  1. After a few years of wanting to make CP and months of research, I finally made my first batch of CP!! Yes it is boring (no color no scent), yes it is ugly, yes I suck at cutting...( I really wasn't trying to make them even...too lazy at the time, the bars a small rectangles not the size I will end up doing later)...but I still did it. And I do have questions now. I am assuming that the whiteish "crust" on top is ash...when and how do I go about getting rid of it. I made it Sunday and cut it Monday...is it too late? Can I use a metal cheese cutter to get it off? These are going out to friends to test out...I want to do a batch that is scented OMH for C-mas gifts, but don't want them to be crappy...KWIM? So I am planning on doing a second batch with a few different oils that this one and see what they like better. I need to know what the numbers in soap calc REALLY mean... I know what the recommended numbers are...I just want to know why and what the difference is for them. What kinds of things should I be asking my "testers" regarding the soap?? I searched and couldn't find what I was looking for...it was probably under my nose and I missed it... so I am sorry if I am asking a silly question. Thank you in advance for any advice you wonderful people have for me. Now the pics... warning...ugly soap ahead.
  2. WSP has an AWESOME Choc. Devil's Food Cake. Everytime I open the bottle, I want to drink it!! Not sure if this is the type of Choc. you are looking for, but thought I'd give a suggestion.
  3. Thanks gals! I went ahead and put some in a small batch I made last night. I will have some more friends test it out and let me know their feelings too. So far I used it al day today and I don't feel super dry...but it did take a week or so for the other lip blam to dry them out, so only time will tell. Thanks again.
  4. I know that there is probably a post out there somewhere that may contain the answer...but I can not find it:angry2: . I really like the way the BCN lip balm base feels, but it dries my lips out, not bad, even my friend mentioned this too. I would like to add something to it so that I can use it all the time and LOVE it. I was thinking something like lanolin oil...I love lanolin, I like to use my left over Lansinoh (yes the stuff for breastfeeding moms) on my lips and they stay nice and soft. My questions are... can I do this without having to add anything else to the base?? Is this a good additive for my needs?? If not what do you guys and gals suggest?? Thanks in advance for any info you can give me, I really appreciate it.
  5. Beautiful as always!! I will let you know when i do my first batch and you can send the sweet fairy my way! I am still working up the nerve to do it. My Chemistry class is kicking my a$$... (wow that rhymed) and haven't had a chance to even think about soaping. I better hurry I wat to do C-mas gifts and the calendar is going to stop for me...LOL The sops are beautiful and I am sure that they "stink good"!!
  6. That is a GREAT idea!! I was wondering what I was going to do with my wire cubes that just didn't work out for the kids toys like I had hoped!! Yeah I love recycling my "junk". We have those wire shelves that they out in newer homes (house came with them) in our pantry and when DH gets around to making wood shelves instead I will use those too!! Great suggestion, thank you, thank you, thank you!!
  7. Very nice. I love the pic of the 1st cut one!! I love swirls. I have not even mad a batch of soap yet...and I can't wiat to do the swirls. I am sure that I will suck at first, but I don't care I am going to do it...someday!! Keep up the great work.

  9. Thanks for the info gals...I really appreciate it. I go to Brambleberry al the time...how did I miss these little guys...maybe one of lifes great mysteries:D . Thanks again!
  10. WYJen and Lisasoaps where do you get your shrink warps that cover the eintire tube and just tear off the top?? I haven't found them...I only find the ones that tear away completely?? Do tell please:D
  11. They looked good...sorry they went flat. I haven't attempted doing anything other than the tablets... you know the ones with the homemade bomb maker (thanks to DH). I usually make them .75 oz ... so I guess in the swap I will need to make 6 for each person... I better get crackin' . Since I am talking about the swap... Do we have to package as if we were selling or are we going generic so we can save some $ until we get it right?? I have NO idea how I am going to package them yet... let alone what happens if I make some balls and they ACTUALLY work...LOL!!
  12. They look great!! I love the lables too!
  13. Thanks gals for checking it out. If you gals want to buy just the tubing let me know...it is 1 1/4" inside diameter and you can get a dowel at Lowes or Home Depot wth an outsids diameter of 1 1/4". Just PM and I will ask DH what the plastic costs and let you know. I don't think it was that much somewhere around $10 for the whole 6' plastic tube. I don't know what to do with the rest of it anyway...I may keep a back up set incase DH wants to make bombs with me...and he acually might want to. I have to say he rocks!! He is even going to help me keep up with my orders this semester while I am taking Chem 121. I guess he's a keeper.
  14. I have one called DJ doodlers...but mine was not free either. I ordered it on a font disc http://djinkers.com/product.php?productid=110&cat=0&page=1 The fontis abut 1/2 wa down the page and says "Live a Little". I have been very happy with all the fons I have from them...very creative. HTH

The Shippng is included and there is a $4.95 Handling charge no matter how big the order is... obviously beeter when you order lots of stuff. HTH and again, I am sorry to hear about those price. http://www.bulkfoods.com/search_results.asp?txtsearchParamCat=32&txtsearchParamType=ALL&txtsearchParamMan=ALL&txtsearchParamVen=ALL&txtFromSearch=fromSearch&txtsearchParamTxt=4272
  20. Thanks for checking out my table maker...I was eyebaling them online, but hubby said he could do one. We made one with a plunger (just the plunger part didn't buy the tube at that time) that was 2". Then I changed my mind while looking for "salt tubes" to pack them in and couldn't find 2" ones. But found lots of 1 3/8 and 1 1/2 so I figured that the bomb with foil wrappers would fit nicely into those sizes with just a little wiggle room. DH is a task oriented hyperactive person and LOVES to do things like this. He is going to make me a soap mold once I get the nerve up to make my first batch. I KNOW that I will become an addict so he will have to make TONS of sizes:D . jwahlton-what size were you guys trying to make?? pm me if 1 1/4 would work for you. Thanks again.
  21. My very own clear bath bomb maker!! We have a few plastic companies in Reno and we got the biggest dowl (it is 1.25") at Home Dump (oops I mean Depot) and bought the same size inside diameter tube...which is 6 feet long!! Cut both and ta-da! He cut the length of the tube 6" to have room to grip it and the dowel is 8". I will ask DH what he wants to do with the left over tube. I will let you guys and gals know. I used Rita's Rockhard recipe and they are pretty stiff as of 12 hours after. I used .75 oz of mixture. I didn't know where to start so that's where I went. They are 1.25" diameter (of course) and about 5/8th inch tall. I think I will wrap them in 4x4 foil. i am not much into coloring things...but may have to if people want them colored. Sorry that the pics aren't all that great.:undecided Thanks for looking. Now I just need to order the salt tubes to put the bombs in.
  22. Thanks RobinInOR and xava!! I really appreciate the info. I did tons of searches and those were listed somewhere in threads as light so I will strike the Avocado from my memory as a "light" oil. I love this place and all the helpful people here. Thanks for letting me hang out with you and learn from you!!
  23. Okay guys and gals...I am going to ask a question that you may find lame...but I have searched and can't find anything else. What are "light oils". In all sorts of recipes I see "light oil of your choice" and have seen the following ones listed...is there a place here (or elsewhere on the web) with all of them listed, if not what makes an oil a "light oil"?? Is there any on the following list that are not!!?? Sweet Almond Oil Rice Bran Oil Apricot Kernal Oil Avocado Oil Camelina Oil Macademia Nut Oil Soy Oil Frac. Coconut Oil Grapeseed Oil TIA.
  24. I am glad to have been some help to you wonderful people here!! I am here every freakin' day and it is about time that I contribute something useful:D . You guys and gals rock so hard it isn't even funny. I am glad that now I can be a "giver" too!! LOL!!
