  21. Anyone ever made a nice beeswax and veggie wax blend pillar? I'd love to dabble more in beeswax, but it's so expensive. (Columbus Foods seems to have the best price.$3.59 per pound for white pastillies) I like to make a blend for a nice hard pillar.
  22. The man in Brown just delivered my Passionate Kisses, Lick Me All Over and Strawberries and Sparkling Wine from NG! Passionate Kisses and Lick me All Over OOB kick butt! Mmm mmm mmm. The nose jury is still out on the Strawberries and Sparkling Wine...Can't wait until tonite to pour em!
