  1. As I start my business, I adoped this mindset from the beginning. My product is of higher value than that of a mass-produced product. Thus - I will charge as much if not more. It's my hands making my product. It's my mind that is making formulations. It's my spirit that drives my business. My hands, my mind, and my spirit are completely worth the $12 I charge for an 8oz candle. I set out to be higher end. I'm a higher end customer myself and wanted to make something that would attract me (if that makes sense...). Jen
  2. As one who waited 5 months for an order from SNC, finally filed a BBB complaint, and finally received a refund from Angie (who yes - is a very nice lady)... My only advice is... Knowing what you know (experienced) and what you've heard - don't complain when Angie hits her next cycle of not sending out orders, not communicating, etc (because it is quite cyclical) and you're stuck in the same boat I (and many others) was. Jen
  3. Oh good golly...I have a candle fo shelf, a B&B fo shelf, an eo shelf, and a couple of totes full of fos that I don't want anymore. I'd have to be in that 250 range. And I don't sell (well ok - I did just have my first candle order). Yet. Jen
  4. You can make anything into a "butter" by adding Vegethix to the oil. Say avocado butter - it's really avocado oil and Vegethix (Herbarie). Jen
  5. It's so interesting how everyone can have such different experiences! I add fo around 185, stir, and pour immediately after. My fo%s is why I started this post originally. I thought I was doing 6% but I'm going a bit higher than that . I use top notch fos from Scent Works, Daystar, Just Scent, Snowtop, Peaks, etc. Jen
  6. Grumpygirl - with 4627 you should be getting an awesome throw with just about anything! Try some zincs - that's the only wick I can get to work for me in the 4627 - everything else smoked horribly. I tried cds, ecos, htps, etc. I did just get a lx sample pack in and will try those too... Jen
  7. Indiana Candle Supply. I like SW too. Jen
  8. lol..I like that - The Mad Scenter! I always measure my fo by weight (I use a scale - a very accurate scale at that). I know better - that's why I'm just confuzzled over why I thought this was the way to do it - probably because I kept getting such good results. You know...this probably explains why I had a little seeping when I tested JS 123 (slapping forehead). My sil loves my candles and put together my first ever order for me (over $200) so I weighed the wax for labeling purposes and that's when I discovered my snafu. I know I've got an awesome product. I've spent gazillions of dollars and hours on testing, research, testing, research, etc, etc, etc in this past year and I missed probably the most basic of basics - weigh EVERYTHING! Jen
  9. BCN - their shipping is the cheapest for me and excellent customer service. Jen
  10. Thanks! Here's why... And I know so so much better.... But I've been doing this almost a year now... And have awesome smelling candles.... But I always assumed (and I know this is sooo wrong) that for an 8oz jj I would fill my pyrex to just under 8oz and would measure out .5oz fo (.75oz if I knew I needed more for a better throw) - so 1oz ppw - and go on my merry way. Fills up the jj to just where I want it. I think I got this from when I first started with soy - read directions (I think it was a kit from ebay) to fill pyrex to a certain line, etc etc etc so that's always the way I've done it and with great results. I've played with a gazillion waxes and routinely use J50, soy, and 4627 - all with great results. Why do I know better? Because in the past year, I've read and read and read post after post after post and I also became a soaper and with small soap batches, you need very precise measurements. I know that! I know weighing matters - that volume and weight are 2 different things! So I decided to weigh my wax this weekend. And it was about 6oz. So - I'm adding .5oz fo to 6oz of wax which works out to be roughly 8%. When I add .75 (which I rarely do...only just started doing with some JS fos that I couldn't get to throw well at what I then thought was 6%) it's roughly 12% and I go around preaching how I never do over 6% yadda yadda yadda. I feel like a complete and total goofus. Jen
  11. How much wax are you getting in an 8oz jj? TIA - Jen ps - I'll let you know why I ask after I get some answers.
  12. I knew you guys would understand! Do people test fos out this way at all? You would use much less wax to test the fo %s although I also know that wick, jar, etc all play into scent throw as well. Just curious... Jen
  13. and you'd think it was Christmas around here. I'm so full of glee over my one little tart I made (had some leftover wax when pouring). I'm such a dork but who better to understand than fellow candle dorks . I've been doing containers since about Jan but never made a little tart. Got my molds from BCN the other day and wheeee! This is fun! Now I just need to buy a tart burner.... Thanks for reading! Jen
  14. I've order from Angie twice and got very public about my last order. Here's what happened: I placed an order from her mid April. Got a shipping notice and nothing came. Emailed back and forth and even talked to her on the phone. Very nice lady! She said she'd put extras in my shipment. Got second shipping notice (for same order) and again - nothing came. By now we're about 2 months into the order. I emailed, I called, I emailed some more, I posted on various places I know she frequents - I tried off and on for 3 months! Nothing. I then posted on a supplier review board that I finally filed a claim with the BBB. Since then, she has done a bad customer review of me (let's remember - I'm the one that paid promptly, tried to communicate, waited 5 months for resolution) and has also lied in her responses to me on the supplier review board. What I didn't realize when I posted to the supplier review board...is that one of Angie's good supplier friends is the listmom and will of course post anything that Angie writes, but will not post my responses back to Angie (for the most part). It's been a very frustrating experience. And I'm not alone. Angie did finally refund my money. She seems to be doing a bit better right now with her customer service but it seems to be very cyclical - her computer breaks, they're struck by lightening, her husband hurts his back, her computer breaks, the post office lost all the shipments, they're struck by lightening...so on and so on and so on. So yeah - knife in the back. Just be careful. I did do the right thing by contacting the BBB so that I can try to help protect others...but I also know she is going to lie (based on what she said on the supplier review board) in her rebuttal to them so I'm not sure where it will go. Like I said - it's been a very frustrating experience. Angie does have fabulous oils so it really is a shame (to me at least) that she ruined our relationship. I've been spending thousands of dollars lately getting my business started and there are just too many wonderful supplier out there that I'd rather support. I know I have her phone number - let me dig and I'll send you a pm. Jen
  15. Here's what I do with my big ol block of comfort blend. 1. Run sturdy knife under hot water for a few seconds. 2. Wipe with paper towel quickly to remove water. 3. Cut. 4. Wrap into waxed paper for storing. It's really not too bad.... Jen
  16. This is not good...especially because of the coop that just closed (I ordered 2 lbs myself...). Please keep us posted as to what Alan has to say. Thanks - Jen
  17. <Slapping forehead> - how could I have forgotten my very favorite FDTT? This is one killer fo. I actually just soaped it (cp) last week and so far the scent is holding up very well through cure. Jen
  18. I didn't have smoking/soot issues with JS123 (I used a 44z in a reg 8oz jj) but I just couldn't get it to throw for me at all! And unlike Trish - I can get an awesome throw with Comfort Blend. I agree that it's always interesting to read other peoples experiences. Jen
  19. What about Rosemary Mint? I know SNC has one that's wonderful but I no longer order from her...I'm going to try the one in JS which seems to have gotten good reviews. Jen
  20. So what I'm hearing is....go ahead an order a sample pack! Yeah - I know - but she has soooo many I want to try I don't think I can squeeze it all into one sample pack so I'm trying to prioritize! Thanks again! Jen
