  1. The melt pool is the key to hot throw, IMO. (Assuming the FO's being used are known to be good throwers in soy and the % is right. Too much and it affects hot throw.) The more full the melt pool, the more scent can be released into the air. If the melt pool is to small...the hot throw is minimized. If the melt pool is too big or deep...the hot throw is also minimized, plus you get sooting and mushrooms and a fast burning candle. Different FO's will react positively or negatively in achieving a melt pool, which is why wicking is so tricky. But achieving that perfect melt pool by testing, testing and more testing is what's so addictve about candlemaking!
  2. I guess the only other question I would have is, after all your testing, were you able to get a full melt pool?
  3. Hmmmm...that's wierd. I love Joywax. I've tested others and always come back to Joy. I know it used to be posted as 95% soy and 5% food-grade parrafin and other botanicals. As with most soy waxes, there will be differences in batches, so maybe they figured it's safer not to give a definitve % to get the blend each time. It sounds like you've tested all the right stuff...could it be the FO's themselves?
  4. Here is a good site with "How-to's" in Frontpage. http://frontpagehowto.com/
  5. I got my template from http://www.myartsdesire.com/default.asp She does really nice work (IMO) and the template was very user freindly. I was able to customize a LOT...and still do! (after 2 years it's still a work in progress! LOL) www.moonshadowsandrainforests.com
  6. You can trust what you read on http://searchenginewatch.com/ It will tell you everything you want to know, how to submit your site, and more importantly, how to do it effectively and for free (at least what the other company was offering) including getting reports.
  7. The template should say what version of Frontpage you'd need. It might make a big difference.
  8. I guess it kinda depends on how complex you want the site to be. You don't really need to know how to write HTML, but it helps to know how the code and the web page components work. There are a lot of nice Frontpage templates out there that can be tweaked and customized. And there are a lot of free tutorials.
  9. Does your web host support Frontpage Extensions? I did mine in Frontpage.
  10. That's what this guy wants...a candle that smells like Yankee Stadium! I mentioned beer and popcorn too, but he said there had to be some hot dog in it! :undecided
  11. This site has a LOT of info about SEO. ( Search Engine Optimization ) http://searchenginewatch.com/ I highly recommend it. I looked at the website for Internet Corporation Listing Service http://icls.net/ Looks like a huge rip-off to me. I dunno if anything they are doing is illegal, but it's definitely not worth paying for! :undecided
  12. LOL, Stella. I am gonna play tomorrow. If it turns out looking like your partner's first hand-dipped taper, maybe I can get a wholesale gig at a "novelty" store!
  13. Hmmmm...so can I blend a container soyblend with Palm 3 and make hand-dipped tapers?
  14. Anyone know if there is such a thing as "hot dog" FO? :embarasse I've searched but can't find one.
  15. Ok...strange question...but...has anyone ever tried candle gloss on a palm pillar? :embarasse (For a Unity Candle)
  16. Thanks Steph! I'm in Florida...way far away from Ill. :undecided But that's a GREAT idea about the local colleges! Thanks!
  17. I have a digital camera, but the pics I take look crappy (to me, at least) compared to the rest of the site. All the pics on my site came from a CD of images I bought...for the fragrances, etc...so I have no real pics of my candles on the site...just generic candle pics. I think it has more to do with lighting than anything.
  18. Has anyone had their products professionally photographed for their website? I am considering doing this, but would like some insight or hear about experiences from others who have done it, and maybe a ballpark $$ amount I could expect to pay. Thanks!
  19. I have mine catagorized on the homepage menu this way: FRESH AND FRUITY, Berries, citrus and tropical scents. RAINFORESTS AND GARDENS, Flowers, woodsy and herbal. GOURMET SCENTS, Bakery and beverage scents of a cozy kitchen. SCENTS FOR SOULS, Luxury spa scents to restore balance. SIMPLE PLEASURES, Other unique scents I always highlight seasonal scents on the homepage, which are cross-referenced from the other pages. Works pretty well for me and people tell me the site is easy to navigate and find what they want.
  20. Thanks Todd...I have been eyeing that one. I have a few Sweetcakes oils and I love them, but they are a bit pricey...I guess I could adjust my candle costs to reflect the FO costs...but I'm just so lazy, LOL!
