  1. Superfat and lye discount are basically the same thing. If you superfat at 5% or discount your lye 5% you are leaving 5% of your oil unsaponified for conditioning. Just a difference in how you enter them in soapcalc. HTH
  2. You've got shea butter in there which is lovely for conditioning. Might want to watch out for canola that high and a 7% superfat. It goes rancid fairly fast and you might get DOS
  3. Thank you both for the celestial suggestions. Might have to place an order. Oceangazer, what kits did you pick? Ooppss Jaq, didn't mean to hijack your post! Sorry:(
  4. Chuck, I'm getting ready to order from Celestial. Which ones do you like and are they non-bleeding for layers and swirls? TIA
  5. I mean for Darwin's. I've only superfatted at 5% and sub light olive oil for grapeseed since I never order grapeseed due to the short shelf life.
  6. I've been making Darwin's wonderful recipe doing CP instead of HP and subbing light olive oil for the grapeseed. My question is, has anyone ever played with the superfat amount? I've been using 5% as her recipe called for...just wondering if anyone superfats higher and what your results have been? Just an aside...A few days ago, just for kicks, I tried eliminating the PKO and using 50% coconut instead but superfatted at 10%. It's too fresh to tell if the superfat is high enough for that much coconut oil, but we shall see. It sure bubbles like crazy.
  7. Oh, that would be wonderful!!!
  8. Just a note on the TKB POPS. They were discontinued last year because they cannot source them anymore. The Conservatorie "magics" are pretty close though except the oranges.
  9. thesage.com has them. Haven't checked recent prices though. I used them a few years ago and put gold fish and toys in them. They held up to pouring temps well.
  10. Try the tropical body butter from aquatech-skincare.com. It's packed full of natural butters and oils and is great for winter skin. Pricey, but worth it. You might also just order some pure unrefined shea butter.
  11. So what is the wick of choice for this wax?
  12. CS discontinued all their palm waxes several months back, maybe last year. Doubt you could pick up the discussions since the last 3 years are missing in search. There is a company in Missouri that carries it...DP Morris I think. They distribute IGI waxes. By CS, I mean Candle Science - looks like you were asking for C&S so I don't think we're talking about the same company.
  13. They have all kinds of glass jars for food, straight sided with threads...like olive jars, salsa jars...their website doesn't have much listed of any type of container they carry. They haven't seemed to have moved into this century yet. I've dealt with their reps who are very helpful and, as said, will send free samples.
  14. I know the US Container site is awful, but they have all kinds of jars like the ones you are looking for. Just give them a call. They are local and you can pick up.
  15. There is a company called US Container and they have a location here in Phoenix. I got some jelly jars there a few years back for 25 cents each. Their website is awful but you can call them, let them know what you are looking for and they will send you samples. I don't know if they let you come in to look. Just google US Container.
  16. Ravens, how is the jar adhesion when you make a container with it? Also, do you know if it's paraffin or a parasoy blend?
  17. I've always wondered about that wax. It says you can use it for containers, tarts and votives. How is this so - a container wax that makes tarts that will pop out of clamshells and free standing votives? Do you have to use additives to change it from container to tart/votive wax?
  18. Hey Candybee, do you mind telling me what wicks you like with the glass glow? I'm tearing my hair out...the CD's and CSN's are torches. Tried eco's and same thing.
  19. Same here. The CD's just dance too much and I get a nice steady flame with zincs so I tolerate the shrooms. If it's wicked right, they're not too bad anyway, although some FO's shroom more than others.
  20. Now that we're back up (yay), anyone poured this?
  21. Wondering if anyone uses Lonestars Sweet Orange and Chili Pepper? I am placing a small order with them and thought I might sample it. Does it compare to Millcreeks? I don't want to place an order with Millcreek for just one bottle so hoping to find a SOCP that is a good and strong. Thanks. If you have any others from Lonestar you can recommend that would be great too!
  22. Hey Robert, this thread is pretty old so you might not get a response. Peaks carries them too under misc. supplies.
  23. Kind of a long story Steve, but here goes. Last January you and I and a couple other members were chatting about the confusion with the Clarus waxes...don't know if you remember and I can't find the thread in search since the board crashed. I had just gotten a sample of the 3033 parasoy/coconut oil blend and was going to test and report back. Ended up taking a long break from candle making. About a month ago I finally pulled out the 3033 and poured it up and wowsa, what a pretty wax and absolutely no, and I mean NO wet spots. I even set the jars directly in front of my air conditioning vents for weeks and still none. I was also getting a perfect pool (diameter and depth) in my 3" tumbler which is the bain of my existence. I had really liked the throw from the 3020, but dang the jars looked like the surface of the moon...adhesion was terrible. I was still testing for hot throw and only tested zincs with one fragrance so can't report much about the throw. The FO was either a dud in the wax, or the wax doesn't throw ha! Anyway liked it sooooo much that I called Brad at Clarus to order some more and he told me that they had sold it all off...apparently because the CO lowered the melt point to the mid to low 120's (he wasn't specific) that it wasn't doing too well in the heat of the warehouse. He said they had no plans to make more. They had originally manufactured it for a client who ended up not taking it. Bummed I chatted a bit with him about it. He told me they had started with the 3020 wax and added from 5 to 10% coconut oil. Once again not specific on the percentages and didn't tell me if they added anything else to the blend. So I though, what the heck, I have coconut oil and 3020...let's play. I tried 8 and 10% and got a blend that looked and burned just like the 3033...super creamy, perfect burn and no wetspots. I even put one in the fridge and nada. So that is the saga. I haven't played with it in a couple of weeks since I am testing 6006 and glass glow palm and want to try those without having to blend.
